Re: The 2011 Boston Red Sox: This Space for Rent

He has the right idea. Wakefield pitching like the 40-plus guy he is. Could be another early night.

Re: The 2011 Boston Red Sox: This Space for Rent

The Red Sox are making Scott Baker look like an all star #1 guy. He is not. He's a solid #2 or 3.

Re: The 2011 Boston Red Sox: This Space for Rent

All you have to do the beat the Red Sox is get some pitcher out of your farm system to start. They have no answer.

same with the yankees. these big money teams have all these scouting reports on pitchers and what they throw and when they throw it. so you bring up some no-name kid with good to average stuff and there is no scouting report - so the hitters just have to guess, and it shows. of course its not a sustainable strategy but good for a handful of losses per season.

that said: scott baker does not count as that. that was just pathetic!

Re: The 2011 Boston Red Sox: This Space for Rent

They were so close to .500 a couple days ago. Just needed 1 win, and Lester was starting. He didn't have a great start, but they battled back to get a lead, which Bard promptly blew. Then, last night. Now 3 games under.

Thankfully the rest of the division is also treading water.

Re: The 2011 Boston Red Sox: This Space for Rent

Papelbohn is trying sooooo hard to lose this game.

Re: The 2011 Boston Red Sox: This Space for Rent

Papelbon can throw a strike when necessary. Usually. And he doesn't specialize in straightballs.

I fear the day when bard becomes the closer.

Re: The 2011 Boston Red Sox: This Space for Rent

I'll say this: I don't think Sabathia meant to do that. Now they need to make him work. Run that pitch count up, or Sabathia will make the bullpen unnecessary.

Re: The 2011 Boston Red Sox: This Space for Rent

Back to within a game of .500. Once again, Lester will take the mound. I like the matchup (v Garcia), but we'll see. Series sweeps at Yankee Stadium aren't easy.

Re: The 2011 Boston Red Sox: This Space for Rent

early in the season guys at work were pointing out the recent year whan the Yanks started out poorly and came back to win the division and WS. in the context of a long season we may be better off if the sox have to work hard all year and are in a race vs. getting complacent and then trying to turn it on for October (or is it now December?)

I have tickets for tomorrow - odds that game gets played based on the forecast?? And who is scheduled to pitch?
