The 2010 CCHA Championships 3/19-20: FSU, Miami, Michigan, and NMU

Re: The 2010 CCHA Championships 3/19-20: FSU, Miami, Michigan, and NMU

don't be greedy with it, share!

I mean that really hurt last weekend. As much as I hate UM, I still can't cheer for NMU tomorrow. I'm sure the champ game is going to be great. I just don't know how much I can tolerate.

Honestly, no knock on NMU but I don't see how it will be great. Michigan is a lot quicker than NMU and Stewart looked shaky today. IF Michigan comes out and attacks early they could lure NMU into mistakes like they did Miami.

If you are Wisco-BC-SCSU-UND you got to really be worried if you get that 3rd or 4th #1 seed and have Michigan in the first round.....

Every time I think that about NMU they prove me wrong. Same with UM. I agree Stewart looked off. If UM somehow got into the Midwest....look out region and look out FF.

They can't get into the midwest. They will be out east somewhere. Miami is locked into a 1 and can't play Michigan in the first round and Michigan can't be higher than a 4 seed. They won't get Denver, but will get one of the quad I mentioned, most likely out east in worcester.

Whew. Thanks.

Im the one saying Whew, I don't want to play Michigan again. Although I bet the boys would like another crack at them, but I would prefer to not see them until next year lol.

Ferris State better watch out. Miami is gonna come out ****ed and ready to hit hard! Michigan you got lucky that's all I gotta say... Reichard keep your head up you're still number one in my heart. Miami takes third. GUARANTEED. And you can take that to the bank!

Until next time hockey fans.... SEE YA!

Michigan got lucky? Uh, no. Michigan kicked your *** all over the ice, plain and simple.

I'm not worried at all. Michigan may be playing good hockey right now but so is UND.

Thats fine, don't be. But I warned ya lol. Michigan is the fatest team I have seen this year, and that includes UND. They were able to do things to Miami no other team had done this year, that includes UND. Not saying UND isn't playing well, they are on fire. But I would look twice at Michigan at this point in the year.

Well if they were to meet I'm sure UND will be looking at the Michigan-Miami game tape to see what they have to do to win. It'd also help to see what needs to be done if Miami and UND meet again. :)

I'm not sure if MI is the fastest team and I don't really care. Your conference really doesn't inspire fear to me and I find it quite surprising that your team got shellacked so bad tonight. Maybe worry about your team a bit more, WCHA is just fine.

Not exactly. Miami lost last Saturday to Ohio State and it was a razor edge win Sunday with the close misses OSU had in the last minute going for the overtime goal. How much more consistent Miami was during those games was irrelevant, it was OSU's scoring opportunities that was the key. Red simply reviewed the film, saw what Miami was doing wrong that gave OSU their goals and best chances and did the job of a solid veteran coach. He simply drilled his team hard all week on what he analyzed that would work against Miami. That's how the higher paid coaches earn those big bucks. :D

Just a couple of thoughts from the two games yesterday. I really think NMU didn't play that well and was fortunate to win. I thought Ferris looked quicker and the Joe Louis bounces had Stewart confused. It seemed he had a hard time finding the puck.
Michigan dominated Miami. They wanted it more and it showed. It looked like a Michigan team from years ago, deep, fast, forcing many odd man rushes.

NMU will have to come out much better today to win. NMU will have to avoid allowing Michigan to have the odd man rushes and then going on the PP as they did with Miami.

Should be a great time, I will be in section 120, row 5. Go CATS!

Playing around with the PWR Predictor, it looks like Ferris can still get in without a win today... but it all rides on Northern beating Michigan or Sacred Heart beating RIT. Obviously it'd be easier for Ferris to just beat Miami and remove all doubt.

If Michigan and Sacred Heart both win, it looks like the CCHA can get 5 teams in.

Wait, you mean your coaches look at tape of previous games to help with strategy for upcoming games? Is that legal? Can our teams' coaches do that? Do Red and Rico know? Somebody get those guys on the phone!!

Re: The 2010 CCHA Championships 3/19-20: FSU, Miami, Michigan, and NMU

I'm not sure if MI is the fastest team...

I'm not sure either because I haven't seen everyone play but there was some pretty rapid skating out of UM last night. I think their speed in transition is what got them the win. They could pack it low and slow down Miami in front of Hunwick and than BAM, they were all the way down the ice 2-1, 3-1, hell even 4-1 once, getting great chances. They committed to giving Hunwick as easy a game as they could, did it marvelously, and it didn't affect their offensive chances one iota.

The thing that surprised me most was that Miami is not a bunch of plodders out there on the ice. They've got some guys out there that can get up and down as well, yet they were thoroughly outskated by Michigan, especially in the transition. It look like someone in a blue sweater was behind guys in red and white all night. And Rico was outcoached by Red, plain and simple.

From the outside looking in, I still think Miami is going to win it all. But I did predict UM to win this game (and posted both those thoughts somewhere else) but if I am rooting for Miami I may be starting to wonder, just a little bit. They are only 3-3-1 in their last 7 games and looked extremely vulnerable against Michigan. They are playing a game today they probably never thought they'd be in and it is, for all intents, completely meaningless. Not a good mind-set to be carrying into Fort Wayne for the next game, because in that one, there aren't any do overs.

I still don't get why Alaska is so favored with the PWR. Oh well.

Defensive woes seemed to be Ferris's biggest problem. Frankly, I was amazed they came back after going up those 3 goals back-to-back-to-back. I was also impressed by the Ferris crowd, and even the band sounded good. Thrilling game, but it probably took 5 years off my life with the heart strain.

Michigan certainly looked like a tournament quality team, but what happened to Reichard? He let in one of the softest 5 hole goals I've seen in a while, he was terrible. After that game, I'm not sure how NMU will compete, especially since it is basically a U of M home game.

That played out as poorly as possible, if Michigan wins, Ferris is in deep trouble unless they beat Miami. And Miami I would think is going to be out for blood. It will be a hell of a challenge for the Dawgs.

Either way, I'm definitely glad I made the trip down. Definitely something I'm considering doing again next year even if Ferris isn't there.

Re: The 2010 CCHA Championships 3/19-20: FSU, Miami, Michigan, and NMU

For Ferris it is really simple: If Michigan wins, Ferris is done unless they beat or tie Miami this afternoon.

Miami is going to go one of two ways: either they're going to come out smoking, or they're going to lay down and mail it in. Never count on a good team mailing it in. Ever.
