The 2010 CCHA Championships 3/19-20: FSU, Miami, Michigan, and NMU

Re: The 2010 CCHA Championships 3/19-20: FSU, Miami, Michigan, and NMU

The way Ferris has been going, Sacred Heart's entire defensive corps is going to get run over by the Zamboni during the 2nd intermission.

We're relying on others to determine our fate, after we've blown our own opportunities. We get what we deserve.

Re: The 2010 CCHA Championships 3/19-20: FSU, Miami, Michigan, and NMU

I take that back, you are right Hammer. Michigan win's in knocks ferris out. Alaska is firmly in now and their will only be 4 CCHA teams. Michigan or Ferris will be the 4th. Tough break their, thought we could sneak 5 in...Thought I ran scenerios earlier that had both Ferris and Michigan in with a Ferris loss, but guess that has gone away.

Re: The 2010 CCHA Championships 3/19-20: FSU, Miami, Michigan, and NMU

Ferris needs either NMU or Sacred Heart to win tonight.

Good close game. Michigan takes it 2-1, and makes the NCAA.

Great game Northern.

it was a hell of a final. And it's one more week to the season that we haven't done in a decade.

And it's still two more weeks more than MTU did...

Re: The 2010 CCHA Championships 3/19-20: FSU, Miami, Michigan, and NMU

Couple of things from the game:

WARNING, THIS FIRST NOTE IS A RANT:

An usher for Saturday's game brought up the guards and threatened to throw the entire Ferris student section out...what was the term that got him all up in arms? The word "Numbnuts" Seriously. He threatened to toss every one of us if anyone swore the rest of the game. I wish nothing but genital warts on that man.

END RANT

Moving on, disappointed that Ferris is done, but it was still a very interesting experience. Definitely something I'd consider doing next year even if Ferris isn't there. People from all of the fanbases (at least that I ran into) were all cool, from the random Michigan fans I talked with between games and then being in the NMU student section.

Also, I was very impressed with how many people NMU brought with them. Obviously it was still a U of M home game, but there was still a very strong group of Northern fans, I was impressed.

U of M right now looks like a team that could beat absolutely anyone in the country, whoever draws them will be in trouble.

Also, I know Ferris is probably done, I'd still love to know why Alaska is more likely to be in then Ferris, considering Ferris finished 3rd to their 5th, and Ferris actually made it to the Joe. Not making excuses for Ferris falling short, they fell apart at the end of the year, but I don't see why Alaska deserves in.

Unless the committee is just afraid of the Alaska Death Bear.

I gather you are perhaps new to both college hockey and USCHO so let me warn you people will hunt down posts like this to slather criticism on anyone who doesn't like "how the tourney teams are picked." There really are some pretty simple criteria and how one finishes within the confines of their own conference really cannot be one of them, logically. Over the course of five months of play, taking into consideration everyone Alaska played, beat, and lost to, the NCAA considers them to be the better team. Most here don't think the criteria are perfect. Some think they are downright stupid. While I shouldn't speak for any other poster, I am guessing that we all like the transparency of the process. No smoke filled rules, no catering to CBS. No beauty pageants. It isn't perfect, but it is light years ahead of the way basketball and football pick their post season teams that play for "championships."

Coming from a Buckeye fan i have to say Congrats to the univeristy of Michigan on winning this tournament. You guys are more than deserving, beating 3 of the top 4 seeds along the way and totally out playing both opponents this weekend. Good Luck the rest of the way.

Also good luck to the Rest of the CCHA hope to see you in Detroit!

I am new to the site, far from new to college hockey, I've been a FSU fan since 06. But, obviously Ferris is rarely remotely close to the national tournament, so I never really paid much attention to the whole selection process until this year.

I do definitely agree that it is FAR better than the BCS, college hockey does have a legitimate champion unlike football.

Not saying that Alaska doesn't deserve to be in, and Ferris certainly dug their own grave, but I'm just a bit off on how they are higher. The conference tournaments obviously have a huge impact (Look at State dropping, NMU rising) which confuses me some more since they didn't make the Joe.

Either way, good luck to them, Northern, U of M and Miami representing the CCHA in the Big Show.

Does the fact that Alaska had a better overall winning percentage (.592- .588) make a difference? All games played are counted, not just conference games. And also the NCAA doesn't recognize the shootout wins. They are counted as ties for both teams.

Leave it to a Techhead to need a cartoon to get a point across.
Classy.

Re: The 2010 CCHA Championships 3/19-20: FSU, Miami, Michigan, and NMU

Guys- going to have to defer to others on this. But I am a little confused about Ferris as well. I am looking at the PWR and their RPI is higher than 4 teams in front of them and they win comparisons against two in front of them. May of been brought up already but how did they drop so far? I thought the PWR put a big emphasis on RPI.

They lose those comparisons by common opponent record and record vs. TUC's.
