The 114th Congress: Two More Years!

Kirkpatrick might take him down. She's smart and popular and fairly well-funded. (Full disclosure: Dr. Mrs. has an application in to Kirkpatrick's DC Senate staff if she wins.)

That way you guys can move to prescott? My kid reports Scottsdale is pretty sweet compared to yuma:)

Re: The 114th Congress: Two More Years!

A report I heard on POTUS made it sound like she was going to get through. I guess her constituents like her. There's someone for everybody.

Grayson OTOH looks dead, so the Senate race will be Murphy v Rubio.

Turnout is dog crap. Apparently Floridians have better things to do.

Oddly enough, Rubio immediately challenged Murphy to 6 debates?!?! Not usually something you do as an incumbent in a position of strength and debates aren't Little Marco's strong suit. Either the dude has brass balls or he's seeing some internals that he doesn't like.

He needs to erase the risible memories people have of him in the GOP debates. He wants as much air time as possible to push that out of people's heads.

Up to a point, sure. Calling for 6 debates isn't a sign of strength though. If you're not a good debater, and lets be honest there's been several humiliating episodes of Rubio in front of the camera in his relatively short career, having that many opportunities to screw up is a recipe for disaster. That's 6 chances for him to start repeating himself like a robot again. 6 chances for Murphy to remind him that he was bored with his job but now wants to keep it after losing the Presidential primary. 6 times he gets asked to his face why he's bowing down to a man (Trump) who belittled him constantly.

I don't see this ending well for Little Marco unless his opponent is equally tongue tied.

I think you are overestimating the voters. Marco is pretty and shiny, and his debate points are simplistic and delivered in the Sincere Style every Spielberg actor learns to use during the weepy Profound Scene in the middle of the third act. Consider that Cruz, who genuinely is an excellent debater, was destroyed in the debates, while Trump, with the IQ of a partially defrosted thin crust pizza, cleaned up. Content is nothing -- manner is everything, and somehow the masses lap up Marco's simpering sanctimony.

Except they dont which is why he got pimpslapped in the primaries. You have to look like you are a leader and he stinks of being a lackey. He is basically Otis from Superman the Movie.

I too don't get what Kep sees in a man who got his a ss kicked in his home state by a circus clown, but we'll find out soon enough. Regardless of Marco's debating skills, I haven't often heard of an incumbent truly leading a race demanding 6 debates (essentially one a week from now to the end of Oct by the time they agree on dates and places). There's a small upside (you're winning but you may win by a little more) but a huge downside (you go robotic again and people realize you're small man trying to fill big shoes).

This would be akin to Portman or Grassley loudly calling for 6 debates with the opponents that they're up on in high single digits. I'm speculating Rubio has his hands on some internals that aren't good, as in most of the undecided are Dem leaners or something like that.

It's Florida. America's wang loves stupid. See, DWS.

Re: The 114th Congress: Two More Years!

17% (or something like that) of the Government actually stopped functioning. That's not a shutdown.

I had to take PTO and I didn't get paid back. That's a good enough shutdown for me.

Well, 17% sucked $24 billion out of the economy. I'm not interested in seeing what happens when 100% disappears.

Well, let's start with my job: If Customs and Border Protection shuts down, then all international shipping has to shut down because there's no one to approve General Declarations for export and no one to inspect and release imports. So that's a few billion there...

Customs and Border Protection never shuts down during a government shutdown. Here's the 2013 list of departments, for which those tasks deemed necessary for the function of the country continue to operate.

Re: The 114th Congress: Two More Years!

I'm aware of that. Bronconick was merely stating if there was an actual 100% shutdown of the Government. I assumed that to mean everything shutting down.

If 100% of the government was shutdown, who would stop the ships from coming into the harbor? Who would stop the dockworkers from unloading the cargo?
