Re: The 112th Congress - A Congress divided shall not cry!

Is that thing in front of Boehner some sort of tear collecting device?? :)
Personal desalination plant. His tears could irrigate half the parched farmland in the drought-stricken areas of the world.

Re: The 112th Congress - A Congress divided shall not cry!

All this talk about education is a cleverly disguised attack on Bachmann.

Re: The 112th Congress - A Congress divided shall not cry!

68 mile per hour trains are not high speed.

Good stuff on the tax code though.

Nice of McCain to boo high-speed internet. He probably prefers Pony Express.

Re: The 112th Congress - A Congress divided shall not cry!

If only someone had pointed out that "bookkeeping burden" on small businesses beforehand. Oops.

Re: The 112th Congress - A Congress divided shall not cry!

I'll say it once: There is no such thing as clean coal. **face palm**

False. There IS clean coal. The liquefaction of coal and sequestration of CO2/NOx/SOx/etc. is here now. NOx/SOx removal is seeing higher and higher efficiencies and capture rates. Eventually, their capture rate will reach nearly 100%. CO2 is a different story. The energy required is substantial, however, it too is getting better.

The "slow" trains in the UK go about 80 mph.

Is that top speed or average speed?

Nice proposal to freeze spending at 2010 levels, he must not have noticed that House already voted to freeze them at 08 levels this afternoon.

Freezing spending at already-inflated levels isn't much of a solution. :p

Re: The 112th Congress - A Congress divided shall not cry!

"We should also find a bipartisan solution to strengthen Social Security for future generations."

"And free ice cream for everyone!"

I think it is though. Freeze it for long enough, and that adds up to some pretty darn sizable cuts. Not a stand alone solution obviously, but it's nothing to poo poo either.

Re: The 112th Congress - A Congress divided shall not cry!

Oh dear, Obama promises to veto any bill with earmarks. Harry Reid isn't going to like that.

Re: The 112th Congress - A Congress divided shall not cry!

So with lower corp tax rates, Health Care tort reform, and spending freezes, what is the GOP response?

I'm guessing the Fox "News" talking heads wonder where his ribbon was.

How long do you think Congress can freeze spending before someone else is elected and reverses the decision? :p

And I'd love to know how they plan on strengthening social security (or any entitlement for that matter) for future generations. Unless you dramatically increase the population of people who are working, you can't strengthen anything.

Average. I was on a "slow" train to Edinburgh from London and the train staff said they'll get up to 150km at times.

Re: The 112th Congress - A Congress divided shall not cry!

Except that Republicans already voted to ban them.

Sure they did.

I'm sure you can cite a bill #, but let's get serious...Congress will cease to function without earmarks.

Well, we'll see if Obama keeps his promise then. If he does, Congress will cease to function. Can't wait.
