The 112th Congress - A Congress divided shall not cry!

Re: The 112th Congress - A Congress divided shall not cry!

That doesn't extend to the other elected representatives. Half the state's districts are now red, the state legislature is republican, and one of the senators + the governor gained office via razor-thin margins. Hence my contention that it is in fact a purple state - very divided.

That approach would make most states purple as most states esp in 2008 had a healthy contingent of dems. And GOP Olympia Snow is far left of long time Dem Zell Miller.

The truest mesure of a states position on the national spectrum comes from the presidential election, where each state votes on the same candidate. How else can you compare apples to apples?

Hey, his speech at the 2012 GOP convention will be pretty good right?

Re: The 112th Congress - A Congress divided shall not cry!

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) explains why health care must be taken away: “You need to understand how insidious this bill is, it was written by smart people."

Now that the GOP is in charge of the House I assume bills will be written solely by dumb people.

Edit: Speaking of dumb people, that idiot Bill Frist talks health care

Washington (CNN) - A top Republican has come out against efforts by his party to repeal President Obama's health care reform bill currently underway in the House.

Former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tennessee, said at a press conference Tuesday at the Bipartisan Policy Center - an organization he chairs with former Democratic Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, among others - that the law should stand, according to The Huffington Post.

"It is not the bill that [Republicans] would have written," he said. "It is not the bill that I would have drafted. But it is the law of the land and it is the platform, the fundamental platform, upon which all future efforts to make that system better, for that patient, for that family, will be based."

He added: "[The bill] has many strong elements," Frist added later. "And those elements, whatever happens, need to be preserved, need to be cuddled, need to be snuggled, need to be promoted and need to be implemented."

Shockingly, you've managed to quote only part of what Gohmert said. His full quote:
“You need to understand how insidious this bill is,” Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) said. “It was written by smart people hoping that there would only be a few things removed,” he said, explaining why he believed the bill needed to be repealed in its entirety, as opposed to just amended to exclude unpopular provisions.

I would have substituted "crafty" for the word "smart" because it better fits the point he's trying to make, but what can you do.

As for the Frist thing, let's take a deeper look at who he looks for, shall we? He works for a company called Cressey and Co. What field do they work in?

Any guesses? Hey, did you guess health care? You'd be right!

From the company website:
With deep expertise in the healthcare reimbursement and regulatory environments, the Cressey & Company team has invested in almost every for-profit niche of healthcare.

But I'm sure Frist is totally impartial.

But dumb people still rule the House!

His ties to health care weren't an issue when he was in the Senate, but suddenly they are...gee, I wonder why.

Re: The 112th Congress - A Congress divided shall not cry!

So you don't think that's something CNN ought to have mentioned?

Why? His ties to the health industry were considered a bonus when he was the Senate Majority Leader. I'll never forget the brilliance he displayed in diagnosing Terri Schiavo, even though he'd never met her.

Why is it a detriment now?

Re: The 112th Congress - A Congress divided shall not cry!

It's not like he's popular with conservatives either though.

Well, except for one guy...

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said Wednesday that President Obama should consider Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) for his next secretary of defense.

Lieberman announced his retirement Wednesday after four terms in the Senate and McCain, one of his closest friends in politics, said he should play a major role when it comes to national security. Robert Gates, the current defense secretary, has said he wants to leave his post by the end of the year.

"You know its funny you mention it," McCain told CNN when asked about the possibility of Lieberman replacing Gates. "I really hope that the president would consider him. I hadn't thought about it but I sure hope, whatever happens, he will play a major role on national security issues."
