Seeing as how Michigan Tech is going to sweep this weekend, I thought I should post something to cheer up the badger fans still reading this thread...your former quarterback was just named MVP of the inaugural season of the UFL! congrats brooks bollinger ;)

Re: Tech at Wisconsin: Prune Juice and Broken Hips

We beat Duke this week in basketball and we're going to sweep you guys this weekend so we don't need any cheer-me-ups.

Hooray it's hockey day in Cana....err Wisconsin. Nice fluffy lake effect snow finally falling in Houghton as I sit here in the MUB waiting for noon to get here so I can get in a car and ride to Madison.

I hate the Kohl Center with passion, but with the major lack of home games in the month of November I feel this requires another road trip. It will also be good to be home in the melting pot of America. I may hate the Kohl Center and the University in Madison, but I love the state they are in.

Let the beer, cheese, and hockey filled weekend commence.

Suck it BADgers!
Tech Sweeps.
Herb Kohl weeps.

I love it when we play 9 defensemen!!!

To be honest, I don't really think of Dobson as a defenseman anymore.

Most interesting parts of this lineup:

-Nielsen on the top D pair? He must've had a banner week of practice.

-Soley moving up to the 3rd line when he's been inconsistent on the 4th so far.

-Pietila and Schooley earning second line minutes while Baker is injured.

-Brown getting a shot at forward (or did he play forward last weekend in Mankato?).

Thoughts that spring to mind:

-Genoe's been outplaying Robo thus far, so hopefully we can get Josh back on the right track this weekend with a couple decent games. I still think he can be a good goalie for us, he just needs the chance to get some confidence back. A win or even a tie would help a lot.

-How many powerplay goals will Tech allow this weekend?

Robo played really well and made some ridiculous saves at Mankato on Saturday, so I can definitely see why Russell is starting him.

Here it goes, here it goes, here it goes again! :(

Injury bug is back for Huskies
HOUGHTON - Injuries ravaged Michigan Tech's hockey lineup last season.

The Huskies didn't have their full complement of players for most of the year.

For the first few weeks this season, Tech had stayed relatively healthy. The Huskies had nearly every player available for every game they played.

But that has all changed in the past couple of weeks. And Tech will once again be without several key players heading into this weekend's series with Wisconsin.

"Bennett Royer is out. He hasn't practiced all week," Tech coach Jamie Russell said. "Milos Gordic is out, looks like a season-ending injury. We'll pursue a medical redshirt for Milos.

"Malcolm (Gwilliam) hasn't skated this week. We're hoping he'll be at practice today (Wednesday), so he's questionable for the weekend. Jordan Baker hasn't practiced this week and he's doubtful for the weekend."

The injury to Gordic marks the second consecutive year Tech has lost one of its prize freshmen recruits for the season. Michael Lickteig was lost for the season last year before playing a regular season game.

"Milos should get that year (his freshmen season) back, in terms of a medical redshirt, but what really hurts is that year of development, " Russell said. "As a freshmen coming in, he was a guy that would have been in the line-up every night.

"We saw great potential from him. We really like the offensive upside Milos has down low in the offensive zone. He's got good hands, good instincts. He shoots the puck well, learning the defensive side of the game for a freshmen, understanding a power-play role, getting up to the pace of the WCHA, it's a year of growth that he's not going to get and he's basically starting from scratch next year."

With Gordic and the others being out of the lineup for the series with the Badgers, Tech is at a distinct disadvantage. Wisconsin comes into the two-game set off a split with Michigan State and Michigan.

The Badgers beat the Spartans 7-3 Friday and lost to the Wolverines 3-2 on Saturday. The loss to Michigan was just Wisconsin's third in its last 10 games.

The Badgers started the season by winning just one of their first four games. Since then, Wisconsin has won back-to-back games twice and had a three-game unbeaten streak.

"A team with a real tough building to play in, 14, 15,000 people all dressed in red, with a real young team we've got to make sure that we have composure and that we are doing a good job of controlling momentum," Russell said of the upcoming series. "They're a team that is very systems-oriented.

"They're very disciplined in their style of play. They've got a very good 'D' corps and a number of high-end NHL draft picks who do a good job in their own end and jump well to offense. They're probably the highest-scoring Wisconsin team in recent years. They're getting good balance from their scoring attack and their goaltending has been very, very solid."

The Badgers have five players with 10 or more points so far this season. Junior defenseman Brendan Smith leads the team in scoring with five goals and 12 assists.

Smith is the only defenseman among the top five scorers. Forward Derek Stepan is second on the scoring list with five goals and 10 helpers.

Stepan is followed by Blake Geoffrion (9-3-12), Michael Davies (4-7-11) and Craig Smith (2-8-10). The Badgers have scored 52 goals so far this season while allowing just 30.

Goaltenders Brett Bennett and Scott Gudmandson have shared time between the pipes for Wisconsin. Bennett is 5-3-0 with a 2.13 goals-against average while Gudmandson is 3-2-1 with a 1.82 GAA.

Both games of the series will begin at 8:07, tonight and Saturday.

Re: Tech at Wisconsin: Prune Juice and Broken Hips

I'm starting to wonder about Bangen's competence myself. A freak year like last season is understandable, but to have another round of it this year would be beyond ridiculous. Isn't his conditioning program supposed to be preventing these situations as much as possible? It's like our guys get sneezed on and they're questionable for next weekend, out for weeks, or done for the year.

And yes, I do know that his conditioning schedule helped them win that 1st round playoff series at CC three years ago. However, the same terrible luck they had on the injury front last year can't possibly repeat itself - I hope? :(

At this point, the gentlemen behind the bench aren't the problem. It's the inconsistencies in the lineup that are going to hurt the team again if they can't get healthy and stay there.

Yeah, right. ;) Surely you're following the exploits of the 2009-2010 rodents. :D I heard the US Census Bureau was going to re-do the rodentsota census count because of the sudden drop in the state's population.

I also heard there are many parts of the Mississippi River that are near crest stage due to all the bodies floating in it.

We Wisconsinites don't off ourselves, we just soak ourselves in thinner when things get bad.
