Russell, when do they announce it? And I would say that the COY award is between Gosek and Carriere and the POY is between Whitelaw, Nutkevitch, and Klin? I would say Whitelaw has it in the bag but strangers things have happened. Who do you envision getting the ROY?

Beats me.

How could Nutkevitch or Klin win it when they weren't even on the First Team?

I say it's between Whitelaw and Ross. I see the odds as 50/50 between them.

Re: Sunyac 2011-2012 thoughts comments....

Nutkevitch was tied for the conference lead in points doesn't that account for something??

Scratch that... James Cody is the POY and Bob Emery is the COY discuss amongst yourselves. SUNYAC dropped the ball again. Whitelaw was hands down the best player in the league and especially over the last month. No knock on Cody as he has been a great player in this league his whole career, but were the numbers really there compared to the others in the running? There was more to B'port this year too than Cody, so he wasn't the main reason why they did as well as they did.

Cody? Wow. I didn't think he would be the one. I wonder if Whitelaw and Ross split the votes.

However, still a deserving choice. Cody was great this year.

Yeah I'm not much of a SUNYAC buff but I saw Whitelaw play in both his games against Buffalo State and he looked dam impressive. Especially the game in Oswego where he scored a hat trick (albeit one of those being an empty netter).

Who has the votes for these honors?

You mean the voting breakdown? You'll never get those. The coaches vote (only conference play is supposed to be considered), and the SUNYAC office tabulates them. No one other than the office knows who voted for whom, and I've never seen them release any totals ever.

It's the same way I administer the All-Rookie Team, Best Defensive Defenseman, and Best Defensive Forward for the coaches. I will release those in my column next week.

I'm sure Cody is a great player, but I don't get how a player wins on a team that didn't make the playoffs and finished in the bottom 3rd of the league.

Cody did score the equalizer and got an assist in Brockport's victory over Elmira, and scored Brockport's last goal against Oswego on 1/28/12, and scored Brockport's last goal against Plattsburgh on 2/10/12, scored one goal and 2 assists in Brockport's win over Buffalo State as well as scoring a goal against Neumann.

Brockport might not have made the playoffs, but IMO, that makes his success against the ranked teams all that much more impressive and his performance did lead to a few impressive wins.

I know what point you are trying to make here, but the SUNYAC POY should only be considered with SUNYAC results.

Just a quick recap here
Vs. Top 4 SUNYAC Teams
Klin 4-1-5
Ross 2-4-6
Whitelaw 6-5-11
Cody 6-5-11

Oswego can beat Plattsburgh with out Whitelaw, Brockport doesn't even come close. I know Wren played well that night, but if it wasn't for Cody Brockport doesn't get their first win over Plattsburgh since January 21, 1984. And at the same time, Cody is on a team with little support, and still manages to put up points against "the best" teams.

Nothing wrong with your post, but it could be argued that EVERY game Brockport played was a "SUNYAC" result, IMO, positive performance by a SUNYAC player against non-SUNYAC teams is all the more reason for someone to be the SUNYAC POY.

Coaches are only supposed to consider conference play. Thus, your point is never considered by the voters.

But nothing beats top of mind awareness. I'll agree that some coaches do the homework, but I'm thinking most (or many) just vote off the "top of their mind".
