Wait a minute. You recently talked about what a good director Mike Nichols is and that got me to thinking. How 'bout "Carnal Knowledge?" A film that left me stoney cold, btw, but who's counting? Try this:

"And so the tedious quest went on. Sergeant Brennan wore out his shoes and his patience going from police station to police station, checking photos until his eyes were blurry, for policework is not all glamor and excitement and glory. There are days and days of routine, of tedious probing, of tireless searching - fruitless days - days when nothing goes right, when it seems as if no one could think his way through the maze of baffling trails the criminal leaves. But the answer to that is persistence and the hope that sooner or later something will turn up, some tiny lead that can grow into a warm trail and point to the cracking of a case."

This is from a lassic film noir-He Walked By Night. Jack Webb of Dragnet fame had a supporting role and Richard Basehart was one of the leads (Ishmael).

Actor 2: "Well they're red, bloodshot."
Actor 1: "You ought to see 'em from my side"

Oh, I know this one! But I'll let it sit for a while to see if someone else can get it.

Lee Marvin in his oscar winning turn in "Cat Ballou." The scene in front of the bar is classic: "I smell a water hole." "I'll drink to THAT."

Try this:

"Excuse me, you're not by any chance related to the Boston Hitlers?"

I have an idea where this might have come from-was the movie directed by Elaine May? Or am I way off here? I am thinking about a little known but greatly appreciated movie of the early 70's. Not sure but think that Walter Matthau may have spoke this line.

Now if only I could remember the name of the movie:o. That is the problem for me-as I age i can recall specific details of things like movies-some incredibly minutial-but not the name of the darn thing. Will see if Jenny has any idea later.

Aw, you were so close: "A New Leaf" with Walter Matthau and Elaine May (she directed). Okay here's one from a very recent block buster.

"Any problem on Earth can be solved with the careful application of high explosives. The trick is not to be around when they go off."

As Good As It Gets(Helen Hunt line)

A rather obscure line fro a fine film-

"Sometimes I wish I had a pill to make people disappear."

I am just trying to get even for that one-this one is from a movie that has Paul Newman in it. That should give it away.:)

Henry V-spoken by a great actor Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid in Harry Potter movies)-this was on here yesterday.

"When the Germans come I am fanatically pro-German and when the Americans come I am fanatically pro-American" (I threw in this easy one for a change of pace)

"Catch 22":

"The 4 horse! Nobody bets the 4 horse,. . . . The 4 horse is a joke. They let little kiddies on the 4 horse to have their picture taken."

Let It Ride (a truly funny film-Robbie Coltrane from the movie quoted a few posts before plays a great litle role and David Johansen is hilarious) -Sometimes you can be walking around lucky and not know it.

"We use the guillotine in this country. I have always imagined that the blade, coming down, causes no more than a slight tickling sensation on the back of the neck. It is only a guess, of course. I hope none of you ever finds out for certain."

Re: Stump the USCHO Movie Buff(Part III)

I would give a hint but this one is just from such a popular movie that has been on cable numerous times. It has been remade with a different title-and the remake did not hold a candle to the original.

Re: Stump the USCHO Movie Buff(Part III)

OK hint 2-plot revolves around 4 men who steal $250,000 during the 1940's.
