Stump the USCHO Movie Buff(Part III)

Re: Stump the USCHO Movie Buff(Part III)

"Yes. School is optional. However, should you not attend, you will not be eligible to play."

Mighty Ducks 2 - by Coach McKay :p

"And it's a happy ending: Wayward husband comes to his senses, returns to his wife, with whom he has established a long and sustaining love. Heartless young woman left alone in her arctic desolation. Music up with a swell; final commercial. And here are a few scenes from next week's show."

Network(A really good flick)

" Our business is the future. No man can do it on his own, of course. You don't pull it out of your hat like a magician's rabbit. You - well, you build on what hundreds of others have learned before you"

(this is going to be a tough one-but in a way related to my last movie quote in that it deals with a similar subject)

Based only on your clue I'll guess "Tarantula," another one of those "radiation made 'em bigger and meaner" flicks. I saw it as a kid and even then it impressed me as 3rd rate. I'm trying to remember, was Leo G. Carroll in it?

You are incredible. Yes Leo G was the scientist in that one-I was petrified when I saw it as a kid. Seeing it this past year on TCM the special effects were laughable. But back in the early 50's I could not sleep after seeing this one. Leo G. Carroll, perhaps known best in the US for his role in the Man From UNCLE TV series or his role as Cosmo Topper in the TV series really starred in a boat load of movies from A Christmas Carol to North By Northwest. Sorry for posting such a lesser known film as Tarantula but you got it very quickly-your turn!

I may be kidding myself, but I don't recall any of those 50's flicks scaring me, they were just so amateurish. The one that DID scare the pizz out of me was War of the Worlds, and it's special effects were several orders of magnitude better than anything around at that time. Do you remember "Cult of the Cobra," starring Faith Domergue? What a clunker.
Anyway, here's a quote:

"Walter, can we see her naked before you kill her?"

edit: Leo G. Caroll was one of the great character actors, with many wonderful performances. He played the murderous Dr. Murchison in Hitchcock's "Spellbound," and was the befuddled store keeper Felix Ducotel in "We're No Angels." And completely believable in both.

OP: I know I saw this one-has a playboy playmate in it and one of the guys from Animal House(Flounder I think) but no name is coming to me. Seems to me has to be a late 70's or early 80's movie. This one I don't think I will get.:(

In the 50's the movies that petrified me were the older classics-I can still hear Renfield laugh in Dracula. And of course frankenstein and the Mummy had me sahking every time I saw Karloff.
As far as Leo G. He played Cosmo Topper along side Anne Jeffreys and Robert Stering on the TV show Topper where he worked for a bank-extra credit if you can name the bank president? (BTW Topper's wife was of course Henrietta;) )

We're grading on a curve here and you're certainly close enough: National Lampoon's Class Reunion. A totally forgettable effort (particularly when compared to Animal House, etc) except for one scene which has stayed with me despite the fact I've only seen it once. The reunion in question is being held in the high school cafeteria. And there's one tracking shot where the camera reveals a pantry area with giant #10 cans on a rack. The cans have generic black/white labels that read: chit, creamed chit, chopped chit. The usage would have a lady on the line yelling out for someone to "open up a can of that creamed chit and get it out here." Just struck me as funny, and what most high school kids suspect is going on in the kitchen.

Now the bank president in the Topper series was played I believe by veteran character actor and pompous blowhard Thurston Hall.

I have a booklet published in '67 called "Who is That?" that lists character actors (with photos, of course) based on the kind of person they customarily played. Hall is listed first in a category called "windbags, blow hards, know it alls and con artists." It is an absolutely invaluable resource in trying to put names to those famous faces. Ironically, on the cover is a picture of the late Kathleen Freeman, who played the maid in the Topper series and had a wonderful, very long career in front of the camera.

Your turn.

And the character played by Hall in Topper was Mr. Schuyler. We are always looking for Kathleen Freeman in small but memorable roles-she must have been in 200 of them. Thanks for the title of the movie-knew that I saw it but would have never come up with the name. Was the playmate in that movie Misty Rowe? I will post a new quote in a few minutes.

OK here's a relatively easy one-

"An Englishman never jokes about a wager"

"Around the World in 80 Days" extra credit for Mike Todd's real name.

As I'm sitting here waiting for our regional game to begin, Comedy Central is showing "Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult. Kathleen Freeman plays Fred Ward's mom. At one point Leslie Nielson asks: "what happened to the old bag, did she take one in the face?"

She played the nun in Blues Brothers (memorable) and seemed like she was in just about every movie Jerry Lewis ever made.

Yeah, Misty Rowe was in class reunion.

Give me a moment to come up with one.

Here we go:

[Pointing to man on phone] "That's his boss, he's been trying for an hour to get his expense account boosted."
"The way this guy holds onto a dollar you'd think they weren't printing them any more."

Avrom was Mike Todd's first name-I don't recall his last name but Jenny says it was something close to Goldberg. Leave it to her to know every one of Elizabeth Taylor's husbands:) Another innovator who died way too early. And the husband Taylor converted to Judaism for.

My favorite Kathleen Freeman role was a brief appearance in Support Your Local Sheriff.

Too easy-A great film noir thriller with Edmund O'Brien-D.O.A.
remake of it was not nearly as good as the original.

Re: Stump the USCHO Movie Buff(Part III)

Try this-Hint: It is on cable today on TCM

"Hooligans - they're just like left-handed pitchers, all have a screw loose somewhere."

"The Asphalt Jungle?"

Here's a quote:

"You know, when you came in... I thought I was hallucinating again."
"I'm sorry."
"Oh, no, I'll take a hallucination like that, anytime."

Still with Kathleen Freeman: I believe she made her debut in The Naked City, unbilled, playing "stout girl on elevated train."

Goldbogan. You know, I've seen Support Your Local Sheriff, but have no memory of Freeman in it. Hmmmm. I'll have to check that out.

Freeman comes along on the street walking by when Prudence has climbed the tree and is covered with mud-and of course James Garner sees her up there and strikes up a conversation with Freeman. Great comedy western and far superior to the sequel Support Your Local Gunfighter.
BTW-Asphalt Jungle is correct-Just watched it and wasnt sure I got the quote exactly right.

Imagine the fun of sitting down for a couple of days shooting the breeze with her and all the inside stuff she'd have. An amazing career and a very talented gal.
