St. Norbert 2013-14 - a new mountain to climb on the way back to the top

Re: St. Norbert 2013-14 - a new mountain to climb on the way back to the top

Wow did EC lay an egg. I guess we will see if SNC is really back Weds. night. 2 assists to the refs, 3 to the Blugolds D. I hope the Knights play Jacobson again, and the real Blugolds show up. Good win tonight SNC!

See if SNC is back? Out-shooting the eventual national champion 2 to 1 in a quarterfinal loss is what you'd consider "taking a year off?" If that's the case, what do you call what Eau Claire was doing for the 30 seasons before last year?

I'd imagine you'll see Jacobson again Wednesday night, but so far it appears there is no real drop off with Kujava between the pipes. My guess is Kujava goes tonight against Stout, but I have no idea...

The "taking a year off" was referring to a previous post. As far as last night goes the Green Knights dominated. I don't think the Blugolds played close to what they're capable of and hope they rebound today and give the Knights a better game next Weds.

What was the factor in EC not playing to the capability?

From the games I have been able to see that was a shell of the team that normally shows up. They never got going last night for whatever reason. I think all of our favorite teams have at least one game like I think the Blugolds had last night. The good news for the Blugolds is that they don't have to wait too long to give it another shot against a very good Green Knights team.

Blugold…The combined record of Eau Claire's first four opponents this season is 5-22-3. The record of their 5th opponent is 7-0-0 (more wins than all five teams they've faced combined). You squeaked by an 0-7-1 Bethel team by a 2-1 score. Maybe the effort against SNC had more to do with the team they were playing than how good you think your squad is this year. Could it be your boys are not a strong as you think they are?

Prediction for tonight…Eau Claire/Concordia skate in a 1-goal game (toss a coin for the winner). Marian keeps it close and low scoring against SP.

Right on one of my two predictions. Looks like EC got a convincing result finally. The shots on goal were closer than one might think in a 7-0 game. Looks like EC has found a new tender.

Why isn't Pustin playing? That could make a big difference.

This year's Eau Claire team is good but lost a lot including an All-American caliber goalie. They lost on Friday to a better hockey team on the road. It's really no more complicated than that. You don't get outshot 2 to 1 and claim it was anything else. I could certainly make more comments than you did about last year's NCAA Quarterfinal game based on who carried play vs who won but I choose not to be disingenuous.

Re: St. Norbert 2013-14 - a new mountain to climb on the way back to the top

I actually followed the team to both games this weekend. SN is truly the powerhouse for Wisconsin this year. Though let me say this, the loss against SN was truly more tender related than the thrashing of Concordia. That SO was obvious in the making, thanks to the EC defense and the much weaker Concordia offense. Most shots were weak and from the outside, don’t let the box score fool you. 2 different games, 2 different opponents.
Viewed a few practices, and EC has a good stable of young tenders. Any of these 3 are able to take on most opponents they will play. The truth will come out when they play SN again Wednesday, the 3 against the Pointers and maybe even the surprising Augies. That’s when the true number 1 will earn his stripes.
As for EC as a team, they will have a few tough games ahead of them and will need to bring their A game when it counts.

How many assists for Marcotte and Boche tonight? Should have been a few with SNC scoring 8 times!

Re: St. Norbert 2013-14 - a new mountain to climb on the way back to the top

With nothing much else going on I tuned in for this one. I would say, if anything, the refs let EC get away with a lot. SNC is just deeper, four lines that keep rolling and only seem to pick up speed as the game progresses. Through 9 games they have 10 goals in period one; 17 in period two; and, 18 in period three. This is a deep, well conditioned group of skaters. There was talk of where the offense would come from to replace Keefer and Stroh's numbers, but through nine games this year's team has 45 goals while last year's squad had 36 through nine games. The defense is on the same pace as last season (14 GAA through nine this year; 13 last year).

Re: St. Norbert 2013-14 - a new mountain to climb on the way back to the top

Not a fun ride back to De Pere tonight, but well worth the effort after seeing the Knights demolish Eau Claire 8 -- 2.
Really like what I am seeing from this squad with their ability to get the puck down low.
Once in position they are taking advanatge of their opportunites.
Really cleaned up around the Blugold net tonight..
The Hill, Bradshaw, Cooper line was outstanding with 10 points!!

Re: St. Norbert 2013-14 - a new mountain to climb on the way back to the top

Sir nubs, the Answer to your question is 0. Got what I thought was a good match up with Jacobson in goal on our ice and holly F was I underwhelmed. I think it's been ten years at least since the Blugolds have given up 8 goals at home.... Very disappointing. However, we don't have fishman as a fan :-D. So I still saw some things to be excited for, plus heard a rumor about two x-mas presents that could shake things up. Hope the boys figure it out, because from how they beat tha shank out of one of the up and coming teams in tha SNCHA (7-0 Concordia on their ice) compared to what I saw tonight.... A lot of work to do in the West's EC camp. Happy Thanksgiving Everyone (btw the Blugolds must have started early, such givers)!!!

Re: St. Norbert 2013-14 - a new mountain to climb on the way back to the top

Impressive road win against a good team. I wondered if Eau Claire wouldn't give the kid a shot in net who shut out Concordia on Saturday. I realize there is a difference between SNC and Concordia, but I wasn't overly impressed with the kid who started in DePere on Friday and when they turned around and started him again last night it worked out even worse.

Re: St. Norbert 2013-14 - a new mountain to climb on the way back to the top

Can't say I'm surprised by the Saturday night result. I knew they'd switch up the line up and I just had a bad feeling Scholastica would approach it differently than SNC would.

Stat sheet says CSS's top line did not start. Nor did their 1st line center Marcoux even suit up. I was not at the game, just listened to the second half, but the Saints were not rolling the Nowakowskis nearly as often as they do every other game. Plus SNC outshot CSS by a lot. I think goaltending and turnovers had more to do with the outcome of the game than personnel. Not a lot of difference in quality on CSS after the first line, and neither goaltender has really played great this season.

It sounded like the Saints played with a hop in their step unlike last weekend, where they looked out hustled and out of sorts, which is how it sounded the Knights played on Sat.

33-1.

Blowing a three goal lead? In the third period? At home? To Lawrence? Somebody didn't eat their Wheaties this morning... :(
