St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

Re: St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

This was the worst officiated game I have ever seen....this coming from a PC fan.

Re: St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

28 penalties called in the game and 21 power plays between both squads. A PC player checked a player who was playing the puck and was called for interference.

I could go on and on with calls on both teams...

26 penalties in the Quinnipiac-BU game at Agganis with 19 power plays combined. Hockey East officiating enough said.

Is Sweetman missed that much??
He is arguably our best defensive defenseman. He is also clearly our best body checker. He has a history of crushing hip checks that keep forwards off their game coming into the attacking zone. Still Joe, our "D" was supposed to be out depth.

Worse than Friday's? EGad!
Much worse.

I saw on the Quinnipiac thread them blaming Hockey East officials for a lot of penalty calls in their games. It's not just Hockey East (although I was told PC got the benefit of a several non calls tonight by those who watched.) But we've experienced the same thing with our own ECAC officials.....our home wins against Merrimack and UNH there were a lot of penalties called as well. Phantom interference calls on players being checked who had the puck. The officials are wrecking the game so far this year. And, teams that have good kills and strong PP's (that's not us) are really benefiting.

In other news that had to be one of the worst weekends of hockey SLU has played in years. We have a great goalie........(based on last two year's stats) who many feel will go down as the best goalie in SLU history and he gives up 11 goals in two games and gets pulled in both?? We have senior defense players letting guys skate by them like they are scarlet colored cones placed on the ice for a skating drill. I don't know what ails us...........but if the coaches don't get this turned around quick we will be 3-5 heading into the ECAC schedule and in a poor position for the pairwise because we will have a lot of out of conference losses and likely be in the same position as last year where we had to win the ECAC tournament to get into the NCAA's. I suppose it's a bit early to be talking about that but games in the beginning of a season count no different than those in the end and next weekend we desperately need at least a split. Come on Saints........let's get it together. Losing is one thing. Lack of effort is another. Playing like zombies is not very Saint Lawrence like.

Yea the checking penalty for interference is getting called too much...PC got called for it on a play tonight.

I think SLU defense looked slow and they might see some teams just chipping the puck in and creating foot races all year.

I have been in the Mediterranean Sea on a 2 week cruise visiting and eating my way around Italy, Spain, Portugal, France and Gibraltar(UK). I come back and with less than one week to go before RPI and Union kick off the ECAC campaign and I find only 22 contestants. Come on people. You have until Friday at 7PM to get your picks in or amend your previous picks. If doing an amendment just give me a new post with your revised picks and state that they are revised.

You had us worried, buddy. Glad to see it was just a cruise.

Well we dropped all the way down to 18th. It always amuses me that teams like Yale and Harvard who haven't played a game yet are ranked and ahead of us and many other teams.
Yes our competition was tough this weekend.............but, after taking three points I can't believe Clarkson didn't move into the top 20 and that we didn't disappear. If we go 0-2 at home against Wisconsin and Minnesota we likely will.

Sadly, that result wouldn't surprise me. Minnesota is a quality team, as you would expect. Wisconsin played BC very tough earlier this year.

I also wouldn't be entirely surprised if we sweep. We're still a quality team, just gotta put the 60 minute effort in. And score on the power play. And stay out of the box. And... Sigh.

This has to be one of the biggest hockey weekends in the north country for some time. When's the last time Minny played in NY state ? Ever ? What's the atmosphere like up there ? And GL north country !

They were in the RPI Holiday tourney in 62-63. I don't know if they played anyone else in NY since then.

If it counts, they won the NCAA tourney in Buffalo in 2003.

To the best of the collected knowledge on the CCT roundtable, Minnesota has never been to the North Country. Wisconsin has made 2 trips to Potsdam, both for the NCAAs (1-2-1). We're not sure about Canton.

I can't remember.............I could go to the SLU Hockey page on Facebook and ask Wally Johnson. I know I saw two games where North Dakota came to Appleton in 2001 and I know we went out to Wisconsin the year before that, but, not sure at all about Minny coming this way. No recollection of that.

Pretty sure the Gophers have never come to Appleton. Although the Saints did play them in the semis in Lake Placid in '88, so I guess that technically counts as the North Country. That was a nice outcome -- thank you Pete Lappin!! Wisconsin was in Appleton in '88 as well for the quarterfinals and I believe they came again in either '89 or '90 during the regular season. Should be a good weekend, wish I was making the trek north.

Here is the official word from our former Sports Information Director:
Wally Johnson This will be the first visit ever for Minnesota. Wisconsin was here for the 88 and 89 NCAA's, but will be making its first ever regular season appearance
