St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

Re: St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

I agree with a lot of this. My counter-point would be 1. As you said, PSU did what we knew they would try to... Get shots, get chances. Sure, I'd like to see it neutralized a bit, but not many teams have done that historically.

2. A look around the nation shows penalties getting called in droves in most games. Games at HE rinks tonight AVERAGED 18 penalties. That isn't PIM. I read that leagues have instructed officials to do another crack down on anything and everything to try speeding up the play on the ice. Don't know if it's true, but it wouldn't surprise me.

2a. That doesn't mean excuse some of the careless penalties some of the guys took tonight. We're fortunate that the PK seems to be doing pretty well so far, they've had a decent amount of work this season ;)

On to UNH and Merrimack.

And.............if you didn't see my post on Facebook........we lost yet another prized recruit. Bailey Conger "bailed" and is now picking RPI (of all places.) Morris may be a great coach......but he either has NO INTEREST in maintaining any of Carvel's recruits or wants to build his own team. If so, he is doing it at peril to the program as you just can't keep filling holes when most of the best recruits get taken 1,2,3 years out.

Anyone know if we came out of this weekend with any major injuries ? besides coaches bump on head----

Congrats to Coach Morris and Saints for the 1st W of the season vs a tough Penn St. squad.

I second this! ... I was very impressed with Penn State this weekend personally. At the beginning of the week I was hoping (and somewhat expecting) to win both, but after seeing Penn State play I quickly realized a split was a good result. Here's hoping we can continue to build off of the win Friday night and come out strong at home next weekend against UNH and Merrimack.

Until they sign the NLI, they are fair game. If commitments mattered, nobody would or could have bailed.

If MM makes it to the NCAA's watch the recruits beat a path to Canton. MM knows how to teach players to play in the NHL. That is a selling point - even if it is Canton. :)

I don't doubt for a minute Morris ability to teach players to play in the NHL. What I question is "If" that is so...........why did so many bail? He obviously has credibility and history to back up his coaching ability.......only guy with 300 wins in AHL/NCAA, etc. Got plenty of players from Manchester to the Kings, etc. Some good recruits did stick but with his resume one would have thought more would have stayed committed particularly those who didn't follow Carvy to UMass.

Re: St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

They left because they are kids who had built relationships with a coach. U mass is also an easy sell with league and facilities

Deschamps will be key to recruiting and he is very good and very likeable, with red bull last year and relates very well to kids and families

MM will be just fine as will SL

Agents/Family Advisors. They're the ones running the recruiting game now.

St. Lawrence picks up a goalie recruit from the New Jersey Titans in the NAHL.

'98 goalie Brandon Bussi 6'3 195lbs, Long Island product. In 4 games this year has a 1-2 record with a 2.43 GAA and .919 sv percentage.

A kid's commitment to a school is rooted in the connection to the coach. Sure the campus and curriculum matter, but the kid commits when they buy in to what the coach has to say. This is not a situation unique to SLU - Nate Leaman took his share of Union commits when he departed for Providence. It's just how thimgs happen when a coach moves on. Morris is a great guy and a hell of coach - the Larries should unite around him and his staff.

Wow, great weekend for the Saints. I was able to attend the Saturday game and thought the team looked great with their passing and setting up scoring opportunities on the PP. Next two weeks should be fun with some tough big east and 10 matchups.

Thinking of trying to see the Providence game. That will likely be my first chance to see this years edition.
The competition will be tough next weekend. I'm thinking a split next weekend will be what I would call a good weekend being on the road against two Hockey East teams.

A nice weekend for the Saints. To Merrimacks credit they fought hard all the way to the end. Thought UNH looked really weak (as compared to Merrimack) although UNH did bounce back against Clarkson. If anyone get's any injury update on Sweetman it would appreciated. Hope that hand injury is not serious and nothing broken.

Been told he is wearing a soft cast. Have no other details.

Well, that was embarrassing ... Let's hope for a much better effort tomorrow night because tonight they were as flat as a pancake, yikes!

Luckily I had a business function in NYC tonight and couldn't watch or listen to the game. Was debating making the drive to Providence but by the sounds of the way they played the last thing I want to do is drive up to Providence to see a team get out hustled and out played.

I'll confess.............I Love SLU hockey......but, my heart is not in it like it was before. This whole coach change debacle has taken the bloom off the rose for me and I'm still very ambivalent about the whole thing. I still root like hell but I guess I'll be rooting more from home as opposed to making treks to watch some of the away games. Been a few years since I made the trip to Canton and stayed at the Hotel Bentley in Tupper Lake. That drive now seems like a long way to go.

In all my years of watching college hockey (less so in the pro's).........I'll never understand how with only two games a week............you can come out and lay an egg like that. Losing is one thing........getting outworked and outplayed is quite another. Was UMass Lowell just that much better than us???

#12 is such a fleeting number. It was NOT defended well at all.
