St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

A friend who is a season ticket holder at CCT commented that he had heard rumblings they are involved next season. I've also heard BU in 2018.

I'll give my thoughts in more detail tomorrow or when I get back to the US later this week, but what a fantastic event, even without coming away with a true win. Absolutely a first class event, wonderful people locally, a lot of history and things to see/do. And of course lots of fresh Guinness too.

Joe, if CCT is indeed in next year and you're able to swing the trip, I can't recommend it enough. Heck, I can't rule out possibly wanting to come even if SLU isn't involved. Belfast is a true diamond in the rough.

My great grandfather on my Mother's side was born in County Donegal. It's on my bucket list to get over there and see the ancestral manse and such.

How much was tbe airfare?

We flew from Ottawa, $430 round trip. 2 stops each way (Detroit-Amsterdam-Belfast on the way over, Dublin-Amsterdam-Toronto on the way back).

As a random Northeastern fan who made the trip last year, I'll echo all of the positive sentiments expressed above--and then some. The arena is first class, the fans are knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and one of the street-level retail businesses at SSE Arena is Rockies, a watering hole owned by Canadian expats that is nothing less than The Mother of All Hockey Bars. And the Titanic Museum, right next door to the arena, is a "must see." Finally, wander down to the City Hall area on Sunday morning and grab a sightseeing bus that will take you on a tour of the Antrim Coast. Beyond the dramatic scenery, the tour also includes a stop at the Bushmills Distillery.

Additional advice for anyone contemplating a trip next year is to plan some days either before or after the tournament to take in Dublin and whatever other parts of the Irish Republic you have time for. It will be time well-spent.

Not sure where you live, but Aer Lingus flies direct to Ireland out of Hartford, CT these days. Pretty much the same prices as JFK with a fraction of the parking and logistical costs and headaches. Been to the south twice and would love to get to the north.

Well Joe.........today for me was a bit of an embarrassment to be an SLU fan. Instead of focusing on hockey....it appeared to me they focused on trying to injure the other team. Certainly a lot of emotion between the coaching situation, players who committed to SLU and wound up on UMass. There were a lot of reasons for contempt and bad blood. I'm sure all that backdrop made for more than the normal animus between opponents. But, instead of taking it out by routing/beating the other team.... we took it out physically. The only gesture of sportsmanship I observed (they didn't show the whole handshake line) was Dahl tapping Wischow on the pads after he made a save.

And.....what does it say about our forwards that Morris is putting defensemen out first to take penalty shots in the shoot out????

I was surprised these guys got up.

It was a pretty hard hit. Definitely penalty worthy and definitely deserving of the 5 minute major. I'm a little surprised there are those trying to claim that it wasn't a major. I thought that call was a pretty obvious one, even if it was against my team.

Agree, no question a major penalty.

Thanks for the video of the hit by the way. It clears things up a bit for those that were going by what they saw either live or without the video replay.

To Dublin only I assume?

Shannon arrival avoids similar NYC type hassles at the Dublin end
I can be in my car and on my way in less than 45 minutes. Admittedly w/ only a carry on and EU arrival portal

Boston is also an attractive departure alternative to Philadelphia and NYC

We spent a few hours with Jim Graves, the owner, Friday night. He took us around and showed us everything in the bar. You're absolutely correct, it probably is the mother of all sports bars, the sheer amount of memorabilia is astounding.

Titanic museum, as you said, also a must do. Was very impressed with it.

We also toured the Crum Gaol, which was a very neat and interesting tour of the jail that operated from 1846-1996. The stories those walls could tell, goodness.

We came down to Dublin today, will fly back Tuesday am. Just a fabulous trip and experience.

LT, I live in Tampa now, but went to the North Country where I grew up to visit folks and leave for here with my Dad. We refuse to use Montreal, due to past customs Charlie foxtrot and the fact that there are always reports of car thefts while people are gone. Ottawa was a breeze to get out of, having a couple stops isn't ideal, but my Dad likes the chance to stretch and walk around a bit.

Looks like Dublin only, I have flown into Dublin twice and the and the flight to car experience was no hassle. Dublin airport is quite small and easy to get around, i planned both trips to have my Dublin portion to be the last two days, basically park the car at the hotel, sightsee by transit in the city and then return the car for the flight home. The extra car insurance is money well spent in Ireland no matter the cost. Also get an automatic and keep the car as small as possible, some of the roads are one inch clearance side to side, quite harrowing at times but doable for a careful driver.

Kid #21 spent night in penalty box vs Q Friday. Hits like that should get him suspended...no need.

6 minutes in the penalty box is hardly spending the night in the penalty box (and yes I know you're being sarcastic), so Friday night wasn't really the issue for him at all. His play for the weekend wasn't any more out of control than any of the other players for either team who were in those two intense games. The only exception being that hit that he was assessed a major penalty for on Saturday night. That was a bad one and he was rightly given a major for it.

This. And as I mentioned on the FB page, in talking with Hicks Friday night after the game, he admitted that the tripping penalty given to Gluchowski was a poor call, and he made sure to own the mistake with Nolan at the start of the next period.

Any knowledgeable fan, who understands the rules regarding these types of hits has changed (for the better), will absolutely admit this is worthy of a major. I'm glad that both players seemed to be OK afterwards, as that is amongst the more vicious hits I've seen in person.

ECAC suspends Gluchowski for one game for the hit on the UMass player.

That's unfortunate, especially considering the next one is against a team that we expect to be right on our tails in the ECAC standings for most of the season. Hopefully we come out strong and ready to play regardless of who is out there. Friday nights game is a big one.

It is unfortunate, but I'm absolutely not surprised, truthfully I would have been shocked if they let it slide. Those are the types of hits they want to get rid of, from the top of the game down. The good news is we have some capable defenders that can plug in. It's a net loss, for sure, but I'd be more concerned if we lost a forward.

Tough hit! Not sure suspension could be avoided...kid has talent fun to watch...hope he learns to keep out of box. Not sure the Clinton hit should have match suspension. Looks like hands and shoulder down on replay
