St. Lawrence University 2013-2014: Carey, Carey, carry us to Placid ... And beyond?

Re: St. Lawrence University 2013-2014: Carey, Carey, carry us to Placid ... And beyon

That was a nice goal, but a result of a failure on the back check. We lacked intensity again. Good to have a month off to get back to fundamentals. I'm optimistic we'll come out strong in the second half.

Fair enough.. McCarthy's goal never should have happened so I feel your frustration... I wish you guys well (just not against UVM).... BTW do you stream your games as well?

Vermont is actually on a roll these days. Turk's goal was a thing of beauty.

True, but that game was not about UVM being on a roll. That was . . . very discouraging.

Yes, there's a link at the SLU Athletics page. It's good quality too.

Agreed......tough to watch that one. Where's the intensity and passion???

I'm not quite sure what to make of tonight either. I have noticed that we seem to following the same song and dance that we typically do each season. We start hot out of the gate, struggle mid-season (keep in mind we are now 0-8 in December the past two seasons), then we turn it out for the second half. Hopefully we continue this trend and come out on fire after the new year. We need to get back to basics though, that's evident.

Over the years after we play Clarkson the next game is a real stinker. Last night's UVM game followed that same pattern.

The Saints did come out playing hard in the first, but still found themselves on the wrong side of a 2-0 game. Needless to say things went south from there and the third period was very tough to watch.

When you lose 4 in a row there is a lot of work to do everywhere. I expect this team will look different when the Saints open up the second half against UVM.

I agree with everything you said. The break couldn't come at a better time, and I think that the Saints will be firing on all cylinders come January.

Enjoy the Holidays, everybody.

This definitely brought me comfort and joy, much thanks! It's a good sign to see from the stats that we are a clearly difficult opponent.

Unfortunately, another way to look at this is that these teams have improved since these games while we have not. The break comes at a good time, to pull things back together and get back on track.

This is probably more of Got6 question, but does anyone know how our freshmen class is starting to piece together for next year? I have heard a couple good things, but am just curious what we are looking at ... Would be great to have two consecutive powerhouse freshmen classes in a row!

Without getting into specifics, next year's class looks rock solid. A solid 'A' grade in my book. I'll leave the specifics to others, save my previous post re incoming goalie Kyle Hayton being recently named USHL 'tender of the Week. He is the real deal IMO.

Yes, pretty good things in store I think. We have a very solid goalie in Hayton. Not sure when guys will be enrolling but Purmal and Gicewizc are going to good d-men. There is a forward that has been compared to Matt Carey, Marnell who will be a fast, energy player, and Lough is a very solid forward with pretty good numbers. I don't know a lot about Eden, Gluchowski and Burmaster but I know that the coaches are thoroughly vetting players and that I am sure they will be good. They are all out on the recruiting trail now too and would expect they will start offering more kids as well for future years. I think we are pretty well stocked at d and goalie.

I'm confident that they are putting together extremely good consecutive classes. I think the current freshmen class is pretty good and will be hard to top but I think the coaches are very happy with what they have coming in and positions us well for the future. Having said that, it is so competitive and schools like Yale, Harvard and even Q-Pac continue to real in very good players. The latter still mystifies me as I'd never let my kid go near that touch hole Pecknold, but they continue to get some good players even if a few of them don't figure out they don't want to be there until after they get there and leave early in the season.

Could be wrong on this - but I believe that Tommy Thompson, who is not playing this season and had 5G 5A 10 Pts. in 31 games last season, will be playing again this fall.

On another note, I heard that #7 is eligible for the NHL Draft in June. I think that he will someday play in the NHL, but selfishly hope that he stays in school for 4 seasons.

Last I heard there was no definitive word on whether or not Tommy Thompson will be back. I'd say it's possible but not guaranteed.

I have often thought that we could use his speed on the PK. I think he was the fastest skater on the team last year.
