St Lawrence Hockey

Dang but I hate ties! Better than losses certainly.....but boy do I hate ties.
I was only able to listen but it sounded like a well played game by both teams. Credit to Princeton from battling back from 2-0 and 3-2. Boy.... it was 2-0 and we hit the pipe and just missed going up 3-0. Again...like at Brown that 1st Princeton goal late in the period seemed to turn the tide of the game again.

In the end it looks like the difference in the game was our PP. It has been strong all year but tonight 1-8 just doesn't cut it. We had a wide edge in PP time as we had 8 to Princeton's 3. Given that advantage we didn't capitalize like we have been doing.

Quinny is flying and scoring. We had best be better tomorrow night or the result could be the same as last weekend. Here is hoping for a "W"!!!!

To be honest, Mike, that game felt like a loss. Sloppy play, but we had numerous grade A opportunities that we either just quite didn't connect on, or Condon made a great save. Martin got robbed from point blank, Carey hit pipe, several players barely missed feeds... it just wasn't meant to be.

The PP did create a lot of chances, and looked good more often than not. Not capitalizing on the 1:20 of 5x3, while maintaining zone time, hurt. A lot.

That said, Princeton did look pretty good. Quick, slick forwards and solid defensively. Condon was aggressive in net and didn't leave much to shoot at. Hopefully we can get it going tomorrow afternoon, we can't get 1 point weekends and expect much.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

I didnt see a recruiting thread for St. Lawrence so I thought I would post here. Gavin Bayreuther is as gifted offensively for a defenseman as I have seen in Cedar Rapids (USHL). Elite skater, great point shot, and leads the breakout very very well. If he can sure up some defensive positioning he is going to be a great college player. He was scheduled to go to St Lawrence in 2014 but I have heard it will be accelerated to next year.

Yeah, he is a stud. Thank you to Alley Skelley at Holderness for calling the Saints office to see him. The coaches have very high expectations for him. Not sure if it is 2013 or 2014, my guess is 2013 since we lose Hughes and Dewey and only have Sweetman coming in so far. We are looking for another goalie as Rotolo decommitted....which is a good thing.

Frustrating start to league play. Tomorrow is huge now. Haven't listened to or seen any games since 11/3 as I have been in Melbourne again this month.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Welcome back, Got Six------

Gavin's dad and I talk on a relatively frequent basis. As of right now he is on schedule for a 2013 arrival. Gavin is currently second in the USHL among Defenseman in points and goals. He has put up 4-8=12 in 13 games thus far. He was a healthy scratch last night but should be back in the lineup vs NTDP on Sunday afternoon.

At least you're getting ties. I'm getting tired of "L's".

I hear ya' brother!!!! Better luck tonight.

Hello down under Leckster. Hope all is well. Sorry I missed you......assume you made it to Joe's dinner. Was stuck down here taking care of the house with no power from the storm and missed it (unfortunately.)

Brandon........good luck in the woods today and glad you finally made it back to Canton. Thanks for the game update. If you are there tonight please update us.

I'll stick with my original thought. Tonight goes a long way to determining contender or pretender. After Brown, Ylae and another tie I'm leaning towards the latter.
I am going to go say hello to Wellsy this afternoon and see the women play Q down here.

Just a reminder that the game today in Canton starts at 4:00.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

That stinks that the Saints couldn't hold on for that win. Carvel hit the nail on the head when he said "we are still learning how to win". That is two Fridays in a row that have cost us from having a 7-2 record. Have to play a full 60 minutes and learn how to finish teams off! Nice to see that Flanny and Carey each collected a point on the evening. Hopefully today the Saints will put it to the Bobcats. I see they kicked the crap out of that other North Country Team in Potsdam.

Go Saints Go!

Yes, I made it. It was a good weekend. It was good to see almost everyone from 88 back a bit older and grayer. It was really good to see who could still move in the alumni game. Hank, McColgan, Rivers and Hurley still look like they could play today. Among forwards, youth was a lot more noticeable. Charlie Giffin had the most jump.

As for this team, they are a combination of some really good things and some things that will take time. Though they have three good lines, they need scoring from more than Flanny and Carey on a consistent basis. They skate well and the PP looks good but they need to find a way to finish teams off. Even a team they outclassed talent wise like UAH, they were still hanging around at the end of the game Saturday night. Good teams develop a killer instinct that this one has not. McGovern skates well but otherwise there are not really any impact freshmen. Hagen is still learning the pace and physical aspects of the game. From the practice I watched, McMullan needs to gain a step too. This class is missing little Carey who we will see next season. Suffice it to say though Flanny will be the best player on the ice most nights and Carey is a shooter like few others. Both need to learn how to score while getting a lot of attention from the other team and taking cheapshots...there was an attempt at a major cheapshot on Flanny on 11/2, fortunately he saw it coming and ducked.

Canton is still a great place. Also nice to see an American born NHL legend at the game on Saturday with his son for a recruiting visit.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Looking at the USCHO box score for the game it shows only 9 shots on goal for the game by SLU, this must be a mistake?

This was accurate...This team is far from a team that should be ranked 16 th nationally. Extremely disappointing couple of weeks from this team.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Wow, what a dreadful game for the Saints. I listened to most of it until my ears started to bleed at 6-0. Sounded like the Saints never showed up. On the flip-side, The Bobcats sound like they might have a nice team this year. Once again the only guys to find he net were Flanagan and Carey. That is nice for their stats, but we need some other guys to tuck the puck away and take some pressure off of those two. SLU will probably have their hands full next weekend over in Boston. I hope I don't see a spanking next Sat at BU (unless it's SLU doing the spanking :).

Go Saints Go

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Went and watched the women get spanked at Q Pac. Saints just didn't have it today and got a very subpar game in net. Everytime the women got in the game....Q scored quickly.

As for the men. Pretenders. 9 shots on goal. Are you kidding me??? I listened to the last few minutes and then the recap driving home on the Q Pac radio broadcast. Listened to this song on the way home and it summarizes my feelings about the team at this point.

One word.....Fugly

As long as the guys pull their head out, Carvey and Hurley will turn it around. Just hope it is sooner rather than later.

Great to see you two weeks ago and have you back here posting. Now, we need to get Spaceman to post here again.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Expected us to be bounced from this week's poll. Didn't expect us to get as many votes as we did. Polls are meaningless, but I'm still very optimistic about this season.
Good to see Max Mobley skating for the Danbury Whalers in the Federal Hockey League. Still very speedy and strong with the puck.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

For those of you that haven't seen it yet, check out the Joe Marsh tribute video. A classy piece done on a classy guy. I have to admit I about lost it at the end when he did his pirate impersonation (right after hearing the sliding glass door story)! ;)

Good luck the rest of the way, except for one particular Friday in February.
