St Lawrence Hockey

People us different criteria as to how they vote. Clearly the people who voted for UML include perceived potential as a factor, not just performance to date. If performance to date was the only factor then how could Yale get any votes?

Possibly. Or, they have a perrenial tendency to dismiss early strong and surprising performances of teams outside major media coverage that don't fit their world view. (To wit, Canton, NY and Sault St. Marie, MI) Or both. Teams that have niot yet played do tend to get a placeholder position based on potential and that seems right. I simply like to note the anomolies and make noise on behalf of my minor media market team when it's deserved.

At the end of the day the ECAC gets under rated (or over rated (see Cornell)). All that matters is how you finish the year...

Good luck to you guys.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Good luck to the Saints tonight and Saturday. Northeastern should be a tough opponent. Hard to gauge how good they might be as their 4 wins were against Ala. Huntsville and Holy Cross. Still...they are Hockey East and a quality opponent who I am sure will be out for revenge and to keep their record perfect.

For those travelling to Ylae. Talk about hockey in New Haven being popular! Not only is the game sold out...but, our Alumni event before it is sold out as well. I assume they capped attendance at the alumni event to the amount of tickets we were given. At this point I don't have a ticket to the game so it looks like the closest game to me will be one I won't be able to attend. I am on a waiting list however. Back to the popularity in New Haven. How can it be that Q Pac is sold out for a Saturday afternoon game at 4:00 against Holy Cross??? What's going on?

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

I am happy to note that according to this website: http://collegehockeyinc.com/stats/commitments.php Jacob Pritchard of the Indiana Ice of the USHL will be joining the Saints this fall. While he is listed by Heinsenberg (under his USHL List), he lists him as uncommitted and with Youngstown of the USHL (he was likely traded). According to the Indiana website, he is tied for his team's lead in scoring with 6 points (4 G, 2A) in 7 games, is a +3 so far, and his shot % is 22.2%. He is from Michigan and is a LW.

I wonder if he is Andy Pritchard's son. If my memory's correct, Andy graduated in 1991. In any event, Jacob has made the right choice and we welcome him.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Any advice on how to make the video feed play? I'm just getting the spinning "wait" symbol.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

That was a strange game. Just looking at who carried the play and created chances, SLU should have won by four goals. NU's goalie was terrific, and they took advantage of some second period penalties and a bit of good luck in the third. They got some bounces and buried some chances.

I have a feeling this won't be the last time we're shaking our heads like this over the course of the season. We have some really good young players, but they're young.

Tomorrow's game is very winnable.

Echoing everything you said, Tim. SLU dominated a majority of that game, but did have some bad lapses in the second, along with some undisciplined penalties that led to the Huskies getting back in it, and then running away at the end.

Kevin Roy made us pay twice tonight, I believe he is up to 7-8 goals now this season. Going to have to lock him down tomorrow.

I think youth is going to give us some growing pains this year, as we've already seen at times. I think we have some absolutely fantastic players who just need to adapt to the college game, but there will be some bumps along the way. Northeastern also should be a capable team over in HE as well, hats off to their boys for getting the job done tonight. Move on to tomorrow and get it back.

Ditto from here. Also had trouble with the feed. Frustrating loss, but is part of the process with such a young team.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Nothing much to add here as Tim and Brandon have pretty much summed up my feelings.

I agree and think with our youth and inexperience....it will be a bit of a roller coaster ride. At 2-0 and then 2-1 I was thinking.... man we are letting Northeastern hang around. We are dominating and only up 2, then 1, then oops. Gotta cut down on the penalties. Gotta bury some more of those chances and boy did we have plenty.

This is going to be a fun team to watch! Lot's of hustle, skill, passing from D to wingers was really effective particularly when we were in the offensive zone. We could have had a couple of shorties whcih might thave turned the tide. Their goalie stole one for sure.

Hoping for a the same effort but a better result tomorrow night.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

The Maine weekend probably wasn't a very accurate yardstick (since Maine has no scorers) but I'm guessing that SLU will have a shot at the PS, just because of its team speed, which was pretty impressive.

I suppose. The real question is will it last through the season? I guess we'll just have to ride the wave for as long as we can.

I think it lasts especially when this is a good team. They didn't sell out the Bentley game but I chalk that up to being a Tuesday night. Once Thanksgiving and winter break happens they will struggle to sell out with most of the students gone.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Not trying to knock a free video stream but am wondering was last night's broadcast par for the course in terms of functionality and quality or was it an anomaly? Hoping for better results tonight but if it is more of the same I probably won't block off my evening to watch.
