St Lawrence Hockey

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

So is there anyone here who was at Saturday's game and can report in on how things looked?

Expanding upon my previous post about last Saturdays game; I feel that SLU is much better than a preseason #10 pick in the ECAC. However - the ECAC will be extremely competitive this year. Yale and Q are both coming off championship seasons. RPI may be the team to beat this year with possibly the best goalie in the country. Union has been very solid over the past several years. Cornell is always good and has traditionally been the team to beat in the ECAC. Brown has improved a great deal the past few seasons and should be a threat. Colgate is young and fast, and Clarkson is coming off a very good weekend at Niagara. Harvard always brings in top recruits and, one of these years, that will pay off. Princeton and Dartmouth should be solid as well. There will be no easy nights and I think it will be wide open this year with no dominating teams like we have seen in previous seasons. The conference as a whole seems to have improved and I feel that they are winning many more recruiting battles than they have in the past. St. Lawrence very well may finish 10th but they are going to be a hard-working, well-coached, fun team to watch. Can't wait to get it going!

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

But you have the (probable) pre season #1 in Plattsburgh in your own back yard. It's pretty good hockey and Stafford is a rollicking good place to watch a game.

I have actually been to a few games. It's quite fun, but not the same as a game in Appleton. I'll try my best to make as many as possible :)

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Nice win.

Very very nice broadcast.

Thanks Joe. The upgrade to the broadcast is a big step forward and offering it to us for free is much appreciated.

Nice start by the Saints. Congrats on starting the season off with a win. Nice to see the scoring come from different lines too!!! Go get 'em Saturday night.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

I tried viewing it and received a message indicating I did not have an adaptive player. I've been able to view all other broadcasts without a problem on other sites.

Are you using QuickTime? Media Center works fine for me.
Re : The game. SLU looked bigger, faster & stronger. The frosh don't look like frosh--especially M. Carey. But even tho the SLU site sings Weninger's praises, I thought he was fighting the puck all nite long. Hard to disagree with the result, tho. Can't wait till Nov 22 & 23, when I get to see 'em demolish the Tigers.

I have Windows media player and I may have just found the problem. The default programs was set to custom instead of windows default. I'll be watching tomorrow night.

Looks like it still doesn't play. Message about not having rstp protocol and no adaptive playback on this machine.

It's not a Windows Media Player based video. It runs off of Adobe Flash Player, you need to either download Adobe Flash Player if you don't have it or upgrade it to the newest version because your current version may not be compatible.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Well that's a good start to the young season. Way to go boys! Anyone else as impressed as I am with the freshmen? The future (and quite possibly the present) looks good from what I saw, that's for sure!

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Here's my thoughts after watching both games:

1. I love the video feed. Thanks goes out to those who helped make this happen; I think many who post here helped with this.

2. The freshmen are extremely talented and poised. I was impressed with all of them.

3. The team has much more balance and looks much better than last year's team. Time will tell.

4. Matt Carey is tremendous at faceoffs; an area that really needed improvement.

5. Greg Carey has a 5 point weekend - not too shabby:). My personal nickname for him is, "The Tailor," because he sure can thread the needle and does so lightning-fast.

Nice start for the Saints. A much tougher test lies ahead next weekend, as FSU is very good and that is a LONG bus ride.

Thanks for the info. I wasn't near a laptop tonight.:(

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Good to see SLU back in form (even if against a so so Maine team). Back in my old days at UVM it was one of the best weekends when SLU came to town..great to watch. Those late 80's teams...

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Great opening weekend to start the season, some nice incoming talent this year.

Hey E!
Were you at the games?
Watched most of both although I didn't have sound due to a problem with my laptop (not with the feed.)

Very nice start to the season for the Saints. Way to go boys!!!!!

Carey picked right up where he left off....Ward looks to be a good addition and is also off to a good start and who would have thought that after two games Bayreuther would have two goals. Lot's of contributions around the lineup.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Hi Mike! No I couldnt make it there this weekend, will hopefully be up there for the Northeastern series. I received all the scoring updates through the CHN Go app on phone which is great.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Re RIT weekend series: Tickets are now available via Appleton office @ some $6 each

Based on past experiences I would recommend getting there prior to the game as there is no reserved seating
My aging group of 4 Larry fans will be seated, hopefully, at top tier on east side of arena
Easily identifiable via SLU cap(s).

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Cya there. My wife & I will be at Friday's game with a sailing buddy (RIT grad) & his girlfriend--he's getting the tix, so I don't know where we'll be--I'll be wearing an (old) SLU home sweater.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Not too much has been posted yet about the Maine series, so I wanted to add my two cents - all of which is positive - and hopefully others will chime in. I’m going to focus here primarily on the freshmen (including Brian Ward, who comes in as a sophomore), while keeping in mind that only two games that count have been played so far.

As for the team, what stood out to me the most was the poise the guys showed during the third on Sat. night when Maine threw the kitchen sink at us and tied the game at 2-all. There was no panic, no running around, the guys calmly stuck with it shift-after-shift, and all of this culminated with a gut-check win. Also, this team goes to the net with a vengeance.

As for the freshman, I found last night a website, http://www.sbncollegehockey.com/eca...e-harvard-quinnipiac-union-cornell/in/4532713 that ranked our recruiting class as 10th-best in the ECAC. I think whoever assigned that ranking missed by a mile and placed too much emphasis on NHL-drafted players, which means/has always meant very little IMO.

My alpha thoughts on each of the 8 freshman who played versus Maine:

● Gavin Bayreuther – His passing is quick and accurate and he has a laser of a shot that seems always on net. 2 goals in 2 games for a rookie d’man in his first-2 NCAA games (3 counting the exhibition game) speak for itself. I wonder if that’s ever happened before at SLU – if so, not much I’m certain?

● Matt Carey – Great passer and he won 19 of 33 faceoffs. He really was impressive.

● Alexander Dahl – He was everywhere both games, was great on the PK, and reminds me of Travis Vermulien (spelling?); just a lot bigger than #26 was. If not already so, he will be a fan favorite as I see it.

● Mike Graham – Played Sat. night only, but was solid back on ‘d.’ Very poised

● Woodruff Hudson – He rarely lost a battle along the boards all weekend. He is going to be a handful for opposition defenses.

● Ben Masella – Played Fri. night only, but was also solid back on ‘d.’ Very poised as well.

● Eric Sweetman – He looked very polished back on 'd.’

● Brian Ward – Great on faceoffs, and his release and accuracy reminds me of another forward on the team.

If that’s the 10th best crop of rookies in the ECAC, I’ll eat…. (oh, never mind!)

My very preliminary impression is that this TEAM is vastly improved over last year's team.

Any other thoughts out there?
