Space exploration: Where do we go from here?

Re: Space exploration: Where do we go from here?

interesting. On what basis is crew dragon cool and the space shuttle lame? In orbit, the ss became a mini space station for doing science, repairing satellites, putting new satellites in orbit, etc. Crew dragon is just a taxicab.

And aren’t you supposed to prefer collective public projects over profit-driven corporate enterprises?

This is pointy.

I'm with you 100%. The shuttle was incredible. My animus toward Musk aside, this is particularly lame in comparison.

The first question I had when I saw the live stream was: Wait, this thing is all touchscreen? I'm scared I won't be able to adjust the A/C in my car if the touchscreen fails. I'm not trying to dock with another object at 17,000 MPH.

The touch screen aspect was part of the reason I asked if the general public would benefit from the development.

First the coding requirements to be able to run that- which was covered in a reply. And then the electronics requirements. One thing to note- automotive requirements are much more stringent than normal tablets- so the step from a car to the space ship may not be that much more- just different testing.

Really, I see no reason why SpaceX would not start with a Model S center console- it should be tested to more vibration and wider environmental ranges than a normal tablet or screen. And for sure it's more protected for EM since it's surrounded by batteries and coils.

Let's try this again.

We're still in the moron Good Morning America part of the feed.

3:22 ET, 50% chance of scrub for weather.

T -1:00 and still go. Just like before. Weather appears to be better, but that's just local looking.

I remember back in the 60's the whole country would stop and watch when there was a televised(most of them seemed to be) launch

I was just remembering watching Apollo 11 with my dad, and I realized I am 15 years older than he was then.
