Re: Sochi Olympics Results thread - SPOILERS

The Women's XC Skiing Sprint is in a few hours. One of the favorites is Kikkan Randall of Anchorage. You'll be able to tell if she wins because you'll hear a loud roar from the north. Seriously, this may the most anticipated event up here. It has been seriously hyped in the press.

Nada. She missed the semifinals by .05 of a second.

It sucks that we're not cleaning up and taking medals home left and right... but it's nice to see such variety on the podium.
And nice to see that we're starting to do better in sports like x-country where we've been non-entities and in which the athletes aren't celebrities.

edit: like luge

I bet snow conditions are to blame.

Sorry, I've never liked Shaun White. He seems like a *****.

Most of us don't actually "know" any celebrities or sports figures. And you could well be right. However, I've read he's a pretty grounded young guy, takes care of his parents, is family oriented and has no bad habits. Oh, and now that he's evidently no longer el numero uno, he's just your average 27-year old with 20 million bucks in the bank. Very soft landing.

Wow, the Japanese women got totally robbed there. Very kind home ice advantage- the refs never paid attention that the scorers tried to get their attention to review a call that looks to have been a goal for Japan.

Too bad they could not put one of those chances in- it would be great to see Japan win an Olympic game.

Re: Sochi Olympics Results thread - SPOILERS

When the teams entered in the Opening Ceremonies there were a lot of comments about "going to school in Boulder, Colorado". Wouldn't be surprised if many of them are wealthy enough to pay their own way. Few, if any are medals threats, but they get to say they were in the Olympics.

Like the married couple representing Dominica in cross country skiing. The guy is 40-something, lives on Staten Island and works on Wall Street. NBC pretty much said he's there because of all the money he sends down there for "charity."

Re: Sochi Olympics Results thread - SPOILERS

Erin Hamlin takes bronze in women's luge. First for the U.S. in singles luge.

Watched some of this women's singles luge yesterday. Noted as the women stood up after their runs in the skin tight uniforms that there appears to be an advantage in having a low center of gravity while lying in the sled - at least all the top finishers appear to have that. I guess I'd have to try the skeleton to get my center of gravity that low....

Helluva hockey game. I just wish there were more teams this skilled and this evenly matched.

Re: Sochi Olympics Results thread - SPOILERS

US got absolutely ****ed on that call.
Wish we had gotten more explanation. Was is because it didn't meet the standard for reversal (I don't agree)? Wasn't reviewable (if so, why did she review it)? In any case, I'm not going to complain too much, because there shouldn't have been a whistle in the first place.

Re: Sochi Olympics Results thread - SPOILERS

Horrible decision by the USA d-man. Not sure what she thought she saw.

Also - Pierre is a doosh.
