Sochi 2014: From Russia With Love

Re: Sochi 2014: From Russia With Love

That could be for days and you know PT will only have figure skating, skiing and snowboarding. The cable channels will have the good stuff.

Plus some like myself will watch the CBC and have access to that coverage.

Re: Sochi 2014: From Russia With Love

Voting for a different thread to discuss results, happenings. Tivo means you can wait a bit before seeing.

Re: Sochi 2014: From Russia With Love

I have created a spoiler thread for events that haven't aired in the US yet.

Re: Sochi 2014: From Russia With Love

Once it hits NBC's primetime programming...it's fair game in this thread. Otherwise, it goes in the spoilers thread.

Not really. Ice hockey isn't going to air in prime time. It will air live on MSNBC, NBCSN or USA. The Gold Medal game is on NBC at 7AM in the east. However, how many people will be watching the games live and how many are waiting until they get home from work/school to watch on DVR?

My belief is that this is live sports so the idea of spoilers is ludicrous. However, many people will be "time shifting" the games so I think results from that day's events and discussion of those events can be confined to the spoiler thread. This thread can be reserved for discussion of the games and events that haven't happened yet, or events that have happened a day ago or more. But that's just me. This is a Democracy (well, a Republic) so it's up to everyone to reach a consensus.

Here is a suggestion, if not knowing the results of an event means that much to you, stay off the www.

Re: Sochi 2014: From Russia With Love

I like Priceless idea. I like reading what people think but it is hard to sift thru to ignore stuff.

That's kind of what I was saying....but, probably not as well.

This. It's about courtesy. I'm going to be recording and watching almost everything. I'd like to be able to talk about future events without having them spoiled.

Agreed. It's just hardly any effort to put discussion of recent results in a different thread, so why not extend that courtesy to those who request it?

Re: Sochi 2014: From Russia With Love

Love the different spoiler thread idea. It will be hard to restrain, but in the meantime do we get an Olympic hotties thread as well?

Re: Sochi 2014: From Russia With Love

Isn't that what got images taken away from us?

Yes. More to the point, something that was posted set off the Google Adsense detector and would have cost the site ad revenue. As a result, the ability to post images has been removed.

How could an image post be detected by adsense (this is more my ignorance in how adsense works) and how could it cost the site ad revenue?

Pardon my ignorance.

I'm guessing some of google's advertisers don't want to advertise on websites that feature pornography, and if intertubes has the capability to detect specific faces, I imagine they can use the same to detect boobs, asses, etc. A pretty lady in a g-string probably looks like a naked *** to this image detection software they use, and USCHO was probably faced with the option of getting rid of it completely or losing the revenue from advertisers not wanting to be associated with nudie pics.

Makes sense. Kind of.

Seems silly to completely nuke the image posting capability for one screw up. Why didn't they just kill the thread and issue a fairly stern warning that the HC thread is a no go moving forward?

At least I assume that's where it was.

Well the ability to post images minus ponies. Ponies are somehow wonderfully exempt. ;)
