SNC Regular Season 2009-10

Re: SNC Regular Season 2009-10

Ok, enough said regarding Point. Time to concentrate on River Falls. What can we expect? SNC swept the three game regular season series with 2 tough and wild wins at River and an easy win at CCC, a game that was meaningless for both teams as they both had their respective positions established in the Peters Cup tourney.

My prediction is a SNC victory, but a tough one as I think besides St. Scholastica; River is the only other NCHA team that has the "wheels" to play with SNC. I think that O'Brien will be the difference!

Thoughts?

Re: SNC Regular Season 2009-10

I like the underdog, it is always fun to root for the little guy. When I watched the USA vs Canada Sunday I wanted USA to win. St Norberts I think is clearly the better more mature team. St Norberts has the consistency, speed, size and goaltending. The Falcons have had some loses to weaker teams and close ones they shouldn`t have. RF has a young team but skill in key positions but not the depth of St Norberts. I like Czuba-Calleja combo as well as Brossman and freshman D man Horn is good all around.

Now saying that because it isn`t a five or seven game series anything can happen in just one game. Since Knight`s have one all three prevous games wonder if the law of averages will work against them and eventually they have to lose? If the Falcons take penalties , which they always seem to do, the Knights will beat them.

I listened to some of the game St Norbert`s broadcasted on the 13th and if I were River falls I would play back the comments in the pre and post game show made by Knights coach about what weak D line they could exploit and how Calleja spends too much time with fancy moves instead on back checking that might give the falcons a little incentive to win. I love Coghlin`s comment in the post game when he said they were looking forward to better competetion in the post season that should fire up River Falls.

Go Knights!

Now that I'm a temp SNC fan I'll throw my hat in the ring.

I think winning has a pretty simple foundation. Keep UWRF and specfically Calleja in front of you if your an SNC defender. Everyone knows they love to fly guys way behind the defense and look for the stretch pass for a quick breakaway.

Frustrate them by shutting down the stretch pass, hustle, and watch the PP chances roll in.

Shut down the stretch pass and keep all Falcons in front of you and I think SNC pulls out the win.

I'm confident Coughlin and the team will be prepared for this.

SNC is hockey! Gamblers is a show filled with T shirt tosses, kissing cams and free pizza giveaways. I hope that SNC continues to offer what it is, a great night of pure hockey at a reasonable price.:)

I don't disagree, actually, but I was responding to MTOAER's post that SNC attendance suffers because it against the Gamblers.

My point is that it's up to SNC to develop its crowd the way it wants. I'm sure there are some 'hockey' fans who choose a Gamblers game over SNC on some nights. However, more people choose the Gamblers because of the other entertainment factors, as others point out.

Unless the two programs work together to avoid same dates - like the USHL's Omaha Lancers and the Univ. of Neb.-Omaha did this year - such duplication will continue to happen.

I just don't think SNC can blame the Gamblers for its attendance 'issues' - if you believe there are any. SNC student turnout has nothing to do with it, etc.

And, I do remember having beer at the Stone - though not in recent years. It's not an on-campus facility, so there is no prohibition against it.

GB Puck Fan:

No offense intended on my comments about the Gamblers. I agree with everything that you said in this post. Gamblers and SNC home games on the same weekend does not help either program as far as attendance.

GO SNC!!

Re: SNC Regular Season 2009-10

Rob May simply gave F-Gore what he asked for on one night and became famous in Stevens Point.

Ramponie, well, he was a little more guilty once in a while, but he often got a bad rap because he was really good at hip checking. It was great to watch unless it was one of your guys getting checked.
I always found it funny May had a reputation as a goon because he really wasn't one. He was a big guy who took care of business a time or two when he had to but he wasn't constantly taking cheap shots every chance he got. Rampone was much more of an agitator than May was and of anyone they've had since they became good in the mid 90's I'd say Marc Collins had many more issues than May.

Enough history. Looking forward to the Falcons. It was hard to get much of a feel the last game of the regular season because the intensity just wasn't there for the full game with nothing on the line beyond pride. I was fairly impressed with the young Falcons team. The goalie looked decent. They seemed to skate pretty well, so I expect them to try and use the ice even though they don't have an advantage over SNC in speed. I just think it's all about getting a good start for them. SNC hasn't always been the fastest starting team this season. With the Falcons' youth and their less than stellar record in the Cornerstone they need a good start to have any real shot. If they get down two goals I think you can stick a fork in them the way O'Brien has been playing.

Pretty quiet over here on this thread....
What's the deal? Is the thread taking on the qualities of the Cornerstone crowd? Yikes!

Looking forward to a great game Saturday.

I heard the same comment about what couglin said about calleja in that broadcast. calleja leads the falcons in plus minus and has 37pts. I guess when your couglin you can say anything until rf beats them. Bottom line calleja is a huge reason why uwrf is where they are. Should be a good game if uwrf stays out of the box.

Should be another near capacity crowd....although both the SNC men and women won their first round NCAA BB games tonight and will be playing during our game @ "The Stone".
May draw the crowd down a bit..

And the circus is in town, and there's WIAA hoops playoffs, and the Gamblers face Omaha in a big USHL matchup ... lots going on...

Re: SNC Regular Season 2009-10

Sorry I won't be there...I'm on wrestling tournament duty all day. I'll be sure to tune in via web, though! Hubby is road-tripping over w/a van-load of Falcon fans. Pete, he knows what you look like so he'll probably track you down to say hello. Feel free to venture over to section C to make nice with the enemy anytime!
I'm glad to hear that the spunk has returned to the SNC fans. What's the point of playing without that?
Let's hope for a well-reffed game...

Re: SNC Regular Season 2009-10

I will check in with him sometime during the nite....Otherwise, I will be in my 'normal' position....standing on top on the red line...
Look for a two goal differential: SNC 3, River 1.

Re: SNC Regular Season 2009-10

I stopped watching it after the 2nd period I could tell Knights were best team and deserved to win. Sure hope they do well in national tourney.
