SNC Regular Season 2009-10

Re: SNC Regular Season 2009-10

Great effort tonight up and down the roster. They are really clicking and I love how contributions are coming from all over the place. Outstanding balance. Tonight wasn't a reflection of River Falls playing poorly. It was SNC playing that well. As much as I wanted to see O'Brien get the shutout with the roll he's on now, I was happy for the Falcons that they at least got on the board. It was one of those nights with no bounces for them. They weren't going to win this game, but they easily could have had a couple more goals with any luck on their side. They didn't generate a ton of shots, but they had several really good opportunities. They deserved better than to be shutout.

Re: SNC Regular Season 2009-10

Last night was complete and utter domination. To give up only 11 shots in an NCHA Peters Cup final? Are you kidding me? River did not lay down they were simply not a match last night for arguably the deepest team SNC has ever had.

Give credit to the entire coaching staff for selling a team that there are really no stars this year, compared to the championship team of 2008.That is a difficult proposition as within a team there is always the natural pecking order. Guys on the power play, first line, etc... However, this year each player truly is playing a key role. On any given night is could be "that" guy's turn. Trust me it will still be up to the seniors and juniors to pull this thing through, as they have been there before as champions, and have a chance for another National title. That is the Green Knight way.
When you have Scott Pulak's line matching against the other team's best line, effectively, that leaves a whole lot of room for the other three lines. Did you notice last night Pulak matched against their top line (Czuba) until their top line was being was being outplayed by Roadhouse's line then a clever match up switch squelched any chance of a comeback.

In the last couple of weeks SNC has gotten progressively better. I don't think that trend will change. The goal always is to get to the Frozen Four. Then anything can happen. The road will get tougher with each step, but I am not sure I have seen team in the West with as much depth as SNC. And by the way, I think they have a sense of redemption/burning disgust that they were not able to successfully defend their title last year. Couple that passion with thier skill and depth, not to mention their experience and they are certainly the team to beat in the West if not the entire country.

Good luck to the Knights on Saturday, though I think luck will have little to do with it on Saturday.

Re: SNC Regular Season 2009-10

My thoughts on last nights performance:

SNC dominated in every area highlighted by a defensive effort by forwards, defense, and finally, O'Brien who made some very nice saves when required. Per previous posts, SNC seems to really playing well as a whole team right now and are peaking at the right time. I believe that their leadership from coaches on down is the difference. They will be tough in the playoffs, but as we all know; tough is not a guarantee for wins as NCAA games can be a bit difficult to predict. All in all, a great night of hockey!

As far as River Falls, the University should be extremely proud of their team and coaching staff. Freeman and the group always come to play hockey as it is meant to be played. Stevens Point and their coaching staff could learn a thing or two from the River Falls group. Again congrats on a fine season!

Re: SNC Regular Season 2009-10

To support 'Real Old #35's' comment about this being one of, if not, the deepest SNC team in history, consider this:
In last 8 games:
1 -- Goals allowed: 7.
2 -- Goals scored -- 37.
3 -- Number of different players, who have scored goals in last 8 games: AMAZINGLY -- 17!!!
Ryd leads the way with five. Seven players with one goal.
All four lines are producing...
I like the way this team is peaking at just the right time in the season..
The best is still ahead of us!!!

Where has IDangledYourMom been lately to educate us on how poor their depth is and how it would be a tough year without the 12 guys he said were getting kicked off the team? That sure became a forgotten alias.

Can’t speak for “DYM”… but I do feel a finger partly pointed here as well so in my own defense … I even recall saying last year & all along how deep the club actually was & scary if coach “C” wasn’t as faithful to certain characters as he is. Some Knight’s are amazing to watch & still have not had the chance to completely evolve. Easy to say now that last year’s episode was obviously the best that could ever happen (… nothing but a good house cleaning !).
The Green Knights success of late is undeniably due to this club’s depth & their push towards this year’s championship entirely rests on “Cogs” continued trust of that depth.
Good Luck to the Knights … make the NCHA proud.

I don't recall you making outrageous claims. If you go early in this thread the crazy stuff is from IDangledYourMom and a couple of overzealous Stout posters detailing how badly Stout was going to kick SNC around to start the season.

Despite the predictions of our student fans....

I know myself, StoutHockeyFan44, Fritz62 and our DA chairman from last year who is now alum and lives in DePere will be at CCC rooting on SNC. I'm guessing we will be one of the few, if not only, fans from other schools attending to cheer on SNC. Especially driving 4 1/2 hours on a Wednesday during our busy school week.

Now it's about representing the NCHA well and the DA's can respect that SNC is our conference's team this season.

BDR:

Nice post and thank you! By the way, I seem to recall Stout students in Lake Placid the year that SNC won. I barely remember "tipping a few to many" with them at the local tavern called Zig Zags. What a headache the next day!:o

Welcome aboard, even it is only temporary. I'm pretty sure all of us were rooting for Stout to bring it all home once they got to Lake Placid. Pete, Toe Blake's Brother and I all sit (or stand) within about 20 feet of each other in the top row of the middle section (G). Stop by and say hello.

Re: SNC Regular Season 2009-10

I think I'm supposed to come in here and whine about something, so......well........aw, hell, I've got nothing.

That was a helluva game, and you've got a helluva team. Congratulations. You deserve the win. Oh, and let's get this in black and white: The better team won.

Good luck the rest of the way and bring home a National Championship to the West.

I can certainly see why our friends in the East did not want Adrian coming out that way!

Re: SNC Regular Season 2009-10

I was just looking through the SNC game preview here, and I think I missed something big somwhere along the way. For clarification, is the Mark Mazzoleni listed as an assistant coach for SNC the same Mark Mazzoleni who Coached Stevens Point to 2 NCHA Regular Season Titles, 3 Peters Cups, and 3 NCAA DIII National Championships?

Yes. He's been working primarily with the goaltenders. Tim Coghlin was a senior captain for Mazzoleni on UWSP's 1989 title team.
