SLU 2010-2011 - Until Moko Comes Along This Will Have To Do

I was just watching the Bruins pull their annual choke job, and there was a really cool Stanley Cup promo featuring Jamie Baker's big goal against the Red Wings back in 1994(?).

Just wanted to pull this back up for laughs. Congrats Tim and Mike, and most importantly, congrats to pevs, man what a great story he'll have for his kids/grandkids.

Thanks, Buddy!! :)

The funny thing is, that day was the turning point for Boston. They needed it to get over the hump and put all those bad seasons behind them. Once they got through that Montreal series, I really started to believe they could win. By the time game 6 of the finals came, I had complete faith that they'd win two in a row.

Great playoff run for Peverley and the whole team.

Go Bs!!!!!

Re: SLU 2010-2011 - Until Moko Comes Along This Will Have To Do

Hard to imagine that Pevs will have his name on the Cup. Awesome, truly awesome. I wonder how Coach Marsh felt last night, being a Boston area guy and watching one of his former players achieve the dream that we have all done in our driveways, backyard rinks, and elsewhere.
I know Joe is a Red Sox fan, so I am assuming he is a Bruins fan too.
It was an odd experience for me, since Tim Thomas has now turned his career into a "feel good" story and deservedly so. I recall not caring for him while he played at UVM, he had some great quotes about playing at Appleton.
Don't forget, next season the Stanley Cup parade will be in Toronto. :)

Haven't you ever noticed how similar the Saints jerseys became to the Bruins jerseys after Joe took over?

Re: SLU 2010-2011 - Until Moko Comes Along This Will Have To Do

I thought Pevs was great! He was forced into a high profile situation (Horton injury) and he delivered (Maybe the Sedin brothers should take notice. They were afraid to go into the slot the whole freakin' series).

What about Tayt and Leckster...also big Bruins fans. That was awesome.

Regarding the above, I would almost be surprised if Joe even watched it because he is about as big a fan of pro hockey as he is of shootouts. After the grotesque, late hit on Horton I can't say that I blame him. But other than Horton nearly meeting his maker, that was some fantastic hockey to watch. Vancouver was outplayed, outmuscled, outworked, out-coached and WAY Out-CLASSED. Congrats to Tim Thomas who was fantastic. Congrats to Chiarelli (I think it is great that Shero and Chiarelli have won 2 of the last 3 and the other team *Blackhawks* are loaded on college players). Everyone on the Bruins played their part and kicked in where needed. Game 3 and 4 were both huge and nice to see Pevs be such a key in game 4, but really with his penalty killing and speed he was a key for the whole series because if Vancouver got their PP on track it could have been lights out. Their special teams were deadly all season until the finals. That is a playoff I will remember for a lot of years because I have really never seen a team without a true marquis player (Thomas was this season, but not over his career), work as a team with a different player rising to the top in each game, and just will it right to the end. Congrats to Pevs and his parents who are two of the nicest, most down to earth people. Not bad for a kid whose parents put him in hockey at age 10 to make some friends and get out of the house who managed 2 goals as a freshmen. What a story that he managed to match that season total in one game in the Stanley Cup Final. Glad he was the first, but hope he won't be the last. Already hoping for a repeat!:p

CSN in Boston (Dale Arnold) made a point that Boston has won 6 championships since Toronto last won a playoff game.

Re: SLU 2010-2011 - Until Moko Comes Along This Will Have To Do

Congrats. to the Bruins and to Pevs. A Ranger fan I am but rooted like hell for the B's.

"Congrats.," also, to Tim U on his now-famous quote that the Bruins were puling their annual choke job. I hope that SLU chokes the same way henceforth. :D

Thanks Brandon.......I have been in 7th heaven since Wednesday night. A lot of our contingent are Bruins fans (Tim U, Leckster and Tayt to name a few).
It was wonderful to see Peverley take advantage of the opportunity. Tim and I were talking about how almost every time he was on the ice something good happened. Throughout the last few series he made so many great passes to give his team loads of scoring chances and then burying a few himself was icing on the cake. Pevs was the "Swiss Army knife" for the Bruins. PP time, killing penalties, moving from line to line. His speed really worked to his advantage didn't it??!!!!

Looking at the schedule it's nice to see all those return trips to Appleton as payback for all those road games. I find the Thursday trip for one game to Michigan a bit odd. Long way to go for one game but great experience and exposure none the less.

It's been a great year.....my Giants win the World Series and now the B's get their first cup in 39 years and a Saint has his name on it. Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket??!!!!

I have a feeling this is a trial of what some of the Big Ten teams plan to do when the BTHC is formed. UMAA is playing 4 one-game-and-done non-conference games this year thus far: Niagara, SLU, Northeastern, and Union. I have this itching feeling that the four schools I just mentioned will be paid by UMAA to go out (whether bus or fly, probably also pay for the hotel room), play one game, and you won't hear from them again for quite a while.

State has done return trips (like one to Clarkson very recently), at least Wisconsin's women's team is making a return trip to RPI (not sure if the men's team will do the same; Mercyhurst and RIT are on their schedule; RIT is a longshot if you throw in an offer to have the games at Blue Cross, but I'll safely bet against Mercyhurst getting a return), Ohio State has done some traveling in the recent past (they were in RPI's tournament in 2006). Minnesota's only away NC is against another Big 10 school, and no return trips in recent history with the eastern teams. UMAA has traveled to a couple of the big name Hockey East schools (UNH, BU), but I highly doubt you'll see them traveling much anymore, if at all. Penn State, well, who knows.

I hear Justin Baker is no longer attending SLU, any truth to this and did he go OHL?

Re: SLU 2010-2011 - Until Moko Comes Along This Will Have To Do

My sister is friends with Hurly's son or nephew, not sure which. I asked her to try and find out about Baker. I sure hope not as well.

With his injury rehab I'd be surprised if he went to the OHL and like you guys it would be a loss and a blow to the program if he indeed has left school.

Re: SLU 2010-2011 - Until Moko Comes Along This Will Have To Do

Hello friends of ECAC hockey,

My name is Kevin McNamara, and I will be a senior on Colgate's hockey team this year. I've had an idea for a charitable project for the past few years, and I wanted to make sure I implemented it before I finished playing for Colgate and in our league. I’ve spoken with Commissioner Hagwell, and this season the teams of the ECAC are going to join together in a project called Goals for Good.
It will be a campaign relying on the competitiveness of the teams, fans, and alumni bases of the teams in the ECAC. "Goals for Good" will be based out of a website, and on the front page, there will be a standings table, much like the one on the ECAC site, except it will rank teams by money raised. Each team will pair up with a charity or cause close to their university or community.
The front page on the website will have a link to each team/partner charity page which will explain the relation. There will also be a donate button on that page. There will be different options for donations. A donor could donate by the amount of goals that a team will score over the duration of the season (example: John Smith will donate $1 for every goal that Colgate University scores this season), a donor could donate by the amount of goals that a team will score over the course of a weekend series (example: John Smith will donate $1 for every goal that Colgate University will score this weekend against Harvard University and Dartmouth College), or a donor could donate a one-time amount (example: John Smith will donate $5 to Colgate University and Charity XYZ).
As of now, we are working on finishing the website. I am also trying to spread the word of the initiative as much as possible to build a fan base for the start of the season and the launch of the website. Goals for Good is trying to build its fan base through a Facebook Fan Page. You can find the Fan Page at www.facebook.com/goals4good. It would great if you could “Like” the initiative and spread the word. I am also new to this process, so all comments and suggestions are appreciated. Sorry for breaking your thread, and thank you very much for your time and support.

Kevin McNamara
