SLU 2010-2011 - Until Moko Comes Along This Will Have To Do

Re: SLU 2010-2011 - Until Moko Comes Along This Will Have To Do

Hello friends of ECAC hockey,

My name is Kevin McNamara, and I will be a senior on Colgate's hockey team this year. I've had an idea for a charitable project for the past few years, and I wanted to make sure I implemented it before I finished playing for Colgate and in our league. I’ve spoken with Commissioner Hagwell, and this season the teams of the ECAC are going to join together in a project called Goals for Good.
It will be a campaign relying on the competitiveness of the teams, fans, and alumni bases of the teams in the ECAC. "Goals for Good" will be based out of a website, and on the front page, there will be a standings table, much like the one on the ECAC site, except it will rank teams by money raised. Each team will pair up with a charity or cause close to their university or community.
The front page on the website will have a link to each team/partner charity page which will explain the relation. There will also be a donate button on that page. There will be different options for donations. A donor could donate by the amount of goals that a team will score over the duration of the season (example: John Smith will donate $1 for every goal that Colgate University scores this season), a donor could donate by the amount of goals that a team will score over the course of a weekend series (example: John Smith will donate $1 for every goal that Colgate University will score this weekend against Harvard University and Dartmouth College), or a donor could donate a one-time amount (example: John Smith will donate $5 to Colgate University and Charity XYZ).
As of now, we are working on finishing the website. I am also trying to spread the word of the initiative as much as possible to build a fan base for the start of the season and the launch of the website. Goals for Good is trying to build its fan base through a Facebook Fan Page. You can find the Fan Page at www.facebook.com/goals4good. It would great if you could “Like” the initiative and spread the word. I am also new to this process, so all comments and suggestions are appreciated. Sorry for breaking your thread, and thank you very much for your time and support.

Kevin McNamara

Great idea Kevin and I am sure the SLU faithful will support your project. I definately will and will go the Facebook Page. Best of luck this year with the project and your season (except for the games against SLU!!!)

Big Ten hockey? "Super" league? So why not a 6-team Ivy and a 6-team Better-Than-Ivy, so that there are TWO guaranteed NCAA spots, instead of one? You can't tell me that AD's around the EZAC haven't been thinking along these lines--OK, maybe you can, but I won't believe you.
And, a "new" non-Ivy EZAC could expand to RIT, Niagara. . . and who knows who else?
This all sounds like a Bob Dylan replay on a late-night album folk rock station: "The times, they are doing something." Who'd have thought that Pegula could set all this in motion by throwing a few bucks at Penn State!

Christian Lopez '10 caught Jeter's 3,000 hit (a dinger over the bullpens)

Apple - it's going to be the Liberty League + Colgate. Forget about Quinnipiac. The Ivy Group goes to their own conference and then Quinny either goes back to AHA (and loses scholarships) or into HEA.

Well, I am proud of the fellow alum for not being a d-bag and giving the ball back. That was cool.

BUT, not too happy with the admissions office for admitting Yankee fans. I mean, come on....we need some standards here!:p Red Sox Nation forever. After that, ABY!!!!!

I actually wouldn't mind a six team league....20 league games and 14 non-league would make for some more fun scheduling. Hell, anything would be more fun than playing Brown twice.

Now, be nice........they did admit Tayt and me. I am also proud of the fellow alum.
Great stuff.

Forgetting someone?

Oops......I forgot that you were not a Red Sox fan.

As for the new leagues, I just hope that the smaller schools will still be able to remain competitive but have my doubts. Aka the Yankees, BoSox, Phillies, and far too few others in baseball, it appears that monies will win out.

Re: SLU 2010-2011 - Until Moko Comes Along This Will Have To Do

I hope not: that would be awful.

First, and most importantly, *** is wrong with you guys rooting for the Yankees? I'll give Mike a pass because he roots for a team that was smart enough to leave NYC - the Giants (who until recently were the perfect representation of pathetic). Yankees? YANKEES? They are the picture of what is wrong with pro sports. Overpay! Overbidding on FA's. Fire the classiest manager in baseball in Torre! Arrogant. They suck! PERIOD!!

As for the Baker rumor, it is just that. He is still a Saint and will be back in the fall. People should stop spreading rumors. He is rehabbing a knee injury, is too old to go Junior, is not going pro while recovering from a broken wheel and was not expelled as some rumors say. He is a good kid and a good player and thank God he is coming back to a program that we agree is worthy of our support.

No word on new assistants yet though. I know some people have talked to Joe, but so far nothing.

I love Red Sox fans. They're very predictable. That's why I married one. :)

Good news on Baker!!!!!

As for the Yankees, agreed that they are the picture of what's wrong with sports. Also see Big Ten Hockey, soon to be upon us. But, it's tough to give up a rooting interest that goes back (in my case) over 55 years.

Delighted that Baker is coming back. Spent about 15 minutes with him the night before the game at Brown and was very, very impressed. And, he is a great hockey player to boot.

October is creeping up really fast.

Thanks for the happy intel! Reassuring as Baker seems to have a ton of promise and has a key rookie season at blueline under his belt. Had heard though that it might have been torn patella which is tough rebound.
Saw the Yale hit on him on B2...so I didnt really see it....
As if we need another reason to dislike Yale. They were better than us and likely will be again this year. But the all the whining to the refs and cheap BS in the playoffs. Afraid thats my lingering '10/'11 memory - we were the younger team but they behaved like they were in diapers and moved on with all that talent and immaturity to another remarkable NCAA flame-out.
Getting over it.
Lots to look forward to this season.
Go Saints.

Re: SLU 2010-2011 - Until Moko Comes Along This Will Have To Do

Having summer fun up here in Greece, where I can race my Snipe against my buds on beautiful Irondequoit Bay (the powerboat capital of the US), and have been reading with great interest Red Cloud's promotion (on Without A Peer) of RPI as a candidate for Hockey East. This would certainly impact SLU & the other non-Ivies--and not in a good way, although it might be very good for RPI. Any of you guys hear any more scuttlebutt (got to get in a boat phrase) about this? I am just about ready to predict that our league will look a lot different in 2 years.

Re: SLU 2010-2011 - Until Moko Comes Along This Will Have To Do

Wow, lots of action here today.

Eh, I'll take shots for being a Yankees fan, however I will say it was awesome to be at the game Jeter got his 3kth hit, about 15 rows behind home.

Down just east of NOLA now on my tugboat, absolutely love this job and I'm on a really good boat. Headed up towards Huntsville, AL. I'll be going to whatever games I can when I'm off the boat for sure this season, no matter where they are. I'm on a 28 days on the boat/14 days off, so I'm always guaranteed 2 weekends home. It looks like I'll be home for the start of the season too, which is always fun.

Hope all of you are having good summers so far, scary that we're less than 3 months from the season starting back up.

Re: SLU 2010-2011 - Until Moko Comes Along This Will Have To Do

I'll wager he will!

Here is betting he will take use his gambling winnings to buy juice from A-Roid or some bejeweled gold-digger du jour. With his batting average falling like the temp in International Falls, I am sure he will be looking for a new (or old) edge soon.
