SLU 2009-2010 Season

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Flanagan is going to be done for a while.

That would be very, very, very bad. I know he just got here, I know it's early, and I know I haven't seen SLU play much yet, but I think this is a different team without Flanagan. He's really helped cushion the blow of losing McBride, DeVergilio, Parenteau, and Miskovic. I wonder if McKenzie will have a big bulls-eye on his sweater for a while.

Especially with Cunningham also out. I'm talking with coach Marsh this afternoon and will have a small story up on the blog this evening.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Flanagan out 3 weeks. He could be back a little sooner but the coaches want him to be fully healthy for the clarkson game.

That is the right call. Maine is an NC game so let him rest. We will just have to work harder without him and Cunningham. It would be nice to get J. Keller back as he can score. I would really like to see Carden bust out and start scoring. I think he has what it takes.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Flanagan out 3 weeks.

That's a relief. It's not good, but it's not nearly as bad as it could have been. 3 weeks is manageable, especially at this time of year. Like Got 6 said, the Maine game isn't critical. The Harvard-Dartmouth trip will be tough, but it would have been tough anyway. A big game in net, a timely goal, and who knows . . .

"Senior forward Jeremiah Cunningham fractured one of his ribs, but could be back as early as this weekend, although he will not be skating today in practice."

 Who needs all those ribs anyway?

Yeah, went to practice today and he's unlikely for the weekend. The coaches are preparing as if he will not be ready, which makes Harvard/Dartmouth a couple tough road games.

Flanny was walking around today and seemed to be feeling OK, but they're resting him until the Clarkson series (Not that they'll need him for that considering how Clarkson can't seem to come close to winning).

Also, the latest in the "Get to Know a Saint" series is posted up on the blog. I talked with Drew Weaver this week. It was a pretty funny interview and rivals both Armstrong and Bollig's.

Lastly, I spoke with TSN's Bob McKenzie and about his new book, which he was signing before SLU's game with RPI at Appleton. I'll have a story in Friday's newspaper and on the blog on Friday about it. I'm also working on some pro hockey updates and will have a links round-up from around the ECAC either tomorrow evening or Thursday.

Have a good one guys.

If all goes well I will make the Dartmouth game but not Harvard.

I ordered a copy of Bob's book from Brewer bookstore about a month ago and enjoyed reading it. A "crazy" hockey dad he is indeed. You can read the book and decide for yourself just how crazy!!!!! Lot's of funny stories in there and although I haven't seen Bob since I read the book I'm dying to ask him about the Phil Esposito reference which I guess is an "untold story" he didn't elaborate on.

We are getting lot's of Saint Lawrence mentions on NHL Home Ice on XM radio which I listen to frequently while driving. Bob is on there often and at times they ask him about how Mike and Saint Lawrence is doing. This week after one of his interviews where they didn't ask him about Mike the two mid day announcers went on and on about SLU after he was off the air. One of the announcers (a female) who I guess lives in CT went on to mention that Rand Pecknold is her neighbor. Small world huh. If it was me on the interview I would have said........ "Aw heck, there goes the neighborhood!!" :D

Thanks Dan for all the links, interviews and updates. We miss it when you don't get assigned to the games like last weekend.

Also......for those of you interested in attending the Maine game in Portland I spoke to Brenda today to order a ticket and she doesn't have any tickets for that game......you have to call the Cumberland County Civic Center directly,or, go to the website for the Civic Center and the buy tickets link takes you to Ticketmaster.

Kind of funny mention of Peverley outscoring Sydney Crosby in Sports Illustrated: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/michael_farber/11/17/biggest.surprises/

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Since Flanagan is definitely out and Cunningham questionable, we will need some solid goaltending this weekend to get some points on the road. This raises the question of who will be in net? I think Tisi deserves a shot at starting this weekend after his performance in relief against Union and the win against RPI.

Thoughts/Predictions?

Well, the Saints are 2-2-0 so far this year when I pick them to lose, but 3-1-1 when I pick a win. Take that for what it's worth, I suppose! :)

I like the way you think!

Personally, I will be happy with any points on the weekend. As usual, anything's possible, from 0 to 4.

Let's Go Saints!!

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Cunningham officially out, J. Keller unofficially returning (unconfirmed as per Casstle blog.) Bogo possibly moving up to top line for the weekend according to Prier.

Hoping for some points on what, on paper, appears to be an uncharacteristically underachieving Harvard and Dartmouth road trip.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Pretty good game tonight. Good defense, tight game. Easily one of the best games I have seen Petizian play. He was great all night. He made some great saves and was the difference tonight. Other people that played really well are D.Keller, Caister, Alex Curran and I think a few other guys were really effective tonight such as J. Keller and Bogosian.

The officiating was scary it was so bad. The call on D. Keller in the second was an absolute joke. He didn't even touch the guy as he dove in the net and he gets called. Then the scrum in the third starts because LeBlanc doesn't let up going to the net and Harvard guys are throwing and not only do we get the penalty but we throw Curran out to kill the penalty and the linesman decides it was Curran who was in the scrum when he wasn't even on the ice. So, they take on of our best penalty killers who wasn't on the ice and send him to the box. What an abomination!!

Nice goals from Hughes and Child. Great screening by Bollig on the first and second goals. It was a good close game. Shots weren't that uneven...I think their shot keeper may be on drugs. It was a good win and a hard earned win.

Final thought, man is Alex Biega overrated. Didn't he make one of the ECAC teams last year?? And Fensel didn't??? I wouldn't even let Biega carry Fensel's gear to the bus. Anyway.

Good win...on to Hanover

Im a little worried about flannys shoulder injury, he said he had a separated shoulder. I mean i hope when he comes back that it doesnt bother him. Having two bad shoulders of my own and being his age, i know how easy it is to re hurt your shoulder.

I also found a really intresting forum about Student section profanity, they said SLU in there arena are a bunch of locals that are drunk dropping the F-bomb. Here is the Link

Good win!
Only saw 3rd
Thought frosh #20 on D looked confident and even a little dynamic.
Was that Dyer's first action?

Not his first action. He had one or two scary moments actually but all the Defense played well....particularly Petezian and the Seniors.

Shoulders are tough. Depending on the grade of injury than can keep occurring and surgery doesn't always help. But SLU has very good training staff and others such as Dan Coughlin returned from bad shoulders and surgery if it comes to that. Just hope for the best I guess.

As for the F-Bomb from any section in Appleton....who cares??!! With ECAC officiating I can see why use of that word has proliferated!:D Actually, I have almost never heard that over in the student section corner and even if I did, it doesn't bother me. It is hockey....you go to the game to have fun and yell and maybe even be a bit drunk, not to drink tea with your pinky sticking out. I personally measure fans by the noise they make to get the home team going, not on their use of profanity.
