Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

There was a minor ammonia leak at Appleton today, evacuating the building. Turns out it was from the compressors, and it isn't supposed to be a major problem.

Something tells me this was a Clarkson conspiracy to try to force Appleton into submission, thereby causing the games to be moved to the Canton Pavilion, or over to Cheel, with SLU being the home team. :p

Thanks for sharing the building's weakness, I'll have the Clarkson guys get right on that.

Unfortunately, with the SLU students on spring break starting Friday, it's very likely to feel like a home atmosphere for Clarkson anyways.

Tisi or Petizian in net tomorrow?

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

TimU.......I think our meet and greet might have to wait until Sat. night. Lets meet up at Appleton tomorrow night or something.
Got 6 should recognize me by now.....

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

OK, sounds good. Look for Got 6 - I'll be catching up with him at some point before or during the game.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Got6

One of the refs tonight is Chip McDonald. Saw him last night @ the Salem St. - Plymouth St. MASCAC semi. Don't know who the other one is. He called a very good game (saw through the bullpoop a number of times and made the right call).

I can't wish you guys luck, but hope it is a good series. May the better team win!

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Well, here we go. It is Put Up or Shut Up time of the year. I love the playoffs (the short season), it is Win or Go Home. It has been tough following the Saints over the past couple of weeks since I have been between Italy and Coaching at States for skiing, but I guess I didn't miss much. It was disappointing that we couldn't secure a 4th seed in the tournament, but who know, maybe we are better off not taking 2 weeks between games. I like our team and the way they play. We are tough nosed and gritty, especially in the corners. Our penalty kill does a nice job and is capable of popping in a few short-handed goals. We should relish the opportunity to face our arch rival in the playoffs. I hope the Saints iron out their struggles and gather a couple wins to build momentum into the playoffs. Wish I could be there, but GO Saints Go!

Well, Chip should be a good ref....he is the nephew of the greatest ref ever named Paul Stewart. If you don't believe me, just as Paul Stewart!

I seem to recall that the win at Cheel this year had Moss in net. I wouldn't rule that out. I am putting my guess on Tisi. He was a playoff stud at St. Mikes. But, who knows!

Tim, should we plan to meet up somewhere before the game to do the whole ticket exchange. My flight gets into Syracuse just after 2 and then I will head up. I need to drive slow and not get pulled over because I used all my luck dodging a speeding ticket last year going to Albany!

Is Mike P going to make it?

I got a request from a certified Saint fan for both my extras, and we'll be meeting before the game - probably right at Appleton, because I'm going to be cutting it close on the timing. My goal is to be at the rink by 6:30. I'll e-mail you my cell number in a bit so we can find one another.

Mike had to work in NJ this morning  , but I think he's planning to escape at the earliest possible moment and attempt to make it for game time tonight. I'm sure we'll see him at some point.

See you over there - have a safe trip.

Other ref tonight is, who else, MURPHY!

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Chip MacDonald is a good ref. Murphy, Oh My ! I hope we can Keep him out of Starr Rink next weekend.
He seriously follows one of our players around the rink for the whole time he is on the Ice.
Good Luck against Clarkson tonight. I think your team, while slipping in the last few weeks, has a lot of up-side. We did not have any success against your team this year, and your goaltending was outstanding.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

It took OT, but Cluck Farkson:D

Looked like SLU outplayed Clarkson for the majority of the game, and from what I heard, both Clarkson goals weren't real nice, and Alex probably wants both back.

Maybe so, but it was pretty even in overtime until the last minute or so before SLU scored. When Beca rang the post, I realized we were not going to win tonight - thus is the Clarkson season.

Here's hoping for a game 3.

With all due respect we each view our team through the proverbial "rose colored glasses".........having said that, where you at the game??? I was and if it wasn't for Karpowich playing out of his mind the score easily could have been 10-2.

SLU posessed the puck for the majority of the overtime and other than a couple of brief forays Clarkson made to the SLU end, and the Beca shot you referred to, it was entirely SLU. I do have to admit that Beca puck that hit the post and got behind Petezian nearly gave us all a heart attack. We were down the other end and it almost looked like it went from post to post and out. Had that gone in........it certainly would have been a heart breaking loss for us and certainly not a deserving win for the Knights. SLU outshot Clarkson 27-7 over the second and third periods and we totally dominated the game except for the second half of the first period where Clarkson picked up the pace and carried most of the play.

It's too late to write much more but I can say that Murphy was absolutely atrocious. Mike McKenzie showed great restraint tonight as on numerous occasions he was mugged. In the second and in particularly in the third Murphy let 3-4 obvious interference, holding, tripping penalties go and then calls Carden for an elbow at center ice.

I'll post more tomorrow morning but the game was way too close for comfort when SLU was getting chance after chance, controlling the play and puck and had relatively little to show for it.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Mike, congrats on bringing home the win last night. I did not hear the game, but was happy when I say the score! So how did Petezian look between the pipes last night? Will we see him again or will it be Tisi?

I wasn't there, I was watching it on b2tv. I'll admit I was fairly distracted during the game so while I definitely noticed that SLU carried the majority of the play in regulation, I noticed a little less of that in overtime and quite a few strong Knights rushes.

No argument about the refs, they were terrible each way.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

The team all played great position hockey , controlled the ten feet each side of both blue lines and fore-checked the best of any of the games I have seen this year. do the same tonight and we should be ok. I am thinking the knights will come out hitting.

Alex made some big saves but the goals were down the other end from us so I really can't comment on them. I did hear from others at the game that he might like to have at least one of them back......but hey, that happens.

After the first period was over.......they announced Clarkson had I think 12 SOG. I was sort of shocked by that as it sure didn't feel/seem like it. However some people sitting down that end commented he made some nice saves.
I'm thinking/guessing he has no choice but to go back with Alex tonight. I also heard part of the decision making to start him had to do with his track record against the Knights.

Should we lose tonight (heaven forbid) depending on how, I could foresee a change but I'm thinking it's Alex all the way at this point.

Some more thoughts on the game.........we arguably had the best lineup on the ice we have had all season long. Having Child back really makes the "D" corps look a lot more solid and makes all three pairings much more equal. Besides the usual reliable stuff from Caister, Keller (who had some nice rushes as well) and Hughes........Child has some nice SOG and to me it appeared Dewey really has stepped up his play and has a lot more confidence. Raley seems much more comofortable too with the pairings the way they are.

I was really pleased with the energy of all 4 lines. Our 4th line even had periods of good puck pressure and posession in the Clarkson end and some scoring opportunities. Although some people are still not 100%....we are as healthy as we have been all year and there are no excuses for us as we have our best potential players out on the ice and in the line up.

As I said last night McKenzie deserves a good behavior medal of honor for composure above and beyond. Towards the end of the game he got dragged down, had a Clarkson player on top of him, roughing him and working him over with his stick and Murphy didn't call a thing........AND THE BEST part, Mike didn't retaliate. Maturity and leadership!!!!

Man did we have chance after chance. Tips, defelections, hard shots from the point. Karpowich came up big or else it could have been a much different score.

I'm sure the Knights will come out with more intensity tonight but we do appear to be more talented and the better team. We just have to play like that and put out the effort and I'll take the results whatever they may be.

The only negative of the night was the fact the students weren't there. Frankly it was the least electric atmosphere I have ever experienced at a Clarkson/SLU game. I know we don't sell those student seats (probably for fear they would be scooped up by Clarkson fans) but I'm so used to seeing the place jammed and noisy and it wasn't anything close to that with the students not there.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

First, had SLU lost that game which can always happen in sudden death it would have been a tragic outcome. From the start of the 2nd on, SLU was the dominant team. I would bet attempted shots were more like three or four to one. SLU was shooting the puck a lot and was easily beating the trap that Clarkson was playing all night. Clarkson was also hanging forwards high to try to get the home run and to take our point men out of the play. That also didn't work. To call that even is not correct. SLU drastically outplayed them, especially after the first 20 minutes.

McKenzie was very good and was absolutely possessed on the last shift when we won. He was determined to end it there and he certainly helped make that happen. Both McKenzie and Flanagan were wearing Clarkson players all night, and not necessarily within the rules I might add. On the last shift, Beca cross checked him twice, punched him once and tripped him very blatantly going to the net. Nice job by Mike to play through that and to not retaliate. Honestly, after we scored in OT and Mike was cross-checked again, I would have gotten up and pummeled Beca. Rnough is enough!!

I thought by the end of the game everyone from SLU had played well. One line had some rough spots, but played well in the 3rd. I thought Dewey played great. Child had some great plays. Up front, the line of Bogo-Bollig and Flanagan was very good and made some nice plays. Curran is such an important part of this team. His ability to forecheck and possess the puck is just unreal. Must admit I am a bit surprised that Flanny and McKenzie aren't on the same PP with their ability to make plays, but it is working well enough as is.

Good job by the Saints. Closer than I would like but but the right outcome.

I am not going to gripe about the officiating. Bottom line is they erred on letting them play as opposed to calling everything or calling things totally inconsistently. It was not great officiating but about as good as you can expect in the ECAC. The one nitpick is that they called Carden for something they could have easily called Clarkson for 4 times in the previous two shifts to the penalty alone. But whatever! I just hope that it doesn't get dirty when it is obvious that one teams season is going to end. Watching Beca in OT, I certainly have no faith that he will show restraint. The linesmen on the other hand were clueless. The missed so many icings and off-sides I lost count. One play, Petizian was covering the corner of the net to make sure an icing was not on net which it wasn't....it didn't touch him or his stick and went behind the net and the linesmen 40 feet away who didn't have the angle waved it off. Absolute joke!

*** happened in Troy and Princeton?????
