Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

But I expect the players won't share my attitude. They're a better team than Clarkson this year, and don't have a 25-year history to fret over.

And last but not least, it was great to see the women beat Clarkson at Cheel yesterday. Way to go, Chris. Do it again today.
(a) If we don't run into the Buzzer saw, it's going 3.
(b) Not your year, maybe ours. But congrats to Kingsbury winning the gold.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

[QUOTE Ending a career in Starr Rink is about as depressing as finding out your job just got relocated to downtown Detroit, so we can't let that happen!;)

Your main goal should to be first win the series. Then, you should be glad to play anywhere, with a shot to go to the ECAC final.
The Colgate campus is beautiful, and while you may not love the Arena, should you win your series, how do you not Let it Happen. ?[/QUOTE]

Everytime I go to Starr I think of the movie Slapshot and that wacky music they play when the Gears score a goal.

Good luck Saints this weekend!

Never said Colgate isn't a fine school with a beautiful campus. The rink on the other hand is the worst in the league IMHO and that says something because Union has bleachers, and Brown is always about 32 degrees and empty, but Starr is a combination of all three.

Thanks for pointing out the obvious about the task at hand for SLU. If the team looks past Clarkson our season will end next week. We probably wouldn't have been able to put it all together without your insightful comments!

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

I bought 4 tickets for Friday and Saturday. I'd be willing to trade a couple for a bed on Friday night. :D

We are proud of the rink, its history, and its program. I have been to Appleton, and while I enjoy the history and tradition it offers, frankly, I enjoy both places to watch hockey.
Based on your opinions, I have no idea how we can possibly bring in recruits.
What does stand out, is the consistent sarcasim.
Good luck against Clarkson.

Hey Tim,

Not sure what room type I have reserved at the BW, but if I have 2 double beds you are more than welcome to one of them.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Sorry for not posting of late but my PC at home $hit the bed a few weeks ago, So, am "cheating" and sneaking in a quick post from work now.

Same deal now - my home PC is still in the tank.

Am still "celebrating," despite the USA loss, the game played yesterday. Both teams showcased to the entire world the game at its best and the way it's meant to be played.

Will be back posting regularly once my home PC is back in order.

GO SAINTS.

Rest assured, you have lost several very good recruits on the basis of the rink alone that I am personally aware of. It is a liability to a program at an otherwise very good school with a great coach who is a great guy. Speaking for myself, I would actually really struggle choosing to play 4 years in that rink if I had other offers.

You are not going to convince very many fans of other schools how great Starr is, because it isn't a very nice facility. I always look forward to going to Dartmouth or Yale or SLU because of the rinks. Starr is either dead last or nearly that for me in the league.

Enjoy the week off. Wish it was us with the bye and 'gate headed north in two weeks.

I am only going to post this once, and am not trying to **** anyone off, BUT....

I actually thought USA was the better team yesterday. I only saw the first two periods before I had to get on my flight, but USA was moving the puck well, skating well, hitting well and looked like the better team (by a VERY small margin). Unlike the first USA-Canada game where they dominated us, this was about as even as it gets. I also don't know what is up with not having 'neutral' refs. McCreary is Canadian unless I am mistaken, and I don't get that. There were a lot of hits from behind on Canada that were not called. I counted 2-3 just in the first few minutes. Canadians did not have position and made the hit anyway.

Anyway, I was really proud of the effort and the game the USA brought. That was good hockey. The Canadians have to know this could have so easily gone the other way in the blink of an eye! Having said that, there are some players for Canada that I just don't and won't ever like....namely Boyle and Nash. I don't care what Semin did to Boyle, I don't know how you don't get penalized / suspended for slew-footing the way Boyle did. Liked the USA speed and youth. Looking forward to the next event where there will likely be a Bogo in the lineup. However, what the hell was the IOC thinking putting the Olympics in Sochi, Russia?? Was Antartica booked??

Maybe what pleased me most is how many great players were on the ice for both teams that came from NCAA hockey.

I feel for the Americans. So close!!! Still a lot to be proud of. They still finished the Olympics with the best win-loss record!

Tim and Got 6........glad to hear you guys will coming into town this weekend. We have our tickets ready to go as well. Perhaps we can all have a pre-game gathering...BW or somewhere else?

Yeah, I think there were four or five times in the game when a US player had the puck against the boards in Canada's end, and a Canadian player just skated up behind him and flattened him with a two-hander across the shoulder blades. I remember saying "Cross check" the first time it happened, and wondering why there was no call. In the third period I said to my father "Sooner or later they HAVE to call one of those." But they never did.

Still, it was a GREAT game, and I can't get too down about losing the championship game in OT to that team, on a nice setup, tough luck on the deflection by the defense, and such an unbelievably quick release by Crosby. Wow. And it's not like Canada had a bad night or got robbed by goaltending alone: they had to play great just to have the opportunity to win in overtime, and one tiny bounce could have won it for the US. That was a very fun game, start to finish.

And I agree on Boyle. It was actually kind of cool watching the Canadian players receive their medals in front of their home crowd . . . except for him.

Sounds good to me. Name the place.

No, my Vermont colors don't follow me to Canton. Scarlet and Brown through and through. :)

And if my 12-year-old comes with me, I'll make him leave his Dartmouth and UVM sweatshirts in the drawer. ;)

That's solid parenting right there....:)

FYI, the rumored trip to Michigan Tech in the coming season is a for sure go. The date is still being "hammered out".

I have flights, rental car and hotel, but no tickets yet. If I can't get tickets, wouldn't that be a sad situation. I am confident Brenda will come through for me, but so far no response to my emails!

Plan B is beating up some Clarkson student in the parking lot and stealing his ticket.:D

I was actually shocked they didn't call a single one of those. Glad I wasn't the only one who saw that exact thing. Those were some pretty violent HFB's!! It is not like the US Players ever saw them coming. The US did get even on one though by cross-checking someone from behind into the crossbar during a goal mouth scrum. Also, Sidney didn't slow down at the end of the period coming across the blue line so Jack Johnson dropped him like a sack of bricks....don't know why Sidney didn't curl.

I just get the sense that Boyle and Nash are incredibly arrogant. Not a big fan of Pronger either for the same reason. It is pretty hard to replicate the class of Lemieux and Gretzky from years past...I am pretty certain those guys will never do it.

...and to think we were one bounce away from destroying the psyche of an entire country!!;)

Don't let me stop you from beating up a Clarkson student, but don't bother with the tickets. I've got you covered.

What are the NYS laws on scalping these days, anyway? :p ;)

No really, if I manage to score tickets, there is no way I'm selling one.
