Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

I went to RPI's Legends of '85 press conference this afternoon. Joe Marsh is a class act, and I hope that you do well for the rest of the season (barring tonight, of course).

It's very hard not to like Joe Marsh!!

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Would've been nice to get a win, but that was a quality point on the road. That looked like a fun game to watch in person.

Way to go Saints. Get another point or two tomorrow.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Who was the little kid that did the ceremonial puck drop? That was pretty cute.

Tim, the girl who dropped the puck was Hannah of Hannah's Hope Fund. She has GAN (Giant Axonal Neuropathy) and there were many events throughout the game that were geared towards raising money for her fund, including ticket sales, chuck-a-puck and Mites players going through the stands.

In response to your most recent post... yes, the game was very exciting to watch in person. We RPI fans are very high on D'Amigo and don't like hits directed at him, hence the outcry / profanity of fans after Curran's hit and the matching minors for the hook / dive.

No big deal. D'Amigo decked Curran, Curran went for the payback hit. Guys were looking out for each other. It was a close, intense game. I'm glad everybody gets to play tomorrow. D'Amigo is a special player.

SlU has a good club and your captain is a little dynamo but make no mistake they ran D`amigo all night and the big hit from behind late in the 3rd desrved a 5min major. Ruined an otherwise very good game. I Lost some respect for Marsh tonight with the constant runs on D`amigo it was no doubt his doing. That is the kind of coaching I expect from some of the other coaches but he stooped to a new low.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Memo to jstadts: you might want to reconsider your last 2 sentences.

I really take exception to this. D'Amigo was diving ALL night. He finally got called for it at the end. That was not a vicious hit by Curran and anyone who knows Curran knows the kid is about as honest a player as there is in the league. Curran's hit was certainly no worse than Malchuk's hit about 3 seconds late from behind on Caister. RPI was given a golden chance to win the game with a PP with less than 5 to go. At the same time, McKenzie was flat out tackled in the 3rd and would have had a breakaway (where he is deadly) and no call. D'Amigo is a skilled player but if he is going to dive like that, I certainly would reconsider you statements.

I second all the emotions here expressed by Tim U, Got 6, Apple2K and Burgie12...........if you think for a moment Joe Marsh would ever tell his team to be running at D'Amigo you are sorely mistaken. There is no coach in the ECAC let alone the whole NCAA that is a better sport than Joe Marsh.

It is also true what Got6 said about Curran. He is a tough hard nosed player but certainly not dirty. I guess when we fans get passionate about our teams and players we all at times say things we might regret or are over the top. From my side of the fence I didn't see anyone "running D'Amigo" and certainly not all night. The kid is a very gifted player...and no different than McKenzie on numerous plays... if you are going to try and carry the puck through and around players into the offensive zone....those players are going to do their job and knock him off the puck (and if they didn't they would look silly getting undressed by letting him deke around them). How many times did McKenzie get kocked on his butt (and once tackled) carrying the puck into the RPI zone?? No different than what SLU did to D'Amigo or any other RPI forward on the rush.

Your team is very skilled......has loads of talent and some scary players. Polacek looks like he is shot out of a cannon at times and with some of the freshman you have the future looks bright.

Good luck the rest of the way......but again.....you are way off base in your comments.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

On a more light and interesting note.......

Did anyone look at the Ylae box score????

They go down 2-0 to Dartmouth and out shoot them for the game 51-27. When they are down 2-0 Ylae scores an unassisted shortie, then a penalty shot!!! to tie, then two PPG's to win 4-2. Not often you see a shortie and a penalty shot bring a team back from a two goal margin.

If Ylae ever finds a way to keep the puck out of their own net they will be scary.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

D`amigo is NOT a DIver. The hits on D`amoigo are constantly from behind and the kid that crushed him from behind came from the middle of the ice to do it. It SHOULD HAVE BEEN A 5MIN MAJOR. As for joe Marsh being a saint give me a break, I know the Augie Dmarzo story. if you think someone that gives a scumbag like him a second chance is beyond question than you are looking at him though scarlet colored glasses.

Alright someone apologize to jstadts that his son/brother got hit a couple times last night. I don't ever care to hear this idiot say another word about Joe because I'm about to find a a way to punch him through my computer.

RPI fans are great, passionate fans but too bad jstadts is making every effort to drag RPI fans through the mud here. Stay classy.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Dear saints fans. I have been going to college hockey games since 1972. I Have a good eye for when an opposing team is trying to hurt an opponet. Sadly I have suspected it was given by a few times by RPI coaches over the years. It has been going on with D`amigo since about the 7th game of the year.Your coach is one of the classier ones in the league but make no mistake the crush # 9 whenever & however you can order was given or implied.

OK.......let's be fair then. If the hit on D'Amigo (which was a clear penalty, no argument there) deserved a 5 minute major.......then the hit Malchuk made on Caister from behind right in front of our bench which left Caister in a heap on the ice was every bit as bad (if not worse) and deserved the same 5 minutes. But that penalty was only two minutes. Caister is just as valuable to our team as D'Amigo is to yours perhaps even more so as we are so thin on defense.

Hey....I can somewhat understand your frustration but it sounds like you are taking a seasons worth of hits from other teams on your star player and blaming them all on us and our coach. No player deserves to be hit from behind, especially near the boards and in both cases the same 2 minutes was called.

If my fellow brethren want to get their blood boiling even further.....check out the game article in the Times Union Newspaper..... the whole darn article is about the one hit/incident (unlike every other game recap I read that didn't even mention it and talked about a good hockey game).

Again...I can understand the frustration on the part of RPI fans and it was a penalty but no more egregious than the hit on Caister that got the same two minutes. I have a suggestion for RPI fans on how to solve the situation. Why don't you have a special practice jersey pinney made up for your special players to wear during the games so just like a quarterback we'll know which players we aren't allowed to hit during the game??!!!!

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Second memo: you're lucky Red Cloud backs YOUR team.

Red Cloud is an independent equal opportunity poster from what I can read on here. The poster challenges everyone's position if it doesn't make sense or you just sound stupid saying it, even if you're an RPI or St. Cloud fan. Think along the lines of Michael Savage, if you listen to or have been enriched with that brand of talk radio.

A pretty fair post. I have no problem with hard clean hits on any player. D`amigo tried to split the slu D 3-4 times and got crushed for the effort. I have no problem with that. The hits from behind make my blood boil no matter which team is giving them. When the replay of the game is up I will take a look at the RPI hit on the SLU player you are referring to. I honesly only saw the fall out of it live.

As got six has penned a million words about 90% of the crap that goes on has to do with officiating. Last year if you touched a guy within 10 feet of the boards it was a 5 and a DQ .This year if the kid isin`t taken off the ice immobilized on a stretcher it is a 2 for boarding. My son played hockey and I had to tell him no more at the age of 12 because I didn`t want to see him in a wheelchair. The hits from behind have GOT to be stopped.

I'm sorry I started this discussion. I just wanted to say that the game was fun, exciting, and spirited.

I did not see the hit lad on Caister. I did see him lying on the ice and am glad that he was able to get back up and on the ice.

Hey....I can somewhat understand your frustration but it sounds like you are taking a seasons worth of hits from other teams on your star player and blaming them all on us and our coach.

You're absolutely correct. I don't think that Marsh was at fault. In fact, it was D'Amigo going on a rampage and hitting everything that moved that caused Curran's hit.

The Albany T-U is a useless rag. The beat writer for RPI and Union is an off-season horse racing writer. I would put a lot more stock in the articles written by Weaver and Schott.

To get away from this topic, I met hockeyplayer1015. Nice guy. And, very knowledgeable about the team, even though he doesn't get to see them play often. I hope that he enjoyed the HFH experience.

Re: SLU 2009-2010 Season

Well, all I can say is watch the game again and take off the RPI red glasses. I watched the tape and counted six clear dives by D'Amigo. A scout staying at the Marriott was laughing at how bad it was calling him Dive'Amigo. Take all the shots you want at Marsh and Curran...they are two quality guys and approach the sport with amazing honesty and integrity. Watch Curran hit D'Amigo....Jerry sees him coming and jumps into the boards to embellish it. Curran got speared on the play which is also clear and that is a no room for judgement 5 and DQ assuming the ref sees it. I can take only so much and then I call BS. There was a 5 Min Major on the play but it was the spear by RPI. And this game was no different than the game at Appleton except the other way. At Appleton Brutlag was given a bogus penalty, SLU scored and won the game. That play 3:30 to go gave RPI the PP...they had every chance to win it.

The article in the Times Union was laughable. First, I saw Bollig fight in junior...he is one of the best fighters I have seen. His nickname of "the dentist" comes honestly. I don't thing Burgdorfer really wanted to drop them with Bollig and I am glad they didn't because we need Bollig in the lineup.

As I said D'Amigo is a gifted player...no one disputes that. After last night I liked Pirri a lot more than D'Amigo. Pirri is a much more honest player.

Sorry, I just disagree with your assessment. Overall it was a pretty good game. Our leading scorer has been out for the last month after a blatant kneeing by a Cornell player that wasn't even called. Try not to hang your hat on what ECAC refs call and don't call. Litterio was reffing in a midget tournement a few weeks ago and should stick to that. D'Amigo will get a reputation if he continues to embellish the way he did last night, and in a game like tonight where I am not sure some of the Clarkson players really give a crap anymore...well, it could get ugly. Bottom line, Joe Marsh's teams have faced much better players than D'Amigo over the years and they have never run at players.

I wish RPI the best the rest of the way....they do have some fun, young talent and it was a pretty good game...but lets not get carried away. The hit on Caister was the ugliest hit of the game.

I didn't have the benefit of replays or watching the tape as I was watching live just like you were. However a friend who watched the game last night e-mailed me and said that Curran's hit on D'Amigo was a retaliation immediately after D'Amigo smoked Curran behind the net.

Actually my biggest disappointment in reading the article was on the front of the sports page there was a teaser about RPI honoring the 85 championship team and it said.....more info inside. I looked "inside" and the only info was the picture with the article and no other mention. If you know where I can read more about it and that team let me know as I'd like to read it.

Then you were the guy with the RPI jersey on talking to Brandon before the game??? The rest of our crew was sitting right a long side him or behind him.
