Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

This should be a great series, I watched the SUE vs scsu this past weekend and the SUE looked pretty good. I know they havent had the best start but the top line looks pretty darn good, and Rocco was flyin around the rink. I would have to say a SPLIT for my prediction for the weekend.

I think we will learn alot about the GOPHERS this weekend!

GO GOPHERS!!!!!!!

This weekend and next weekend in Madison will both be tough series..

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

i gotta say the guys on GPL are doing a great job with that.. nice to have some additional college hockey coverage. cardinal and hammy offer a lot of really solid insight and "jupiter" is warming up to the mic haha.

All I know is Hammy is always spot on with his info.. Wherever he gets it...

Typical Mankato student...absolutely clueless...

:D

Hey hey now..;)

soh, maybe I'm biased, because I hate the Gophers, but I don't see as many Gopher hats, jerseys, shirts etc as I would expect from such a large fan base in their own backyard. Who cares if the team isn't there, go and watch the best college hockey in the country. I do also understand the economy sucks as of now, and it's not as easy as it sounds.:p

Not to mention the majority of Gopher fans I know/have sat by, etc, not including members of this board, knew very limited hockey knowledge, but act as though they were the biggest fans in the world.

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

To be fair, I attended the last F5 in a Seawolves jersey and fooled a couple UND hookers and an MSU-M fan into thinking I was from Alaska.

Then that same poor b*stard MSU-M fan saw me in a Tech jersey the next night, and his world was shattered (poor ****er was apoplectic). :D

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

Don't even start with the hockey knowledge bit. I went many a game in the Cell.

My cousin played for MSU-M, so I went to quite a few of his games in Mankato, and traveled to watch not only him, but the Gophers, play on the road. IMHO, no fan base in the WCHA comes close to traveling as well as Gopher fans except for UND fans. And that's pretty close.

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

Agree. From what I have heard the Gophers and UND will likely play each other two maybe three times a decade.

I would have agreed, but that article posted earlier in this thread certainly seems like the two sides are going to try to play every year (2 for 2s)...at least initially. Apparently a lot of that will depend on how many conference games the National has.

In Colorado it is not even close. No fan base travels out to Denver and CC as well as North Dakota. Minnesota and Wisconsin are a distant second. I can't speak for other areas, as I have only seen North Dakota games in those areas. I would imagine SCSU, Mankato and Wisconsin would see larger Gopher contingents than Sioux, largely due to proximity. I've never been to a SCSU-Minnesota, Mankato-Minnesota or Wisconsin-Minnesota game, so that is just a pure guess.

The Sue do travel better to Colorado, but I believe Gopher fans travel better to Houghton and Madison (from what I've seen). Madison is pretty close. However, recently I think Sue fans have been traveling better everywhere. I don't expect that to stay that way long-term though.

Interesting. When fans of schools like SCSU come back home to MPLS many of them stop following the Huskies and get back on the Gophers bandwagon. Why is that?
I don't know of any. So you will have to ask some of the "many" that you supposedly are familiar with and ask them.

I agree Tipsy. I can not think of a single individual Husky fan that would match that description. I find this claim hard to believe.

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

Yes! Keep it up rodents. I can not wait to serve you gourmet crow!

It's great that the Gophers are back on track. A victory over UM will actually be worth celebrating again. Mike G is the man!

Yeah Gopher fans know so little about the sport, definately much less than Mavs fans...
