Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

Dear Sue and Gophers,

Please tie both games.

sincerely,

Biddco

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

Can you explain offsides and icing to me Mariucci. And why is it that Badger fans chant this "Sieve" word after every goal, even empty net goals?

I think that Mavs poster should really sit down in a quiet room and think about that post, really give it some deep uninterupted thought. If that doesn't work, seek professional help. Adult supervision may be required from here on out.

It does make one wonder.

Ok, now that all the pleasantries are out of the way, what do people see as the keys to the game(s) for both the Gophers and the Sioux?

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

If UND fans are focusing this much on attendance perhaps they're worried about this weekend? ;)

UND fans are not focusing on attendance, JDUBBS brought up empty seats about ten pages ago and started this dumpster fire. He-haw donkey, he-haw.

Defense: UND's forwards have lacked in supporting defenseman in their own zone as well as the defense trying to make up for that lack of support by running around a bit.

Offense: It would be great to see UND's forwards (minus the 1st line and Rodwell) attempt a forecheck that has urgency and effort.

Goaltending: Not great right now but nowhere near Alex Kangas-ville.

Special teams: The PK is not what it used to be but the PP is looking much better since the ice breaker.

Gophers?

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

Goodness, this thread turned into a whole bunch of suckage. I'm sad that I will never get the moments back that I spent reading pages 15-21. What a yawner....

Defense: Don't make it easy for UND to gain the zone. It's a big sheet of ice and the Gophers have to eliminate time and space for guys like Kristo and Grimaldi. The Gophers defense has had problems breaking the puck out in the face of an aggressive forecheck. This has gotten better the past few games, but we can't afford to turn the puck over in our end.

Offense: Get the big bodies in front of the net. Make North Dakota's defensemen skate. I think scoring depth is where Minnesota has it's biggest advantage. We need to stay out of the box so that we can use it. No turnovers entering the offensive zone. Need to minimize the odd-man rushes.

Goaltending: Patterson needs to have two solid games and cover up any mistakes made by our young defensemen.

Special teams: No retaliatory penalties. Stay out of the box and put the best power play in the nation to work.

While Mankato fans do finish in hockey knowledge in the same position among WCHA fanbases as where their team will finish the WCHA standings this year, I think there's nothing wrong with Sieving after an empty net goal. How many times does a team pull their goalie and get scored on an empty netter when their squad hasn't given up a goal to that point? The goalie gave up a goal, probably several, to put their team in a position to lose. A sieve is a sieve whether in between the pipes or sitting on the bench watching his empty net get scored on (just ask DU after Friday night)

I understand what you're saying, but here is my point. If you are going to do the chant after every goal, then it makes absolutely no sense to do it after an empty net goal. If you only do it when a goalie gets pulled, for instance, and then happen to do it after an empty net goal to ice the game, then it would be more understandable.

But doing it after each and every goal, and then continuing to do it even after the goalie has been pulled and a goal is scored, makes zero sense to me.

Also: Set the tone early at home - establish dominance and get the early lead. North Dakota has traditionally been a tough team to come from behind against.

That's why you do what I do and sieve the goalie on the bench.
