Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

Yeah poor Rocco and Bucky...those drunken sconnies f..k a few dozen dead deer and they're labeled for life, harsh.

Glad I wasn't drinking my coffee when I read that!!

People need to learn to let go of the past eh

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

Can you promise that outcome? :D

Of course not. I do think it is likely. FWIW, there are about four guys who run the site, and they try to come to a consensus on their predictions. They sometimes ask my input, and did for that series. I told them I thought Minnesota would probably take 3-4 points on the weekend, but that North Dakota could very well steal a game.

I handle the voting for the weekly poll, and also contribute to determine who the Team of the Week is, and obviously my Greatest Program List and Greatest Team List. I would like to have a weekly column as well, but as to this point in time, they don't have the funds to pay me. I do notice that they did put a paypal donate button on the site to try and avoid ads and generate some revenue, so if you want to help those guys out that is probably the best way to do so at this point in time.

Cool deal. FYI.. I was only joking about the guarantee. I predicted a split earlier in this thread and I'm going to stand by that. :)

I liked the props given to the rivalry.. Not sure how any college hockey fan/writer etc (and they're out there) could not say this rivalry isn't one of if not thee best in college hockey.. BC/BU or UND/UM 1A-1B pending which fanbase you belong to..

Its not even Minnesota's biggest rival. UND might argue the same.

In regards to the history of college hockey, it's tough to argue that UND-Minnesota are not each other's biggest rivals. If you want to discuss current biggest rivals that could be a different story.

Not exactly sure what you're saying.. But the Gophs/Sioux rivalry is the biggest rivalry, BC/BU fans would understandably disagree. You're not thinking the force fed Badger rivalry is bigger are you? I'd disagree with that.

EDIT: It will definately take on an entirely different opinion soon tho with the conference changes.

It won't be once the conference shift happens. And good riddance as far as I'm concerned.

Apparently it doesn't matter what I think. You seem to be the authority on this topic. I'm sure you can supply more then anecdotal evidence and personal opinion in defending your position that UND/MN is in the top 2 rivalries.

Which also seemingly leaves out MSU/UM. They have been tied together for the entirety of their hockey history.

The rivalries are ever-evolving. In the 1940's and 50's, I'd say it was Michigan. We weren't anyone's rival for much of the 1960's, and Mariucci refused to play Denver (arguably the strongest program of that decade). In the early 1970's, I'd say it was Tech. Late 1970's, probably Wisconsin. The 1980's is when the North Dakota rivalry started intensifying, and they and Wisconsin were our biggest rivals that decade. In the 1990's, I feel like the Wisconsin rivalry started to cool, while the North Dakota rivalry continued to intensify. Michigan also reemerged that decade, and we lost to them in the playoffs a few times (which somewhat reignited that rivalry).

But recently, at least as far as I am concerned, North Dakota has been our biggest rival, and the Wisconsin rivalry has started to feel a bit force fed. That will probably change with the conference realignment, but right now there is no team I hate more than North Dakota.

I've just learned to tune the n00bs out in this thread...

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

Currently, I would agree.

UND's all-time biggest rivalry is without question Minnesota. I would guess that the majority of Sioux fans would say the same. As for Minnesota's opinion of their biggest all-time rival, I'd have to imagine it would be split between UND and Wisconsin.

As far as current rivalry, for me, the biggest is still Minnesota. Sorry, but nothing is more satisfying than beating the Gophers. Personally I believe UND/UM is head and shoulders above UND/DU in terms of intensity, and even recent memorable games.

I just think the majority of the fans on either side of the fence get up more for this series than any other and its been that way since I was a kid (42). The Badger rivalry has been good, just nowhere near as intense imo..

If the fans are beginning to think otherwise, then I just haven't caught onto it yet.
