The Ambroz hit was clearly from behind and high. The hit and the ensuing 5 min penalty were both no-brainers. The only not-bad thing about it was that the player wasn't sent into the boards.

I thought it was more high than from behind - I watched it closely a few times (especially the view from the boards) and saw plenty of shoulder contact but I can't necessarily disagree with the call at full speed.

What were the Gophers doing letting UND stay in the game that long?

1. MN wanted the long-passing game in the first. UND's mission? Disrupt the pass. It worked.
2. 2nd period, MN shortened the passing game. Worked. UND/MN decided to play the feud, it was a mess. So, not too many opportunities to set up offense when half your players are in the box (at one point, 5 for UND, 4 for MN).
3. Dell was unreal. Roy-like. Hasek-like. Terry Sawchuk-like. I give him credit. He stood on his head.

Maybe I'm blind, but I thought that while the Gophers didn't play their best the Sioux were often 1 click off from being in very good scoring position. Whether or not they can overcome that anytime soon I don't know but I don't think they are terrible by any stretch. I expect MN to play better tomorrow and finish them, but I don't expect a UND squad that typically plays with pride to lay down and give up. MN will need to play another smart and level-headed game and if they do their talent should come through.

I agree with you. But, I'd add that MN did a better job in scrambling in those situations and blocking shots/tying guys up. This was MN's best defensive effort of the year. Far from perfect, but still its best.

I also think that UND will be dangerous by the end of the year and an NCAA tournament team. The best thing coming out of tonight for them was Dell. For as sub-par as he has been this season, he looked in last year's form tonight.

It LOOKED like shoulder to shoulder, even in replay, but in full speed, and was questionable enough "contact to the head" (which was the official call), I have no prob with the call at all.

north dakotas penalty kill impressed me. id say the best the gophers have seen this season. marshall is going to be an incredible college hockey player. nice to see the gophs beat the sioux on the scoreboard AND in the 2nd period scrum.

to the sioux fan in the offseason that told me on this forum that blood was going to take rau out- theres irony in that the biggest hit of the night was rau hitting blood against the boards props to blood though.. he kept his cool even though rau seemed to harass him all night. rau didnt do MUCH offensively tonight- but did look great on the penalty kill. cant complain there. also expected more out of kristo. looking forward to tomorrow! should be a different game.. im expecting more scoring from both teams. hope to see grimaldi in.. the sioux desperately need him and I also want him ready for the world juniors next month.

Back from the game

Wow the Sue are terrible, they are lucky it was only 2-0 it should have been about 5 or 6-0. The refs gave them weak sauce penalties all night and missed some real gems by the goons.

Lamoureux, what an ugly son of biach he is and a P**sy, go to the box like a good little goon and S-TFU. How pathetic. Rocco?? where were you? Oh that's right, too much for the preacher boy to handle and it would be sin for him to see girls dressed in anything but a full burka.

Gophers should sweep easily tomorrow.

Bakunin's right that this team isn't as skilled as past years. They aren't going to win games pretty this year. Hakstol can get it turned around, but I just hope we don't dig ourselves too big of a hole that we'll have to win the Final Five to make the tourney.

Let's put it this way, Sloe Gin (retired) and I made a bet, since he was being all down and out on his team. I bet a beer that the Gophers WOULDN'T sweep. UND is better than they have been showing. I chalk it up to the traditional slow start. He thinks it's for real.

Edit: and before my tARROGANCE is questioned, I either win a sweep, or a free beer. Hedge your bets, I always say.

MN looks like the more determined *and* skilled team. Their youthful side did rear its ugly head at times with the early-game jitters and some ugly penalties though.

I expect them to finish off this series with a sweep, but UND's goaltending combined with a couple miscues by the Gopher defense could very easily prevent that from happening. Carrying much of the play and only coming out with a two goal victory illustrates quite well how small the margin for error is in this series.

Eh, if he wants to make an *** of himself, let him. Then we can look forward to disparaging remarks about how the entire fanbase sucks because of people like him, followed by counterarguments that it only reflects poorly on the individual. Then we can once again hash out how behavior has a negative bias the larger the fanbase gets, followed by screen captures featuring the infamous UND fan flicking off a Michigan player.

Is anybody else surprised to see all four Sioux players on the same board during the gophers power play goal? I watched the fourth player (defensemen) join the other three along the boards and I was screaming at the t.v. to have anybody get the puck back in the slot. That was great grit shown by Rau.

Hard fought game. Dell certainly played well. Without him, the game is probably not very close. He played like I expected him to before the year started. It will be interesting to see if he can build on it.

There is no doubt UND is going to struggle a bit to score goals this year. Not a lot of scoring depth there (with or without Rocco). Seems like it is a couple of good forwards and then mostly hard working guys with average puck skills.

It'll be interesting to see what the energy levels for each team will be tomorrow night.

Good game, good crowd... Like Hammy said, Dell and Patterson both had solid nights in net. Rau's instincts are great, and he's hitting like so many said he wouldn't, kid plays much bigger than he is, I can't say enough about the guy.

Hopefully its another great game tomorrow night...

Dell standing on his head and the Sioux still losing by two shows the difference in these two teams. Looks like gopher fans have the team they've deserved to see these last few years--talent and drive both. Should be an exciting year for you.

Stafford wasn't Chris Leak's backup his Freshman of the Year. Tebow just didn't get the playing time.
