Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

Anyone else hate that picture and picture replay thing?

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

First period ends in a 0-0 tie. Gophers with the shot advantage 10-7.

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

NCAA needs to embrace half shields and fighting majors. Lots of dirty hits and zero physical consequences to the players. Makes me miss the WHL games during my stint in Saskatoon - game gets dirty, couple of guys get it out of their system, and you get back to hockey. This half-assed chippy, dirty play (on both sides) is pathetic.

I think I saw dx on tv doing Gopher student chants...

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

Second Period ends with Gophers leading 1-0. Nick Bjugstad with the goal. Minnesota with an advantage in shots 24-18.

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

I figured I would copy/paste my thoughts from the game thread over here...

Nice win for Minnesota. Patterson played well, and came up big when he needed to. Dell was great. This game could very well have been about 6-0, but Dell made some impressive saves. North Dakota has a lot of problems, and I'm a little worried that we still look like we're playing the first game of the year. There hasn't been the improvement that I was looking for at this point in the season. Grimaldi being out hurt a lot as I think he helps generate a lot of offense. Minnesota is a good team, but North Dakota played horrible tonight. At this point we're not good, and that is frustrating.

Fun game to watch, great win for the Gophers and Patterson played outstanding again.

Sioux fans can't blame the refs on this one, they had plenty of PP opportunities, some warranted even.

Tomorrow night should be another tight one. Sweep time

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

Dell = MVP of the game, hands down. He kept it that close. No knock on St Pat, he made some outstanding saves too.

UND disrupted the long passing game of MN in the first, MN adjusted, UND didn't.

MN (and UND, although less so) need to stop taking stupid penalties tomorrow night if they want to win.

Reffing was night and day between the 2nd/3rd periods. 2nd: murder someone, then you may get 2. 3rd: look at someone funny, and you get 2 easily. This went for both teams. It was consistent, though, I will say that.

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

Minnesota's penalty Kill and Aaron Dell were the stories of this game. Patterson was great, but Dell stopped this game from being a blowout.

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

It's early, but this UND team doesn't look as skilled as they have been in the past 5+ seasons. They still crash the net and play physical, but I just don't see much in the way of play-making on their side. This very well could prove to be their version of our '07-'08 season - where they simply don't have much offensive firepower and have to adapt to that and play a more defensive style to eke out 2-1 wins. If Dell plays like he did tonight the rest of the season, they certainly have the goaltending to do that.

Agreed. It doesn't help when only 10 forwards dress, and of those probably 6 or 7 are really only 3rd or 4th line type players. I hope Grimaldi can get healthy because he has put a spark in the team when he has been out there, and if you pair him with a scorer (Kristo or Nelson) I think you could see North Dakota be more potent offensively. Defensively we played mediocre, and there really isn't a good reason why we shouldn't be playing better. Hakstol has his work cut out for him, but he has done it every season, so until I see otherwise, I'll trust that they'll be significantly better come February and March. That being said, we sucked tonight, and didn't deserve to only lose by two.
