Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

A limo rented by Sue fans was recently spotted heading down to the Twin Cities for the games this weekend.

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

For this season...

Harvard, Russian Red Stars: $25.00
Michigan Tech, St. Cloud State: $35.00
Colorado College, Maine, Minnesota State, Nebraska Omaha, Wisconsin: $40.00
Minnesota: $50.00

Denver is also in the $50.00 price range, but we do not play them at home this year.

That puts the average at $37.63/game

Interesting. I wasn't aware the ticket prices at REA were that high. I know a lot of schools jack up the ticket price for the Minnesota games, but the baseline is usually so much lower that it doesn't make a lot of difference. Looks like the UND tickets are in the same range as Minnesota (on average, anyway).

I'll be very interested to see what the attendance is like this weekend. With it being UND and the performance so far this year, I'd expect a lot better turnout that we got for Sacred Heart or Vermont.

So, 23 of 27 players being Minnesota natives isn't enough to get you or others to back them? You'd turn your back on the 23 because of the inclusion of the other 4?

Trying to keep up here...

When you have guys looking like they are disinterested in being there (Erik Johnson, Jordan Schroeder) or trying to get out in mid-season (Kyle Okposo), why would you pay good money to go see that? Same reason the Wild sellout streak ended. People want an honest effort.

I never stopped going, but I'm just a wee bit obsessed with Gopher Hockey :)

You probably couldn't keep up if ya tried..

Where were all the Badger fans this past weekend? How about all thru the 80's and 90's? See how that works yet?

I'll make it even simpler for ya.. Junk product=fewer buyers...

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

Again, did anyone ever say the price of seats alone are the reason for empty seats? It has as much to do with the quality of product (as I described in detail above) as anything else.

Are you suggesting NoDak, under similar circumstances, would be immune? If so, you're full of crap or just plain naive.

Of course it's not just the cost, it's also:the team sucks, there are other things to do, it's raining out, my back hurts, I had to mow the lawn, I had to take my wife to the airport, I lost my tickets, I was attacked by a bear, I got locked out of my house, my cellphone fell in the toilet, I was reading a book, that was today?, I had to vacuum, the gutters needed cleaning, I'm re-roofing my house, my socks needed organizing, I wanted to watch a movie. The reasons are endless! :)

As I'm sure the reasons were endless when you guys had trouble filling up to half capacity in the past, or why you guys will have trouble selling out if your on ice product isn't satisfactory for an extended period of time in the future.

As I mentioned before, there were already empty seats at the Ralph this past weekend.

Re: Sioux vs Gophers - Sioux invade the John...

After having their 11th child, a North Dakota couple decided that was enough, as they could not afford a larger bed. So, the husband went to his veterinarian and told him that he and his cousin didn’t want to have any more children.

The doctor told him that there was a procedure called a vasectomy that could fix the problem, but that it was expensive. A less costly alternative, said the doctor, was to go home, get a cherry bomb, light it, put it in a beer can, then hold the can up to his ear and count to 10.

The North Dakotan said to the doctor, "I may not be the smartest man in the world, but I don’t see how putting a cherry bomb in a beer can next to my ear is going to help me."

"Trust me," said the doctor.

So, the man went home, lit a cherry bomb and put it in a beer can. He held the can up to his ear and began to count:

1, 2, 3, 4, 5

At which point he paused, placed the beer can between his legs, and resumed counting on his other hand.

This is not a hockey town or a hockey state. Hockey plays a far distant 3rd fiddle to football and hoops. And even though that is the case, we still lead the nation in attendance.

You see, the thing is that YOU and others come on these boards and claim undying love, solidarity and admiration for all things Minnesota hockey and imply that everyone in your state feels the way because of some "hockey culture" that the rest of us could never fathom.

But then we see empty seats, point them out and get to hear a brand new round of excuses.

Those are your native sons wearing the maroon & bile. Support them no matter what or stop claiming to be more than any other fans, coz you're not.

Where was everyone at the KC last week? Don't know. There's other things to do around here... ;)

Oh, work is so incredibly boring today...

The Gophers aren't the only hockey in town man. That's the fact you simply refuse to acknowledge, or maybe it's that you just don't comprehend that fact.

The day the fail to sellout the X for the high school hockey championship, or the Mooch for high school section finals, or the day the annual Roseau vs Warroad matchup fails to draw 4,000+ fans, then come back and talk to me about how Minnesotans don't support Minnesota hockey.

It's all about getting an honest effort for your money. Norm Green didn't understand that, and obviously neither do you.

1. Kohl Center is a large arena built for basketball and hockey unlike most including the mariucci. And im old enough to remember many years of empty seats in Madison.
2. The excuse is simple, the team has sucked for the past few years, no need to look further than that. But make no mistake about it the Gophs have a very very large fanbase, if you say otherwise you're only lying to yourself.

-And this is for yesterdays argument.. Have you perhaps contacted Nanne, Sonmore or Gilmore yet to ask them if I was correct in saying that the Gopher Hockey program was the driving force of what Hockey in MN is today? I guarantee that if you brushed up on your MN hockey history you'd find that to be true.

-I also have another question that i've often wondered.. Why did/do the WI Badger fans boo when Kessel took the ice at the Kohl? Theres been 3 WI hockey playes in Gopher history, and I couldn't even tell you how many MN kids have played for the Badgers. If WI residents are so greatly bothered by Minnesotans do you/they realize just how backwards they have it? It took Bob Johnson (a Minnesotan) coach to put that program on the map, and a handfull of Minnesota natives each year to keep it competitive. So why not boo the MN kids on the roster? You know as well as I did a fair number of those kids (not all) would have gladly played for the Gophs and chose the Badgers for ice time (line), coaching (Hill), close to home, WCHA exposure etc etc. We both know the hatred between MN and WI is anything but a respectful rivalry (UND/UM).

Where in the US, and I will concede this "argument" if you can point out where outside MN will you sell 18,000 seats to a HS Hockey championship game or 100,000+ attending a State HS Hockey Tournament?

So North Dakotans count on their fingers and toes, minnesotans need their state spelled for them on a giant screen. Hello kettle.

No, we do it to help remind the opposing fans who they are playing. Sometimes they forget or may even be unable to spell. We try to help out and remind them.

Let's say the X was the Gophers home rink. How do you think the attendance records would look then? Gophers could easily out draw the badgers with a bigger rink. KC also draws lots of opposing fans to inflate those numbers because it's so cavernous that its easy to get tickets last minute there.

You're bringing up Kessel?

Who said we're bothered by Minnesotans?

We just don't like the Gophers. Or the Vikings.

Actually rooted FOR Duluth last year.

I dunno man, I seem to get a very different vibe from the folks in WI...

As for rooting for UMD, most of MN did as well.. The whole "you cant be a UMD fan if you're a Goph fan" is relatively new. Most Goph will root for any MN team come tournament time.

I find myself secretely hoping your Packers win another SB and break a few new records this year, one of the best teams i've ever seen and a class organization top to bottom including the fans.. Lambeau is easily the best place ever to catch a game, quite the experience. (gotta go wash my mouth out now).

What about the bad product on ice, corpies buying all the tix, not enough blond-haired/blue-eyed on roster (wait, wrong team), all the other stuff to do in the metro area and your cousin's kid's squirt game?

That wouldn't apply at the X?

Also, the only teams that bring fans of any significant amount are UND and you guys (although not so much lately).

Point is, this is not a big hockey area and we do okay with attendance for a college niche sport. You guys are the hockey capital of the U.S. (evidently) and you struggle to get butts in the seats.

It's because secretly you all loathe the Gophers and wish you could be us. :D:p

Anyone who reads this book will know what you are talking about. It's the sole reason WI high school hockey is decades behind MN.

I cannot respect the Packer stuff on any level.

And seriously, do you really think that the average Wisconsinite has some latent (or open) hatred for Minnesotans? It's just the teams.

We hate people from Illinois along with their teams.

We never struggled until recently. And let me setup another point. How many Badger games are on TV? Which program, even last year, was more profitable?

And to answer your question as to why the empty seats in a "Hockey State" again...
