Sioux versus Badgers... Is Wisconsin really that bad?

Re: Sioux versus Badgers... Is Wisconsin really that bad?

Talking with a longtime Badgers fan, even HE was pi**ed about losing to Tech, despite him saying WI will lose a LOT of games this year, due to their youth. I asked if (taking into account early departures) in 2-3 years, WI will be a solid team, he thought they would. There's an insane amount of youth on the Badgers this year.

That being said, I don't give two craps who wins. Just beat the sh* out of each other.

Name a Badger fan who isn't ****ed about losing to Tech?

Some may have excused it to youth, beginning of a season, looking ahead to UND, etc. Not this guy. He was livid. He wanted go on a rampage. And he's one of the more sane Badger fans I know. He had no excuses.

I'm not coz I understand that this is a young team and these things will happen to young teams. It's a building process that most likely won't yield good results until next season at the earliest.

I'm not ****ed about losing to Tech (who may be much improved). I may have at one time thought it was our birthright to win at least 3 out of 4 each season against teams such as Tech, but those days appear to be gone.

What I'm ****ed off about is what put us in a position to lose to Tech and that is Eaves' continued inability to field balanced teams over time. He gets surprised an awful lot by early departures and de-commitments. Never seems to have a back-up plan or other assets in the pipeline.

I'm actually surprised to read this. I usually hear people taking digs at Eaves for over-recruiting and only take the cream of the crop as needed. He has done well for UW as a ton of talented players come through the pipeline. Especially Blue-Liners.

To be honest, I'd prefer a consistently good COLLEGE hockey program over being known as a NHL player factory. When I want to see NHL talent, I watch the NHL and my Blackhawks.

I like seeing the Badger players that make the NHL, but I'd trade a few (not all) of those for more consistency here. I realize that it can be argued that we continue to get that top level talent BECAUSE we turn out top level talent, but we've seen what can happen with top level talent leaving early.

BC has the formula.

Touche. I can't argue that.

Couple other thoughts...

I don't watch college hockey to see NHL prospects - most for only a season or two. Again, can and do see them on NHL Center Ice.

I am a Badger fan and college hockey fan and I watch/follow my team in the hopes that I can see these kids develop individually and as new team-entities each season. The process is almost as much fun as the results, but the process gets hijacked when kids are only here for a year or two.

This is what made the 06 Badgers so much fun and so rewarding. We had a core group (Seniors and Juniors) that stuck around and developed together instead of a jigsaw puzzle that had to be assembled out of different parts.

This is the same reason that I watch college football. Fun to watch the kids grow up and if they have success after being here, that's just the icing.

The days of core groups sticking around until they are upper-classmen went by the wayside when the NHL signed it's most recent CBA. Too many team's need cheap players to augment their rosters.

You guys are seeing some of the same problems the Gophers had at the beginning of their downturn. Too many unexpected departures that forced them to bring players in too early. Not only do you lose a top end player, but you replace him with someone who isn't ready.

I absolutely agree with you that BC has the right formula. You need to recruit blue chip players and augment that with players who are more likely to stick around. People rip on the Gophers for the size of some of their recent recruits (Rau, Kloos, Warning, etc...), but these guys are less likely to be 1-2 and dones.

You saw what BC's waterbugs did to us in the NC game. I'll take those guys for my college hockey team any day.

I really wasn't ****ed about losing to Tech. Knowing the true youth on the team (not 21 yr old freshmen with 2-3 yrs of USHL experience, but 17-18 yr olds out of HS or ntdp), I have accepted the first 1/3 of the season is a learning situation. I feel good the goaltending isn't giving up a ton of goals and I think the O and the PP will come around in time.

I think the defending champs up at tUMD had a lot of those "waterbug" type players on their roster last year....I think that worked out well for them.

Eaves over-recruits and people complain. Eaves under-recruits and people complain.

Does anyone in Wisconsin with Dish Network see the game on the guide? I thought they finally had the FSN/FS-WI thing figured out, but I only see the Goofer game on tonight...

Thanks Chuck! I found it. I have to take the girl to F*g*re Sk*t*ng (sorry, at least my other daughter plays hockey). But at least I can DVR the game now.

Re: Sioux versus Badgers... Is Wisconsin really that bad?

good game. but...where's the hate?!?!?!?!??

Maybe Eaves and Eades need to have a pre-game discussion or something (Andringa can give Mike a water bottle to offer in friendship!). bring this effen rivaly back to where it should be.
