Re: Singles Part 14: Come Get Some!

You seem... surprised.

Was this a bluff gone horribly wrong?

Congratulations! You need to invite MissT. You flyovers all live within walking distance of each other, right?

In fact, you're all hot seating at the one computer in the state?

You will love marriage. It is awesome.

Sure. Since surgery, dx and I have been out drinking on the regular. He's my driver.

Nope. Still coming down off the high.

Thanks! No bluff. The joke is the cost of weddings these days.

I can’t wait for marriage.

Congrats!

My wife and I were able to have our wedding, engagement rings, honeymoon flight and Air bnb included, for about $19k. And we had roughly 450 people there. It’s sad to think of that as a bargain price.

Agreed. Was gonna have a small, family/one friend per (best man/maid of honor) only. Small event. It should be about you guys, period.

Re: Singles Part 14: Come Get Some!

Our wedding cost $25 for the license and 75 cents for parking.

We are very happy.

I got married in shorts on the back lawn. Cooked the food for the reception, lobsters and clams are pretty easy though :D

Re: Singles Part 14: Come Get Some!

When I get married, I can reserve the church for free. Not sure where the reception will be, however.

Re: Singles Part 14: Come Get Some!

I'm engaged!
Congrats!
I agree with Kep; marriage is awesome.

The WIC will convince you that you absolutely need every bell and whistle. We sat down with a wedding planning book from the library and decided what was important (excellent photographs, writing our own ceremony, open bar) and what wasn't (wearing white, huge guest list, wedding cake). We went with stuff that mattered to us (we wrote our own ceremony, made most of our decorations, kept our guest list small - 69 attendees :D , and I wore a red bridesmaid's dress for my wedding dress for 250$ not 12k$ for the red wedding dress I had originally liked). Be true to you guys (also, make sure you have at least 30 minutes to yourself after the wedding, but before the reception to just relax and revel in the moment).

Re: Singles Part 14: Come Get Some!

When I was engaged, it was:

Bargain wedding dress, 2 people per side for wedding party, and close family only in attendance (prob 30 people max?). Reception was anyone who wanted to come, no reserved place. It was a local bar. Fuggit. It would have been her second time being married, obviously my first. The actual rite was what was important to us. Didn't need to be a show.

An alternate plan.

(some states. others still frown upon unnatural acts :()

Re: Singles Part 14: Come Get Some!

My ideal wedding:

My partner and I up front
5-6 people a side (basically my trans friends on my side)
Full church
No assigned seating at the reception
No cake, but cookies, muffins, scones, etc
Definitely no chicken dance
