Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

Although the Lakers controlled play, they wasted way too much time getting setting up for the perfect sequence. An excellent squad doesn't get into the situation of tonight, but a halfway decent team can pull itself out of a hole, if given the chance. Hopefully this is the end of the mucking about - put the pedal to the medal.

Boots, Moody, and Carr all disappointed me tonight, all with the lack of execution around the goal (less finese, more throwing it on net would be prefered), and general disposition...particularly in the case of one Ayotte. Whitelaw and Rodrigues pulled their weight, as did HVB (literally, at times). Beckwith...I wouldn't fault him for the goals scored against him - his defence was crummy. He certainly stood tall late to keep the game under control.

More crying by Oswego fans when they didn't win by enough to suit them. Between you guys and the Plattsburgh fans, the "sky is falling" scenarios are really getting old. Enjoy the fact that you are ranked number 1 and have only lost two games all season. Enjoy the ride for heaven's sake. Is there something about the water up there?

Yeh, I think it has something to do with lake effect and winter depression.

Not all of us feel as though the sky is falling. Only a select few.

They had 21 shots in the 1st period, they most certainly came out ready to play. When did we reach the point where the perception is this team is so good that if they do not have every game wrapped up by the end of the 1st it's because they took their foe lightly? The problem is that the last couple of years the Lakers have done such a good job of bringing their A game every night that when there is a close game people such as yourself act like the sky is falling.

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

The sky is not falling here in Oz. Last year people got caught up in all the blowouts and to some any time they don't blow a team out it is a failure. It really matters very little how you win your games, as long as you win them and not every player on the team is going to play perfect every night.

I don't know about anyone else but the Cortland game was as exciting a game as I have seen in a while and it was not for lack of effort that they had to win it in OT. I was glad I didn't go all the way down there to see a game be over half way through and the two teams go through the motions for the other half. A lot of people want a blood letting, I just want to see a good game so I can talk about it later.

Those games like cortland will be good for Oz down the road, as they know they can come from behind, also close games will help out as well instead of the aforementioned blowouts, which were not to much fun at all.....should be a fun game vs the stangs fri as it has meaning for both teams.......

Other than keeping a strangle hold onto a Pool C (if neccesary) and maintaining (likely) that #1 seed in the East (which could be huge, considering it is likely/possible that 4 of the first round byes will be western teams), this game does not mean as much to Oswego as it does for the Ponies.

The Ponies have 4 games remaining and a sweep of those 4 games would ensure a home playoff game and a #3 seed in the SUNYAC...which would help them to avoid Oswego until the SUNYAC finals..

ow for sure more important for the stangs, but as a player and a fan, and all 3 games are home, you want to win them all.......and an unblemished SUNY record would be nice

Of course you always want to win all of your games...Brockport would like to win all three of their remaining games but that doesn't mean they are playing "meaningful" games. (Note: Obviously all players that suit up in any sport should take every game as being meaningful to them, whether they are undefeated or the Cleveland Cavaliers:p )

An umblemished record, while nice, does not mean a whole lot in the grand scheme of things other than a #1 seed in the SUNYAC playoffs.

Nope - terribly sorry to come down on your envy so hard. A lot of other fans would want their team to be in a similiar position right now.

Maybe it is just a way of expressing one's stress over the stress of watching a close game that, on paper, shouldn't have been that close. Or your failure to realize that everyone enjoys a close game, but there's just going to be some reflection on what made it so close. That's all.

As for myself, #1 on USCHO...not that big of a deal. It's just another target to wear on the back. Would the Cadets like it?

Exactly. The amount you win by isn't reflected in your winning %, SOS, H2H, etc. All it means is that you get two fewer 1st place votes in the USCHO poll which (perhaps unfortunately) has nothing to do with the NCAA's selection process.

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

This weekends game means a lot to Morrisville and Oswego has to meet their intensity by finding a way to make it meaningful. While it means nothing in terms of seeding and only slightly more in terms of the NCAA's, there is a lot more to meaningful games than just those two things.

First, you don't want to show any signs of vulnerability with the playoffs coming up. While I think the concept is slightly overrated, it doesn't hurt to go into the playoffs on a roll. Last year they went in on a loss and came out flat in the semi's, they were able to win the track meet with Morrisville but I don't know if they can do that this year.

Second, the crowd will be revved up as it is the first game Oswego will have played in front of the students since December 10th and the first home game since January eighth. That should help them match the intensity that the 'stangs will have early in the game.

I'm not jealous, in fact, I'm encouraging you guy to enjoy the ride...we did last year. There's a lot to enjoy about being in that position without going negative when you win by 1 goal against a team you regard as "unworthy"

Oh, come now - I will never call a team that shuts out Platty in Platty as "unworthy".:D More like "most impressive".

You are 100% right though, sir. Getting that close last year has generated a lot of hype and expectations this year, and a general failure to simply savor the ride has developed on my part. I have to be honest though - I've never been one to savor a roller-coaster ride. Far too much adrenaline in anticipation, and it is rather the same here with the Lakers.

*kicks up the boots and leans back* Workin' on it.

You may be right about the whole "what's in the water thing" though - there's a nuclear power plant on the lake not nine miles away from OSU campus...

Really looking forward to the game Saturday night - seems like forever since they have been home. For those of you who are coming in for the game from out side the "snow belt" be ready. With today's storm we are up to over 14 feet for the winter. Let's hope we don't get more so the college can get the lots cleaned up and ready.
