Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

I've been following oswego hockey for a couple of years, but this is the first year I followed it hardcore enough that I'm going to other schools to watch them play. I'm kind of embarrassed to admit that I don't know how the sunyac playoffs are structured, if someone could explain how many teams are in the playoffs and which teams play each other and which teams get a pass through the first round that would be great. I know they are seeded, I just woner how the brackets are set up?

For the SUNYAC playoffs, the top 6 of the 9 SUNYAC teams make the playoffs and the bottom three don't. Seeds 1 and 2 get a bye for the first round, and 3 plays 6 and 4 plays 5 at the higher seed's barn. The winner of 3/6 plays 2 and the winner of 4/5 plays 1. So, using the current SUNYAC standings, this is how the playoffs set up if the season ended today:

Standings
1. Oswego
2. Geneseo
3. Morrisville
4. Plattsburgh
5. Buffalo State
6. Fredonia
7. Cortland
8. Potsdam
9. Brockport

First round matchups if playoffs started today:

6 Fredonia @ 3 Morrisville - winner plays @ 2 Geneseo in second round (semifinals)
5 Buffalo State @ 4 Plattsburgh - winner plays @ 1 Oswego in second round (semifinals)

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

from what you can see on the webcast, they lakers looked VERY aggressive and it got them a few dumb penalties, I would have had Bremner sit for awhile after his 2 penalties, watch and cool alittle, a few other dumb penalties as well, taking penalties is Ok but when you need to take them, not in your offensive zone.......FYI all of platts goals were on the PP, perhaps because Bremner was in the box for the 1st 2?????.....beckwith looked solid and yes must control rebounds as stated b4........another thing ive noticed all season is they try and make the perfect pass 2 many times, when they shot the puck at the net they score, either staight in or on rebounds, both on and off the PP, SHOOT THE PUCK.......Fox is pressing, but he WILL come up big when needed ...Singleton and Kelly are great they never stop and the team feeds off it, the D played well and kept shots to the outside..when and if we meet the birds again lets stay out of the box as we saw yesterday not a good thing, we win even up for sure.....great game and better weekend.......ps cortland took 2 in the northcountry WOW

Got to say, the one penalty to Bremner wasn't his fault. Leis played the puck and pushed off the boards to get back to the net as Dan came around the net....Couldn't avoid him. Then Kelly hit Leis and knocked him down. Bremner got the whistle. His first penalty although a penalty wasn't called till the crowd went off on the ref. I looked at both refs right after it happened. Neither one had an arm up. Then, as the play moved up the boards. The whistle blew. Hussle forechecking isn't a bad thing. And he got an ear full from Coach when he came to the bench after the second penalty. He still played better than alot of the team (both ends) the rest of the game. Even the Plattsburgh fans I was with said they'd take him in a second. Works his *** off. The line of Kelly Bremner and Singleton were great. Laginear has his swagger back after lighting the lamp Friday, he appears to like his newer linemates. Fox isn't pressing he doesn't have Selleck taking away defenders. He has to just keep working, he's fine, goals will come. Just my little take.......

Jon "White Lightning" Whitelaw really is the Plattsburgh killer. :)

Good job on the call of the goals and thanks for the highlight video.

Also for anyone who likes to look at what might be happening in the future, it appears as if current OJHL scoring leader Phil Brewer will be a Laker next season according to this article. I know these things aren't set in stone so take it with a grain of salt.

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

synced it with our audio and some O Fortuna :)

Ode de Fortuna...sounds great everytime. Nice sir!:)

BTW - I'd like to take you up on your message on YouTube. I've got another piece for the playoffs in the works, and the calls are excellent! That ok?

Eh, what the heck - pile on an extra post. Anybody have some tips on attending the Cortland game (tickets, Laker fan seating, % chances of home goon encounters, etc)?
