And with all this snow, (now approaching roughly 4ft on the ground where I am) it certainly appears to be business as usual in the land of Oz. Hopefully the Lakers can continue their winning ways tonight.

The Blue Devils always seem to play us tight in Fredonia.

This WILL NOT be a cake game. Boys gotta come to play or Freddy could definitely steal a point or two.

We might have 4 inches!!

Do the students come back this weekend? Boy are they in for a surprise! I am just recovering now from listening to Lakers game, getting too old for OT. Any win is a good win though!

Just wondering how unique is one team having 3+ shutouts with 3 Goalies each getting at least one?

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

All is right with the world as sanity returns to LakerLand.

True sanity, for me at least, lies in knowing the results of a certain game exactly one week from tonight. Powerhouse teams around Division 3 have been dropping games as of late, such as St Norbert falling against a division rival, or Norwich's difficult trends these days. If there is one notable team that has become rampant and dangerous, it is Plattsburgh. No SUNYAC opponent should be ignored, naturally, because of the simple possibility of an upset-minded squad or a funk night for the Lakers. However, no season factors weigh in more for a single game now than OSU v PSU next Saturday.

It is about momentum and domination between two powerful clubs, but statistics-wise, a win would cement the #1 seed for the Lakers (provided the Bears are defeated the night before), and would give Geneseo or Morrisville the slim opening to take 2nd, and hold on. Plattsburgh being relegated to the 3rd seed would be the best case situation, imo - no one in this seed would be able to meet the 1st seed until the SUNYAC final.

I am only stating the obvious: that PSU is our top rival with the greatest threat, but I also think that these two clubs may very well meet three more times - and here's hoping that Oswego battles enough to at least prove that they could win the third match... outside of New York.

I don't think if Oswego loses to Plattsburgh that if would be a true "upset." I know what Plattsburgh's record says. Its obvious that they have righted the ship. Add to that they are playing at the Staff and that the Cards will have revenge as a factor. Also, Plattsburgh really needs this win to prove they are an upper-echelon team this season, and for a resume builder going into the post season. All of that said, I still think the Lakers win.

first thing is to have a great week in practice, then get ready for Potts on fri, hopefully they will have sometime at the middle/end of the game to rest a few starters/guys who play more, but they have to beat the bears first like the packers are going to do today.......NEXT...come out flying vs the birds to put them back on their heels then play a game without to many penalties.......and beat the birds as the JETS will do to the steelers today.......will the game be on video on the 29th??

Wonder where the game will be played on Friday night - based upon the damage that was reported last night, can they fix the problem and get a new sheet down in time that will be worth (safe) to play on? (Potsdam is finishing last night's game at Clarkson today, I believe....)

I'll take it one step further - Plattsburgh gets into the NCAA, even provided any losses that they experience for the rest of the season (and SUNYAC post-) are against Oswego only. It would be a repeat of last year's situation, unless something unusual comes down the pipe for the selection committee to leave them out of an at-large birth, should they need it.

That aside, I agree with you wholeheartedly. There is a lot riding on this match, and any results will not be deemed an upset. And I will shut up now from being Captain Obvious - one game at a time, bring on Potsdam.

I'll take the win at Freddy any day of the week. It's always a dogfight there and I'm happy to get the W.

I'll expand on the previous posts and I don't think it would be an upset if Plattsburgh defeated Oswego. The Cards seem to have righted the ship and the Lakers just got Paul Beckwith back. A good rule of thumb for old school Laker fans is that be happy with 4 points in the North Country, but expect only 2. As long as we get 1 game, then we can try to win the SUNYAC in the next couple weeks after that.

Any Oswego fan that expects four points in North Country needs a history lesson. :)

Listening to the games this weekend and Coach Digby after the Fredonia game it appears that the Lakers are being penalized for being too aggressive while their opponents transgressions are overlooked. I agree that there are times when Oswego pulls some stupid penalties and hopefully we will never see one like the one that doomed Fredonia last night. Having not seen any games for awhile, are they being punished for being too aggressive or are the officials nit-pickin? Does it depend on who the officials are?

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

It really depends on who the officials are. The only game I have seen them play this year where they really were undisciplined was against Hobart and even in that one Hobart got away with a lot more than they did. In hockey anymore teams that play aggressive get penalized for what used to be good hockey plays while teams that sneak in stick holds and dives are getting away with it. All you can do is keep playing the way you are playing and hope the offense, goaltending and penalty killing is good enough to overcome it while not taking any really dumb penalties to compound the situation.

It definitely depends on who the officials are. But with a greater push in the sport to protect players from injuries, I think a good amount of the "bad" calls are just reactionary. The boarding call on Friday night on the Lakers was complete garbage, the ref deep in the defensive zone made the call, while the other referee was looking right at the play. It seems now if you make a good hit, it's a penalty. The coaches aren't helping either, they complain to no end when they should be yelling at their players to keep their heads up rather than yelling at the referees.
