Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

Did anybody mention the ice factor over the last two games on here? I don't think I saw it but the ice surface was pretty rough after the compressor went down on New Year's Day. The sensor that is supposed to alarm the staff was on the same circuit and as you could guess blew as well. So, they had no idea until the next day after the holiday of the problem with the ice. By then I heard it was a real mess, if I remember correctly from being told by a credible source that there was a pond of water on the "ice" on Jan. 2nd. Hopefully they will have enough time over the next two weeks with no hockey played on that ice surface to fix things.

This seems like the second or third year in a row there has been major ice issues at the CC over the Holiday Break. What gives?

Now that they have a break my understanding is they are going to completely re-do the ice. It was a little better last night but Tuesday was terrible.

It sure looked funky...

Curry last night looked as if they wouldn't know what to do with a power play if it was gift-wrapped and presented to them on a gold platter. Oswego's kill was decent again, and the defense was stalwart for the most part. I was muttering circus tunes to myself for the first 10 minutes of the second period though. It was as if nothing could be done down at the Curry end, and then all hell broke loose finally.

Perhaps Gosek's line shuffle is all part of his own plans over the NC play to find a decent chemistry before SUNYAC opens up again. He has seemed to find a good one in Mootlaw at least. Maybe we'll see a little more consistency from here on out now - not saying that our offensive capitalization has been stellar this year anyways, but they seem to make enough count more often than not.

I'm with you Alum - Buff State/Fredonia would be a nice split weekend for Beckwith to warm up with, and give Jones the other game. Our goaltending isn't as splendid as when Paul is in the pipes, but backups posting shutouts is a tribute to solid efforts all around in not allowing garbage goals (any team, regardless of record, has a decent shot at those). They'll be ready.

Did the announce the field for next years tournament like they have in years past?

But if the goaltender didn't have to make many tough saves or many saves at all why should they be #1, especially if the defense played as well as it did from reading everyone's comments. Yes they definitely need to be in the stars of the game but I completely disagree that they need to be #1 especially if the game wasn't in doubt and they didn't have to do a whole lot to get the shutout.

Well young man that is your opinion and I have mine.

Trivia questions of the night...

When was the last time a team got back-to-back shutouts by two different goalies?

Assuming Beckwith starts the next game, has any team posted back-to-back-to-back shutouts by 3 different goalies?

Fair enough. I'm not saying you have to agree with me. Lol but as a person who picks the 3 stars of the game for
Norwich that's how I would evaluate it and i would find no need to make the goaltender the no. 1 star of the game for shutting out the little sisters of the poor in an 8-0 win on 15 shoTs.

Yes I realize the irony of this statement. It was meant that way. And no I'm not calling curry the little sister of the poor.

TCU and Boise State are now looking to schedule Norwich...

I don't know the answer to the question but I know Oswego has had back to back shutouts with two goalies on at least four different occasions. Tyson Gajda and Joe Lofberg did it twice, Nov. 9 and Nov. 10 2001 and Dec. 3 and Dec. 6 2002. Ryan Scott and Brett Leonhardt pulled off the feat on Nov. 26 and Nov. 27, 2004.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves, I haven't heard if Beckwith has been cleared to play yet and even if he was he may not be as sharp as he was when he was injured plus Buff State is not a team to be taken lightly.

Oswego Raises $3,650 for Saves For A Cure Foundation

Outstanding! Kudos to everyone who bid. Only two jerseys went for under $100 with the highest bid going to captain Chris Laganiere's for $255. Jon Whitelaw's #10 and Ian Boots' #11 each garnered $250 as well!

I was in the running for Whitelaw's jersey when it was in the low 100's, but then it became too rich for my blood.

Congratulations goes to Oswego Asst. Coach Mark Digby for orchestrating this and expanding it to Oswego. My hope is that this can be a SUNYAC-wide event in the coming years. Todd, Russell, Mark? any takers to help drum up support?

I'm confident this event would be extremely successful at a Geneseo, Plattsburgh, and Fredonia too.

Wish there was more I could do to help.

Not getting ahead of anything... Simply a curious question...

I think stumping the board should get me a first round bye in the T.O.P at the end of the year..:D

OZZ great trivia question but does anyone now if for any season that all of the lakers goalies have posted a shut out in the same season. I have been watching the lakers since 84 and I can't remember any.
