Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

It seems like they do one every few years and you're right, nothing comes of it. There were at least two done while I was at Oswego as well as two mascot competitions.

Personally, I'd like it if they returned to the anchor days but I've been told administration isn't a fan of the anchor. Why i don't know but was always a fan of Oswego's anchor jerseys and Lake Superior State's.

I agree with you about the anchor jerseys. Maybe the AD will allow the team to have a throw-back weekend and bring the old jerseys out.

That's one p.o' ed fisherman! :) My Two Sense.....get ride of the ships wheel and harpoon, bring back the stick (post #577) Nice work Remy. Of course I would like to see the word 'Great' inserted. Old School kid.

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

Two observations

1. Shouldn't the dude be facing the wheel? - tough to steer a ship when the pilot has his back to the wheel.
2. Harpoons are more associated with whaling than lake commerce. Of course, some of those old inland sea captains are more likely to want to be holding on to this kind of harpoon

As one of two confirmed diehard Islanders fans on this board, I beg you to please stop bringing back memories of that awful logo. Wekve tried to black that out of our minds for the last 15 years!

Separate question, In an article today about one the Islanders prospects getting to wear the A for the Windsor Spitfires, it adds that "...defenseman Ryan Ellis was named captain.". That our guy from a couple years ago?

Ryan Ellis that played for the Canadian world junior team a few years ago. He's legit.

I find it strange that plattsburgh fans have spent more time creating a mascot for the lakers on here than any lakers fans have

Wouldn't you think it would be better to have the flying bird go *plop* on the Laker the way birds go *plop* on my cars?

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

I can call already on a grumpy bunch of killjoys at Oswego shooting down the design because:
A) The mascot must not be gender specific - you must either create a female alternate or alter the current logo to be non-sex related,
B) The mascot must not be race specific - the fisherman needs to be of a complexion that all races (skin colors, whatever) can fit into,
C) The mascot can't look PO'ed - there must be a certifiable "cheerful expression" that the mascot looks like it could turn to, in order to seem less aggressive and more fan-friendly.
...:mad::mad::mad:

We ran into the exact same roadblocks last time a meeting was held in the CC about 3 semesters removed. The gentleman who restarted the idea had a plethora of great options drawn up and presentation-ready, and the pains from SA (nothing personal to those on here individually who had served on it) were only too happy to counter every enthusiasm with stupid protocol after ridiculous reason. I'm almost happy that we don't have a mascot yet, because it would be something so weak, pathetic, and uninspiringly neutral that one would be ashamed of being affiliated with it.

I'll give 'em credit - they know a flexible mascot option with no bounds (besides waterbound elements) that could always use a little speculative imagery!

A gentleman in 19th century garb. As an admiral in the navy; complete with a long heavy hunter green coat, gold epaulets with long fringes, white waistcoat and trousers, and knee high black boots. Toss in an officer's sword and scabbard to make it a tad more realistic. Completing the uniform, a commanding bicorn hat - also hunter green, with a gold stripe down the side, and the helm logo sewn into place on both sides.

Beyond this mascot look, an alternate logo could show the admiral grasping the helm and squinting ahead while dark "thundersnow" rages behind him, with lightning and snow flying. The tattered "L" flag could be shown flying from a nearby mast.

It would be a fitting tribute to the long warring history of Lake Ontario (and weather conditions), a new look for the interpretation of a "Laker", and it might even fly for the P.C. police if the dude is clean shaven .

And it could be quite bad arse:cool:.

I've always been a fan of images rather than descriptions. No photoshop skills with all that video editing/making? ;)

Hence WTOP > WNYO. :)

No photoshop came with this here PC - I'm too cheap to get it:eek::D. At least WMM is free...

If I wanted to do it justice, I'll start drawing it up in charcoal.

No probem - he/she is transgendered

B) The mascot must not be race specific - the fisherman needs to be of a complexion that all races (skin colors, whatever) can fit into,
After a winter's gale on the Lake, everyone looks white (pale)

C) The mascot can't look PO'ed - there must be a certifiable "cheerful expression" that the mascot looks like it could turn to, in order to seem less aggressive and more fan-friendly.
