Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

Apparently the rule at the new campus center is that you cannot stand or lean on your chair unless you are in the top rows or up in the standing room area. So basically the place will never be like romney (not that i got to experience it unfortunately). These kids who take up the middle of the top row in my section don't even watch the game they just sick and talk about stupid ****. I have a few friends that like to stand the whole game with me and now we can't.

Lame. That entire student section just needs to stand up and stay standing at the start of the game. They can't throw you out if you all do it...and no one should be able to complain if everyone is standing either because no views are blocked.

What a joke. It's the kids arena...let them do what they want. It's their time.

From what I have seen this season, the kids in the student section do stand pretty much whenever they want for as long as they want....:D:D:D

As far as standing in the rest of the seating area, tell me where you can go and stand for a performance - sports, movie, concert, whatever - where the people behind you are sitting???:confused::confused:

I was at Romney in the 70's - back then students were only let in if the locals didnt fill the place:mad: (you got a ticket - really? - wait over there...) - I get why people have romantic memories about the old barn, but you could not make it through three periods without a lot of brandy - pick your flavor - and one of those massive snorkel coats complete with furry hood up. I understand why those who PLAYED there love the joint, and it was a party when the drinking age was 18 and you could get past the guy at the door, but I don't get why trashing the CC is such a sport around here.....:confused::confused::confused:

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

I played in Romney in the 80's, and had to watch 1 game from the stands, got throw out for fighting the night b4, and the guys in the stands were hardcore, I have also attended the last 2 Pots/Platts weekends at the CC and they are great fans as well, so it is a different atmosphere than Romney, you can watch the game in a t-shirt, and have some good food, against wearing 3 coats and filling your pockets with rum........BOTH GREAT......Finally the CC is a kick as recruiting tool, in my frshman yr I went to Elmira because of the better rink, but then forgot I had to go to class ugh lol.......

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

LakerEagleLover - you are exactly right. I have been going to Laker hockey games since 1968, before there was a SUNY hockey conference and we had to play mostly Canadian teams. Romney was fun and a great atmosphere but it was getting to be a dump. The CC is a great facility to watch a game, it certainly helps in recruiting and a 24 game home winning streak ain't bad. Get over Romney and appreciate what we have now and strive to make it better. I only wish they would allow horns, cow bells etc... but I believe that is a conference rule, not local. Anyway, the fans make the atmosphere, not the building.

I was talking about the student section only. Look
At all the real student sections in d1. They all are standing while the game is going on. Standing keeps you more focused on the game and not the other crap going on

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

I usually like to sit in the top row behind the opposing goal, end seat, but this one kid keeps taking the seats. He sits like 3 in from the end and i cannot sit there because i usually go to a game with 5-10 people. A few of us stand or lean up against the seats the whole game. An usher told me to sit down twice yesterday even though there was no one behind me the first time. I was livid. I would prefer it if the whole student section stood the whole time. I love it and i can see better. Instead this kid takes the seats i have been sitting in since freshman year now and all they do is talk to each other the whole game (This is my junior year).

The Aud and the Mustang's barn are like night and day in every aspect, and our guys have cut their teeth in road action again (finally). But this team just knocked off a usually exceptional Plattsburgh home team, with the venerable Relkoff backstopping nicely again. Anyone else feel Morrisville is becoming a new team-to-beat in the SUNYAC?

It'll be a close one yet again next week, I bet. Celebrate the 8-0 though.:D

Silly random question here, what is the song that the lakers come on the ice to this year?

Not even close. Morrisville does this from
Time to time. They have a great goaltender that when on can keep them in a game against anyone. However lets be real here. Morrisville has two lines that can barely skate. This victory doesn't change that

Oswego just wore them down last year because the Lakers can run 4 lines out there. However, MoVille has Relkoff so he can keep them in games.

HOT GOALE........never know what will hapens, and like I said in a few previous post, Oz rolls 4 and says try and stop us, they have played 4 sets of back to back games and won all 4 sets, due in part to this, and solid D and netminding, also think Gosek has got a good look at most of his players but will continue to change lines and line-ups.....Lets get Jones some time now

I didn't see the Aud tonight, but it was this exact trend again, I'll bet. Oswego opened it up properly in the 3rd probably due to the fresh, balanced lines they usually possess throughout, and which other teams (Utica) cannot maintain for the game.

I think you're right about the hot goalie though - all you need is one Relkoff and a decent defensive effort, and MSU's going to have a strong chance if he's on fire. Now if the Laker offense snaps it together and starts raining shots in a week...maybe (just maybe) Relkoff can finally be shell-shocked. Who knows?

I'd say hold off on Jones until conference play concludes for the year in 2 weeks. Beckwith is looking pretty good right now, and once all the SUNY teams have been played for now (and hopefully we've secured a sizable cushion), THEN let's start Jones. He could play Utica, Hobart, etc., but I think the SUNYAC play is too valuable to pass on Beckwith right now. Morrisville and (especially) Geneseo could be dogfights that we'll be needing the #1 man for.

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

As long as the Laker's take care of Morrisville next weekend I would put Jones in against Brockport. Fredonia put up 7 goals against Brockport tonight and they really have trouble scoring. Worse case senerio is that you have to out score them. But I think that he (Jones) needs some game time just in case. Then come back with Beckwith for the geneseo game.

I'm thinking Jones may see some time in the Pathfinder but not before. Gosek has to get a look at Jones so he knows what he can do in a college game and so he has some experience before the playoffs. Remember that during the SUNYAC semi-finals when Morrisville was on a roll with a 3-0 lead Beckwith stepped in and basically shut them down.

totally agree, ya never know when ya gonna need him, wether its a injury or just to stop flow of game, and change goalies....

spoken like a true gameday operations person....??? if it was your school and it was a rule, would you advocate that people just do it anyway?

The point is it's a pointless rule. If the kids in the student section want to stand, let them. They aren't harming anyone elses game day experiences or sightlines. College sports are about the kids. It's their time.

I'm all for whatever Norwich students want to do on gameday so long as it doesn't involve embarrasing the school or harm anyone else's game day experience.

Is it your goal this year to follow me around the board and prattle on about that which you know nothing of?
