Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

I don't know, this primarily speaks of his fighting with Rochester (and their encouragement) Certainly the kid has more talent. I hope they just developing a different part of his game because of his size for now.

Well let's be honest. There aren't many kids that make the jump from Division III right to the AHL for just their scoring prowess.

The Panthers and Amerks are obviosuly intrigued by his side and probably want to develop his physical side first and then if the scoring comes...it comes.

Remember...just 8 months ago Selleck was playing with guys he was bigger, stronger, and faster than every night. Now he's playing with guys that were drafted, played major junior, and men etc.

I'd really like to see him turn into a Ryan Callahan type of player. He's got the scoring talent, and he hits hard (and often) which is a lot like Callahan.

Selleck is a power forward. Callahan will never be a power forward ;)

I did understand what you were trying to say though.

Unrelated to the Selleck Buzz.

I don't care if it's low-brow or not. I like seeing Plattsburgh Men's Hockey suffer a little. :P gotta keep a LITTLE bit of levity on these boards, jeeeeeeze :D

Looks like Geneseo will be the major threat this season to the Lakers. Most others seem up and down, very inconsistent. Tonight could be a tough game if Oswego gets off to a slow start again.

Yeah, like I said in the plattsburgh thread, I'm always happy to see plattsburgh lose in conference games. Out of conference games on the other hand, I like them to do well, if they do well then the entire sunyac looks better for it. I want them to win the primelink, and get Norwich off of their high horse. Then maybe oz will be #1 in votes again

I could care less if Oswego is #1 in USCHO polls, as long as they're #1 in the NCAA poll and at the end of the year.

If anyone has Time Warner Cable out of Rochester...the Amerks game is on....losing 5-1 end of 2....Selleck is sure to be having some fun in the third. Already has had a few big hits....

It's yesterday's game that is on. He fights at 7:33 of the third.

Morrisville was absolutely brimming with hostility between parties, as the Lakers visiting crowd fielded nearly a 1:1 margin against the homers. Add in the chants and taunts, and it made for a great hockey atmosphere. Well done to all those who came out for the game and watched our boys win it again.

It was more of the same on offense for Oswego in the game, it seemed. A few less passes and close quarters encounters with Relkoff, and maybe the game could have been blown open a lot more. To their credit though, if the guys didn't string up those two goals early on Morrisville, there would have been no telling how much harder Relkoff could have clamped down.

Beckwith must have gotten a bruise or something on the play he went down - it looked like a fairly routine save in the breadbasket region, but maybe he got smacked hard or tweaked something on the way down. Guess we'll find out more about it in the near future. For now, at least he's got a couple weeks to heal if it's anything serious.

This is a Thanksgiving delight of a situation right now. 9-0 is a fantastic start for the Lakers in a wild-looking SUNYAC - I can't wait to see how our rivals fair in non-con play. I don't know what the heck's up with Plattsburgh right now, but maybe they're on a path of salvaging after tonight. In the meantime, we've got a couple of weeks of observation ahead. The Lakers have returned to port for a while.

I don't mind not being #1 in the NCAA poll after all I believe they were #4 in 2007 :p

I'd take a Championship over being #1 in a poll.

Good game last night for the Lakers, a good road win against a pretty solid opponent. The early goals were key because Relkoff looked very shaky from that point on. He is very good side to side so the cross crease passes were not working, shots from the outside and one on one were and they kind of stopped taking them later in the game. One that really stood out was Brown all alone shorthanded and he tried to stick handle it right into the net, a shot would have beat him, he had room.

If not for all the power plays in the third, I don't think the score would have been very close, some of the penalties were warranted, others not so much. The penalty kill was great and it took a long 5 on 3 to finally beat them. The fore checking was great which is an area they have been lacking a little bit in this season. Beckwith was solid again and he is probably the most consistent goalie the Lakers have had in a while.

The two biggest points for me were the second period and the relative lack of unforced defensive zone turnovers. The second period was Oswego's best period in the game where it is usually their worst. The unforced defensive zone turnovers were painful to watch in some of the games this year and they did a good job at limiting them against a very opportunistic Mustangs team.

Another point I wanted to touch on is Ian Boots. That kid can flat out play and I don't think we have seen how good he really can be. He can stick handle in a phone booth but his decision making needs to get a little better. He seems to try to make the harder play when pushed into a corner to sometimes to the detriment of the team. He also has a bit of a habit of hanging on to it too long.

The most important thing is, they are now three points up on Buffalo State and Geneseo in the SUNYAC with Genny coming up in a few weeks. If they take care of business in the last two conference games of the semester, it definitely puts them in the drivers seat for another regular season title.

Did they drop all the way to #4 after the Fredonia loss?

I thought they were still #1 or #2.

Solid write-up. Good work.
