Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

The point is it's a pointless rule. If the kids in the student section want to stand, let them. They aren't harming anyone elses game day experiences or sightlines. College sports are about the kids. It's their time.

I'm all for whatever Norwich students want to do on gameday so long as it doesn't involve embarrasing the school or harm anyone else's game day experience.

Is it your goal this year to follow me around the board and prattle on about that which you know nothing of?

i'm not seeking you out...it just happens that wherever i go, there you are.

totally agree, ya never know when ya gonna need him, wether its a injury or just to stop flow of game, and change goalies....

Bakdraft you are correct for when you played, the team had a starting goalie as a back up with Pat Kelly.

I definitely agree that Jones needs some playing time and I would certainly like to see a third guy brought in that Eddie can trust to play if needed. The options are limited on both. If you look at the schedule Brockport looks like the only remaining game in the first semester that could be a game Jones could play. As for bringing in a new guy, I am not sure you can get a guy who has been sitting on the bench elsewhere to come here and sit on the bench, unless there is someone out there who was going to come here but chose another school only to have the promises go unfulfilled. Beckwith is playing with an extreme amount of confidence and it would take someone pretty special to wrestle playing time away from him.

The Utica game last night was a great example of what I said before about what makes Oswego a great team at the moment. Utica ground them hard along the boards all night and Oswego never seemed to get the bounces they needed but when the game was on the line in the third Beckwith made the big saves and Oswego got two goals (both by struggling players) to win. It was probably their worst game of the season but they came out of it with a win. I don't think they wore Utica down as much as Rodrigues and Whitelaw just took the game over in the third and made things happen.

One more comment on the Utica game, the ice was absolutely awful, probably the slowest ice I have personally seen a game on. A couple of times the puck didn't make it all the way down the ice on penalty clears because they lost momentum on the spongy ice.

Roll was good at rotating goalies like when he had Gajda and Lofberg. I know Beckwith is doing a good job, but he deserves a break. I'm sure Jones can do a decent job against The College at Brockport. (hate that freaking title) I want to see what he can do.

Re: Setting Sail - Oswego State Lakers 2010-2011 Season Thread

Jones will get his shot in due time. Oswego now has a healthy advantage in the SUNYAC. You don't just pull a goaltender that's playing well for you though.

I'd say Jones will get a shot against Brockport. Maybe another shot against Hobart or Hamilton later on.

But Gajda and Lofberg were both great goalies, Jones doesn't even look comfortable in the net in warmups which usually (with some exceptions) doesn't translate into good play in game situations. Beckwith is playing so well at the moment, taking him out just for the sake of giving Jones a shot might hurt more than it helps. If down the stretch Oswego is in control of the SUNYAC and in good shape for the NCAA's that is when you give Beckwith a break and if you feel he needs one to be ready for the playoff's.

Both suffered shoulder injuries. Anderson's came against Potsdam and he reaggravated it against Cortland. He should be back soon, maybe Saturday. Lags was injured against Plattsburgh and he was held out of the Cortland and Utica games as a precaution. He says he is fine and he should be back for the Morrisville game.

It's nice to have enough depth to give the guys more time to recover. Nice to have HVB back so we don't have to rush Anderson back. I'm sure Lags was bugging Gosek to play, but being able to plug in a guy like Brown helps Gosek say no to Lags.

Boy, it seems like the last few years, the Lakers have had a lot of shoulder injuries. I wonder if they are adressing this in the weight room?

Seems to me that we had three goalies every year who all could have started back then.

I remember that back in school we had Gadja, Lofberg and Sebastian Matte on the Lakers. All 3 could've been solid #1s at other programs.

There's only one game and there is usually a dead period until Thursday unless there was a Tuesday game. Also, I don't think the Iceplex has the capabilities to do live TV. I've only been there once and that was a decade ago. This game will be huge because MoVille can stand up to the big teams in the SUNYAC. Getting a lead will important for Oswego early on in the game IMHO.

One pressbox erected on one side of the rink, opposite the only side where fans can sit - and its only access is a ladder. Lets face it - not every rink is a marquee for TV feeds. WNYO does a nice job. But boy, does that Iceplex look small.

Should be an excellent game, and will look forward to being there.

Thanks... we will indeed have coverage starting at 6:30 on Saturday night.

We have to climb a ladder? That will be fun :)
