SCSU @ UND - November 13-14

Re: SCSU @ UND - November 13-14

no, no you can't. A point man dumps the puck in...you can't hit him 10 seconds later and say oh he had the puck. And if you're watching Marvin, he's keying up on him. He clearly had intent to hit Genoway and my guess is with intent to injure. It was a scumbag hit and a yearlong suspension should be in order.

C'mon, Sand Vag...that's a little extreme. If this was the NHL, he'd have gotten maybe 2 games depending on how Colin Campbell felt that day. You're starting to sound like a Gopher fan with all the crying you do about officials and teams being out to get you.

I just saw the hit on a blog, and it looked pretty deliberate. Marvin made no attempt to hit Genoway from the side--he lined him him and drove him facefirst into the glass. I wouldn't be surprised to see Marvin get a couple more games from the WCHA or SCSU.

I'm gonna say that tonight was the only game he'll be suspended for.

Yup, the league is who suspended him for tonight, I doubt they are going to go back and add a couple more.

Ok, time for an equal-opportunity hater of both teams to step into this mess.

The fact that he hit him square from behind was indeed dirty. You definitely have to watch it a few times to see his approach, if he tried to stop, or if he lined him up.

I reffed soccer for probably a decade (no, not the same but a bit similar in some respects). Normally when there's intent to injure, the person committing the offense will stand over the person and gloat or taunt the person he hit. In this case, he just skated off like it was just a hit and didn't seem to taunt him. Does that mean he didn't have the intent to injure? No. But you can't know that for sure unless you're in his head.

It will definitely be interesting to see what happens from the WCHA standpoint since this is the second incident I can think of this year where contact to the head was made and a player was injured (Leddy for the gophers is the other that comes to mind).

I definitely hope Genoway's ok and hope he's back on the ice soon. :(

I never let facts get in the way of my posts. Heck, running over facts is like hitting old ladies while driving. BONUS POINTS!!!

I never understood that. Old ladies are easy. Run over an athlete. Quicker, more agile.....those are bonus points. Joggers for example. :p

Or those ****ing Critical Mass dbags. I swear, what I wouldn't give to see someone just plow through a group of them with an F250...

Re: SCSU @ UND - November 13-14

Question for you. Have you ever played hockey? I would think if you have you would see how these things happen. I agree players need to play more in control and when they don't they have to pay the price by sitting out. However, in the heat of the battle and when you go to hit a guy at full speed these things happen sometime and your arms get up to high. I guarantee not every time these type of hits happen the guy is trying to hurt the other guy. Marvin has never been a dirty player in the past, so I think he should get he benefit of the doubt. Like I said before it doesn't make what he did right, but there is a difference between playing hard and a little careless and trying to hurt someone.
Yes, I have, as others have mentioned. His back was to the ice. From the replay it looks like his forearm/elbow hit Genoway in the back of the head. He coasted for a good 15 feet before he hit him. He lined him up for a high hit, he stood up to do it. Hits like this never "just happen" because of the speed of the game. This didn't happen at full speed. Marvin wanted to blow him up and he lined him up high and from behind. He had ample time to realize what he was going to do. He wasn't even looking at the puck.

I'm ok with the one extra game. I'd prefer two, but a year is way too much.

Nothing like a good "UND whining about the Refs again" fest to make everyone else smile. Has UND ever lost a single game when it wasn't the refs fault? I didn't think so.
When you answer your own rhetorical question like that, you ruin the fun for everyone else. Especially Dirty...:p
