Here's the dope on tonight.

Huskies can no longer catch Wisconsin for 2nd place. They can only be tied by UND and UMD. UMD can't win any potential tiebreakers with SCSU or UND, UND wins any potential tiebreaker with SCSU.

If SCSU wins, nothing else matters. They take 3rd place and face UAA next week.

If SCSU ties, they take 3rd place and face Mankato next week unless UAA beats or ties UMD, in which case they would face the Seawolves.

If SCSU loses, it depends on what UND does.

a) If UND loses or ties (with, uh, Michigan Tech), SCSU takes 3rd place and faces Mankato next week unless UAA beats UMD, in which case they would face the Seawolves.

b) If UND wins, SCSU finishes in 4th place and faces Minnesota next week.

Regardless of anything, they will be at home next week.

after watching Mankato on tv last weekend play tough against Denver and last nights game, it would be nice to avoid them in the playoffs. their broadcast crew said something about 10 1 goal losses? they could easily be in 5th or 6 place if they win some of them. I'd rather see UAA and their 0 for the century record at the NHC next weekend.

Well, you certainly hope the boys rebound tonite. However, the loss of Raboin and Marvin was blatantly apparent last night. MSU has absolutely nothing to lose and can just go out and play hard and they will.

On the other hand, the Huskies need to figure out their best line combos, penalty kill, goaltender etc etc. It's almost like the first month of the season . The lack of focus and turnovers killed them in period 1. The penalties showed a lack of focus. Not a comforting thought. However, they rebounded and won the final two periods so there is something to grasp onto.

The thing that concerns me is the number of "stinkers" they've put up lately in terms of goals allowed. If they don't right the ship defensively, it'll be lights out early for the 2009-10 season.

It's senior night but with senior Raboin out it really puts them behind the eight-ball. It'll also put Ammerman and Peckskamp in the lineup (I assume). But, I have no reason to believe they won't put forth a good effort and hopefully give the rest of the team some urgency to win one for the seniors.

They're done! Didn't play with any passion or heart, played sacred and stupid in the first. 21-5 in shots? Are you kidding me? They have no business going any farther than getting swept next week-end and a first round loss in the NCAA's. Pat Michletti on Beyond the Pond show this morning was gushing about the Huskies, said he was there, I think he had the two teams mixed up.

I didn't see or listen to the game so I have no idea how they played. The bottom line is if they can't beat the 9th place team one out of two games then they don't deserve to finish third. I know Marvin and Raboin are out, but this team isn't that good if they can't beat Mankato tonight without them....

they outplayed Mankato in the 2nd and 3rd, but the 4 goal first period disaster was too much too recover from. At least they came back and tried to make it a game. 2 really good scoring chances in the 3rd that were taken away by good goaltending. Tonight should be a good game, glad I bought a ticket

For some reason, I feel like we have the upperclassmen this season that can pull the team together and win when they REALLY need to. Their lack of focus from week to week is disappointing and concerning, but something about this team makes me think they'll win tonight and make a postseason run. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if they swoon away the season now either.

I first started attending Husky games the year the NHC opened and I was seven years old, so I kind of remember Esau, Hedican, and Knipscheer (sp), but can't really analyze how good they were. The best defenseman I remember is Wescott. He could honestly skate backwards faster than most players could skate forward. I think Pudlick was a very good college hockey player as well, but should never have left after only two years.

I agree completely. And I think tonight will be the key to it all. if we come out and play well AND win at home we should get a big boost of confidence heading into next weekend. Add that confidence with the return of Raboin and Marvin (after 1 more game) and I can see a good run through the Final Five and hopefully into the NCAA's. But if we drop another ****bomb period like the 1st at home, things won't look as optimistic.

Just frustrated RC, just frustrated. I was hoping they would come out and play with a chip on their shoulder. I'll head to Walgreens and find something to help growa sac before tonight.

Reality is they deserve third if they lose tonite and UND and UMD lose. Because, they've earned it throughout the year. They have not been swept in a conferenvce series all year. That's why you have points and tiebreakers. I know what you're trying to say but it's not that simple. MSU probably should have taken 1 and maybe 2 from DU last weekend. They are loaded with seniors and have lost a bunch of 1 goal games. They are not a great team but can compete with anyone.

Having Marvin and Raboin out IS a big factor period. You can't ignore it. They are not as good of a team with them out. It takes too much out of the defensive scheme and special teams.

I have absolutely no doubt we severely missed Raboin and Marvin on the PK more than anything. Our PK just crumbled and wouldn't go out and challenge at all, thats why it was so easy for the Purple Cows to score. The first goal was just a bad play by Johnson that allowed a breakaway, but our PK has to improve, that is absolutely what killed us last night.

Motzko has known for close to 2 weeks that he was going to be without Marvin for at least this weekend, and potentailly well into the WCHA playoff's, and with a high ankle sprain as a diagnosis, he would be an idiot (have to watch myself here) to not know that Raboin's injury would be a solid 2 weeker. So, if they weren't spending 75% of their time in practice putting together a PK unit that would at least compete...which they did not do last night, then he isn't acknowledging what special teams importance has become in the WCHA. I put the terrible special teams play directly on Motzko's shoulders last night, and him saying in the paper how well they did in the 2nd and 3rd, is an insult to those of us who recognize hockey as a 3 period game. If he can't find 4 gamers on that team for a PK, even if arguably his top 2 PK'ers are out, to come out and at least create some obstacles to a mediocre PP, then he's lost my respect.

I agree with all your points. However, We both know UND will not lose to Tech tonight and they are good enough to win at home on senior night without those guys.

I got news for you; Mankato owned the first, SCSU owned the second, but the third was actually pretty even. I'd give an edge to SCSU, but it was close enough where that could've just been me being a biased fan. I could see a MSU-M fan saying they felt they had a slight edge, so its fair to say it was a pretty even period.

Actually, since they lost in Anchorage tonight, Duluth can't catch us. That game could end up affecting who we play next week, but as far as which seed we get, the only games that affect that are ours and North Dakota's.

although i thought we had the better scoring chances in the 3rd, but mankato fans probably thought the same.
