SCSU Season Thread 2-Do We Hate Everybody as Much as They Hate Us?

Re: SCSU Season Thread 2-Do We Hate Everybody as Much as They Hate Us?

Always has been. I pointed that out earlier. Anyone who thinks otherwise lives in La La Land.

so if were going to use that as the standard we have to have a standard set for dealing with concussions. Everyone a player gets makes them more prone to them, so if we are going to base discipline off of it, there would have to be standards set to ensure a player has healed from the affects before the return to the ice. Otherwise we would have no idea if the hit that gave them the most recent concussion is really to blame for the effects.

I know I played through concussions in high school, which knowing what I know now, is something I regret. But if you get a concussion in the semi-finals of the state tourney, are you going to sit out the state final game??

Re: SCSU Season Thread 2-Do We Hate Everybody as Much as They Hate Us?

If you want to believe Marvin licked his chops and teed off on Geoffrion's head intentionally, I'm not going to stop you. I'll believe what I saw in the video and not what you wanted to see.
To quote you...
Please. I would like you to go back and find something that I said along the lines...Please do this so you can prove that you're right about what I believe.
As I said in a post not too long ago, I have no idea what Marvin's intent was when he hit Geoffrion and Genoway. But I can see what he did and I know the outcome.
Please. I would like you to go back and find something that I said along the lines of "it wasn't called so therefore there can't be a suspension."
The problem is, I don't know what you think. At times you seem to be arguing that what Marvin did wasn't a penalty. At other times, you seem to be arguing the the contact to the head rule and the NCAA's zero tolerance policy don't apply because they're imperfectly enforced. You also appear to believe that the WCHA's punishment didn't fit the crime and that it had no authority to do what it did in suspending Marvin.

Maybe you should just explain what is that should or shouldn't have happened and then we can go from there.

Whether we need a standard for that or not is irrelevant to this discussion. If Blake hadn't suffered a concussion and had just a broken jaw for example the same thing would have happened.

I believe the entire point of having a rule against contact to the head and a zero tolerance policy against it is to deter players from engaging in conduct that's likely to cause concussions. Isn't that the best approach?

The problem is, I don't know what you think.

Exactly. That hasn't stopped you from proclaiming what I think.

You, however, seem to believe that because not every contact to the head penalty is called and because not every player is suspended for contact to the head, the rule and the policy no longer apply.

I didn't say it wasn't a penalty. I said it wasn't his fault Geoffrion lowered his head into where the hit was coming from.

No, I'm arguing that claiming a zero tolerance policy while overlooking other instances is hypocritical.

You also appear to believe that the WCHA's punishment didn't fit the crime and that it had no authority to do what it did in suspending Marvin.

See, there you go again telling me what I think. The former is a subjective matter. The latter is blatantly false, as I've repeatedly said. You ARE thick.

There's no one claiming McLeod doesn't have the authority to banninate whoever he wants to banninate.

Gee, that's awfully inconvenient for your argument. Sorry 'bout that.

Maybe you should just explain what is that should or shouldn't have happened and then we can go from there.

I see no reason to repeat myself.

So, anyone care to tell me how Karnac knows these other instances were overlooked?

It is relevant because if we are going to base discipline on whether or not a player get injured the league should insure a player is not stepping on the ice pre-disposed to a concussion because of they are still feeling the affects of one, or has had multiple concussions in the past. A hit that gives a player a concussion can be a lot different then one that breaks a players jaw.

Wait... concussions can only happen in a game, from a hit to the head?!?!?!  I was under the assumption they could happen in practice, and from a player hitting the boards wrong or catching an edge and hitting their head on the ice, with no contact with anyone else.

Look at that! You learned something today. I hope you're thankful.

Re: SCSU Season Thread 2-Do We Hate Everybody as Much as They Hate Us?

How much hockey do you watch? Happens all the time.

Quite a bit. And I assume that at least one of the officials should be watching that little black, round hard piece of equipment called the PUCK since it's a pretty important piece of the game we call hockey. Geoffrion had it at center ice, was staring at it, and got hit. Hard to believe an official didn't see the play.

No one said we're basing it off of whether or not a player gets injured. What were saying is the injury to the player opened the door. Once the door was opened the prior behavior became a factor.

By the way, I wanted to congratulate you on refraining from discussing violent acts being inflicted upon the loved ones of SCSU posters. Here's hoping it continues.

Re: SCSU Season Thread 2-Do We Hate Everybody as Much as They Hate Us?

None of the contact to the head penalties I've witnessed that received minor penalties were anything like Marvin's hits on Genoway on Goeffrion. Nobody was knocked out of the game because of them. Nobody (to my knowledge) received a concussion. I would hope that officials properly use the discretion they've been given to assess a minor when it's deserved and a major when it's deserved.
So in other words, the effect is what's important here.

These posts seem to say that.

I felt like being an extreme jerk at the time. I rarely feel the need to do that.

Admit it... its because you realized UNDUI's weren't gonna make the playoffs. :D

There's a playoff in that stupid league? I gave up completely after my UND players scored 9 of 10 goals against UMD and I was only starting Gregoire.

Yeah, and unless I make an AMAZING comeback this weekend its gonna be Blind Ref vs. the Midgettes

Re: SCSU Season Thread 2-Do We Hate Everybody as Much as They Hate Us?

It didn't??

According to the WCHA review Knight didn't contact the head, as they ruled it as a clean hit.
And Connolly seemed to be just fine this past weekend against UMN. ;)
Although he did still have a bit of a black eye from that fight he got into with JConn over who is the better Connolly.
