It's called common courtesy. You might want to try it sometime.

Winona State (2-0) at St. Cloud State (1-1)

Last Meeting: 42-27 St. Cloud in 1981

It is going to be an emotional night in St. Cloud, as the Huskies will have what could be their home opener, just days ahead of a critical vote by NSIC administrators about a requested exemption to allow the university to remain in the NSIC if it decides to cut football. It is by no accident that the St. Cloud State football program has invited all football alumni to the home opener against Winona on Saturday night.

Although it has been nearly 30-years since the two teams last played, they do have some history. St. Cloud State has won 13-straight in the series.

Winona State obliterated Minnesota State-Moorhead last week 58-3. The Warriors pretty much controlled the entire game against the anemic Dragon offense, not allowing a third down conversion on the day, and holding them to just one rushing yard.

Additionally, they ran for 259-yards and had a huge day on special teams. All in all, it was pretty much what you would expect a 58-3 win to be.

The Huskies though have been impressive through two games this season. Freshman quarterback Phillip Klaphake continued his solid play, he threw for 301-yards last week against Concordia, and in doing so became the first St. Cloud quarterback to throw for 300-yards in back-to-back games since Keith Heckendorf did that back in 2003. Did I mention that it is the first two starts of Klaphake?s career?

I am really excited to see how the Winona Defense and St. Cloud offense match up. While Winona did a great job shutting down Minnesota State-Moorhead last week, the Huskies are a different animal offensively. They put up 518-yards against Concordia last week, 217 of them were rushing yards.

The Huskies even answered back from a little adversity last week in their 35-10 win over Concordia St. Paul. After Concordia scored 10-straight to cut the Husky lead to 4, (14-10) with 2:58 to play in the first half, St. Cloud State quickly ripped any hope away, by scoring two touchdowns in the closing moments of the first half, then a third in the first four minutes of the third quarter.

Winona has won in tougher places this year, winning at Carson-Newman, but I actually think St. Cloud State will ride the wave of emotion to the win on Saturday night.

Extra Point: Winona State last beat St. Cloud in 1968, 21-13.

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

I think I was being supportive when I wished the goofer hockey team as much success as their football team. Gopher nation-lame

For once I agreed with Deland with his column yesterday when he said that since SCSU is dropping football, the goofers should drop down into the NSIC and sell TCF bank stadium to Ziggy. The goofers could use the Huskie's stadium seeing as SCSU wont be needing it anymore. 15 more days till the drop of the puck!:)

Don't bet on that just yet. Everything I've heard is it doesn't sound like the NSIC is going to let St. Cloud have that waiver to drop football and still stay in the NSIC.

It's awesome how you're the only person in here who cares about SCSU football.

You know, if you're not taking Flak, then you're not over the target. :p

SCSU athletics has had some serious budget issues, and yes, it effects hockey as well, given that Hockey fans most of the athletic department at St. Cloud. With today's news, and the likely barbarians gate ring at the gates to take the Big 2 out of the WCHA, they're going to need to have all hands on deck to figure out what they're going to do, and who they're going to do it will.

And I don't believe the NSIC will even grant you a waiver to stay in the conference without football. Given you're a D1 hockey program, you're more of a name school in the conference. I would bet that more people that go to Winona would know about St. Cloud than what they would of say, Southwest Minnesota or Minnesota-Crookston. If SCSU still drops football, you wanna tell me how that doesn't end up affecting hockey when the rest of the department is looking around for a whole new league to play in?

You're mistaking someone laughing at you for flak?

Flak is when someone vehemently disagrees with you. I'm not disagreeing with you, I couldn't be more indifferent.

If you're indifferent towards SCSU football, then why are you bothering to respond to the posts about it? :p

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

Boy I hope you're not being serious.

As someone who's been suspended repeatedly for real and imagined violations of board protocol, of course I'm serious. If I'd have posted that sans warning I'd have been banned.

That is unless they are also going to drop some other programs and move the other programs who are left up to D1. not saying that will happen, but from what I understand it is an option and something they are considering......

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

I care about SCSU football as well. I care about UMD more at the D2 level these days, but I do still follow the Huskies. The Times said that the stadium was not only "sold out" (That's always exaggerated), but "packed." I wonder if that was actually true?

Yeah, but you do realize that you need to have 16 athletic programs just to be a full fledged D1 program?

You really don't add much to this conversation. All I see is someone trying to prove they know something.

EDIT: Someone should really alert Division I DePaul that their 13 athletic programs doesn't meet bigmrg74's stringent standards.
