Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread
My point, exactly!! Even though I dispise the "Johnny football tradition" with their "golly-gee, aw shucks, we only recruit kids in a 60 mile readius, and we have special Johnny rules," coach, I have gone to more of their games than SCSU's. Last year, 8,000 vs. Bethel and 14,000 vs. St. Thomas.
Hey Morris want more money in the atheltic program - go DI numb-nutz! And while I'm at it, that new stadium that was built-stands on only one side, a big joke!
Exactly. I grew up in Brookings, SD and attended a year of college at South Dakota State before transferring to SCSU. My parents are still there and huge Jackrabbit fans. SCSU should have followed the other programs who went D-1. South Dakota State - a good 2-3 years before committing to D-1, did study after study to assess the feasability, while at the same time started building what is now an incredible booster club. In 2008 they averaged nearly 10,000 fans per game in a city of about 16,000 - not counting the students. A move to D-1 attracts better athletes, faster athletes, athletes who get more exposure, and MORE FANS at the games. The NSIC doesn't even come close to what the NCC was, much less D-1.
SCSU, by there own lack of vision and competence, got left behind. I attended a total of two football games when I attended SCSU and didn't even know where Selke Field was located until my second year. Although I am not a huge college football follower, I'm embarassed for SCSU that they are now in this position. Morris Kurtz needs to be fired.
