SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

Exactly. I grew up in Brookings, SD and attended a year of college at South Dakota State before transferring to SCSU. My parents are still there and huge Jackrabbit fans. SCSU should have followed the other programs who went D-1. South Dakota State - a good 2-3 years before committing to D-1, did study after study to assess the feasability, while at the same time started building what is now an incredible booster club. In 2008 they averaged nearly 10,000 fans per game in a city of about 16,000 - not counting the students. A move to D-1 attracts better athletes, faster athletes, athletes who get more exposure, and MORE FANS at the games. The NSIC doesn't even come close to what the NCC was, much less D-1.

SCSU, by there own lack of vision and competence, got left behind. I attended a total of two football games when I attended SCSU and didn't even know where Selke Field was located until my second year. Although I am not a huge college football follower, I'm embarassed for SCSU that they are now in this position. Morris Kurtz needs to be fired.

My point, exactly!! Even though I dispise the "Johnny football tradition" with their "golly-gee, aw shucks, we only recruit kids in a 60 mile readius, and we have special Johnny rules," coach, I have gone to more of their games than SCSU's. Last year, 8,000 vs. Bethel and 14,000 vs. St. Thomas.
Hey Morris want more money in the atheltic program - go DI numb-nutz! And while I'm at it, that new stadium that was built-stands on only one side, a big joke!

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

The new stadium's size is what it is because if capacity was exactly one larger, they would have had to spend the money on an environmental impact study. I also a agree with the people that are saying that it was much easier for all of the Dakota schools to move to D1 because they are flagship schools in their states and have the population (such as it is) and, more importantly, the government supporting them. SCSU would not receive such support. While I think it would be cool to be D1, I think it would be an even bigger disaster than the athletic department is now.

Just FYI, SCSU's official avg attendance last year was 4,112. That was in a team-by-team list, and I could only find the top 30 ranked. #30 was Mo. Southern St. at 4,621. I imagine that puts us at least in the top 50, if not the top 40 and there are 151 D2 football schools.

Environmental impact study? What to see if that might endanger the grub worm! Total, total retardedness plus no VISION! 5 will get me 10, the A.D. comes out and says "we're going to look at going DI in all sports" the student body, community, and alumni would go for it!

I agree with all of you about NoDak. The whole state supports UND. They really don't care about NDSU as much. I was in western NoDak a few years back and even out there they are die hard fans as you can get. The downside is that I am going back to the western part of North Dakota in September.

Now for a rant about SCSU...
Just admit that you are a commuter school! Is it really that hard for you to accept the fact that a majority of your faculty and students live an hour+ away? Can you not adapt? Football is not the center of SCSU athletics. Kurtz can go * himself with a spiked dildo (thank you Brenthoven for that expression). I loved my experience at SCSU, but the politics are just beyond ridiculous. /rant

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

Football cost the school far more than just it's losses becasue of title 9. If you get rid of Football, you can also get rid of other worthless sports. If for some reason people really do care and give a ton of dough to save the program I will be more than happy for them. I just highly doubt that will happen.

Wow. I heard that oinking loud and clear. Women's sports = worthless.

Going to have to agree on your athletic director. In my limited interaction with him, I came off as the more mature person. And that never happens.

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

If I'm Motzko I make Eddy get up in that locker room and tell his teammates why he won't be joining them for at least part of this year. Maybe a little public humiliation in front of the guys he's letting down will give him a little motivation as it seems hockey itself wasn't enough.

Rabib and I were talking about this when you two were driving home tonight. How stupid can you be to not even get a 2.0 GPA? He and I are not that smart...but we were still over 3.0 in our entire time at SCSU! This kid is taking generals and can't even get it done!

Yeah, Tommyboy is really smart here. Rides women's sports as useless, and then turns around and wants to move SCSU up to D1-AA. Hello McFly!! NCAA rules state that at the D1-AA level, you must have 14 sports, either seven men/seven women, or 8 women/6 men's sports.

Can't have one without the other Tommyboy.

Check your sarcasm meter, champ.

Make him clean the lockerroom, shovel the snow away from in front of the benches at the 10 minute mark, and set the nets between periods.

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

I don't think MnSCU because of the University of Minnesota, will allow SCSU to go DI subchampionship or whatever I-AA is called now...
What does the U of M have to do with MnSCU? They're completely unrelated. The U of M system (Twin Cities, Duluth, Morris) are on a separate system from MnSCU entirely.

Yeah, which I think is a waste of money.

Anyways, I think the U of M will somehow make it so that MnSCU won't have DI athletics.

I heard awhile back that all scholarships in MnSCU schools are harder to fund. Something about the money can't come from university funds or fees.

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

kind of explains why they brought in Mitch MacMillian(there Red Cloud and brianvf are you happy?)

"That Mitch kid?"

"That Mitch kid" will probably be SCSU's leading freshman scorer this year. :)

it was early morning, and I didn't have the time to look it up, so sue me ok. ;)

Get im a cowboy hat and you could call him Mitchy the Kid! :D
